Should CA be tweaked down?
I know that I have raised issues with counter attack before, and maybe these ratings are just a fluke. This game ended in a 1-1 draw. I dont think that walleyeusa used his MOTS or PIC'd. I would imagine he plans to throw his qualification match again, since it is a very tough division, and he did the same thing last year. But that isnt the point here. How could an attack this weak beat out such a great defense. Or is it just that defense is way under-rated? For the record, his goalie puts up 7 stars, and his back line puts up 12 stars.

whatever the case may be, I am thinking I will definately buy a great striker or 2, rather then beef my defense anymore.

Well the counter attack didn't beat out his defense. A counter attack only produces an attack for the offense to finish off. Therefore this would be another one of those examples where a great defense gets scored on by a much inferior offense.

yeah, but even with a 7 star goalie he couldnt stop the CA, that just doesnt seem right to me. Looking at some of the othermatches, I think he Did PIC, and it cost him the win.

Defense does not = the ratings. They should rename solid defense as poor, excellent as iweak, and so on.
Defensive ratings look good, but they mean very little, at least in my experience. |

Once upon a time they actually tweaked down the attacks ratings. The devs say these are the actual ratings, but I think things made more sense when the attacks looked like they were better.

personally, I think they should redo the whole defense alignment.
they should add another rating called Goaltending and have only the keeper contribute to that. defense should then be: goaltending - keeper right defense - right wing back - right central defender - right winger - right inner midfielder left defense - left wing back - left central defender - left winger - left inner midfielder central defense: - any/all central defenders - left/right wingbacks - any/all inner midfielders your keeper shouldn't effect your defense in any way. you can field 3 disastrous defenders with a brilliant keeper and get good defense ratings the way it is now. when someone burns your defenders and has his shot blocked by the keeper, your defense didn't prevent the goal, your keeper did due to his goaltending skills, not his defending skills. if you've got: keeper: Tim Howard right wing back: Grandma central defender: Grandpa left wing back: George Bush your defense is going to be lit up all day long. If Howard has a clean sheet, you didn't allow 0 goals because your defense was good, you got the shutout thanks to an extremely talented keeper.

That's what I'm hoping for, seeing as how I just purchased a world class Keeper to go along with my solid defenders. |

at the very least, move the keepers contribution to defense right above inner midfielders in the calculations:
right D: - r wb - r cd - r w - k - r im even right D: - r wb - r cd - k - r w - r im would be better than how it is now. they lowered attacks and say now it shows what the attacks really are, they need to do the same with defense cause right now, a brilliant defense is actually about an excellent.

I'm not saying that ratings don't need tweaking in some way, but I think you are underrating the importance of the goaltender to overall defensive performance. He's easily the most important player on defense and I'm glad the ratings reflect that. I do agree that ratings need to be split out more specifically. But if you do that, you also have to make the same adjustment to the offensive side of things.
Edit: Specifically why I disagree - GK shouldn't be split out from defense because they are one and the same. The GK is generally expected to organize and command the defense, so it makes sense that they are together. At least given the level of detail the game goes to right now.
