FBCB Question: Text Formatting problem on my laptop
I've always relied on my FOF for my work time gaming. However, I'm currently in the mood to play FBCB and am trying to do so on my laptop at work. My laptop is an inspirion 8500 with a 15.3" screen and a default resolution of 1920X1200. No matter what setting I change the resolution to in the game, the text in various windows doesn't line up and in some spots white text is on a light background and is almost unreadable. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Right now, University of Southern California as my alma mater is showing up over 2 lines instead of the usual 1 and is cut off partially.

Is your windows text size set to something other than small fonts? This is common when running a higher resolution. If so let me know what it is and I should be able to get you a set of background image files that will matchup right. That should correct part of the problem where the text shows up on the white background. I'll have to think about the rest of the problem but I'm pretty sure it is all related to the text size setting.

Cool, thanks for the quick reply. I actually shut down my laptop for the day, but I'll be posting here tomorrow with a follow-up to your reply. Thanks again for the quick response.
BTW today 72% of my patients didn't show or call! (which left me with about 5 hours of downtime to play) That is a record for my office. The only good news is I still get paid half for a no-show, no-call. However, a few of them I'm worried about. |

Looking at the display panel (I think this is the right place to look) it states my text size is normal. This is the smallest of the 3 choices with the other 2 choices being large and extra large. Should I be looking somewhere else?

That should be it. What is the listed dpi for your normal setting?

I didn't see a listed dpi for my normal setting. How do I see that?

On my computer there is on option to use a custom size. If you go to that option it tells you the dpi. Also, it may be helpful if you could send me a screen shot of what is happening to make sure it is what I think is happening.

Ahh, I think I found out how to see the font size. I will check tomorrow and send you that information and also a screen shot if you want. Thanks.

Sorry, it took me a few days longer to respond. I currently have 10dpi Tahoma Text as my current default. What email address should I use for the screenshot? Also, is the procedure for capturing a screenshot the same as FOF2004?

You can send the screen to [email protected]. It should work just like it would for FOF.

I sent you an email with a possible resolution. Let me know if you didn't get it for some reason.

I got the email, but my computer has been acting odd (IE not opening, despite no viruses on the computer.) Several work sites I use REQUIRE me to use IE and won't let me use Mozilla. I've been trying to figure out that problem, which I just figured out (adware was somehow messing up IE) Now that I have that important problem fixed, I'm about to try the solution you sent me. Thanks for such a quick reply by the way. I'll let you know how it goes later tonight.

Dola -
The file you sent me fixed all of the laptop problems for this game except for my "University of Southern California" problem which I fixed by abbreviating it "Southern California" as you do in the game. Thanks again for excellent customer support. |
