FOFC Interactive Boxing League

Here is a new chance for you to be the Champ.

For the better part of a year I ran a boxing dynasty:

Boxing Anyone
FOFC Boxing Beings
Boxing - Round 2
Boxing - Round 3

I also used the same Boxing Engine (WeBL) to perform a boxing tournament (FOFC Boxing Tournament). The reactions to the boxing tournament were much more positive and interactive than the regular dynasty. During the Thanksgiving and Chrismas Holiday the Dynasty was put on hold with the promise to start it up again. However, through much tought and discussion with JAG, who helped me immensely with the regular dynasty and won the tournament, we've decided - rather than restarting the dynasty and running fights for the 4 to 5 people who were participating, we would investigate the level of interest in starting a private league on the WeBL site. This way all fights would be between FOFC members - rather than unknown gyms (of diverse ability levels). Titles would be awarded, rankings could be posted, and I'm guessing the interest level would go up.

There are some ground rules we would have to establish. Like everyone fights in the heavyweight division (at least to start),.each participant creates X number of fighters, etc. JAG and I would create some drones to round out the competition, but in order for a private league to work, we would need a significant number of Board Members to participate.

If you are interested, and you're wondering what you would have to do:

We aren't completely sure yet - but we have a pretty good idea

Some Things for Consideration include: (you can get more information on how some of these things are done, by checking the Tournament link provided above)

Create your fighter(s)
- This is simply a matter of specifying height, body type (thin, heavy, etc), and placing X number of points in the different skills (we can help you here - if you tell us what type of fighter you want we can tell you were to put points)

Building Fight Plans - Here we have some versatility. There are existing templates that can be used, and JAG and I could create other templates to choose from. OR you could design your own with the easy fight creator or used advanced code and create your own. We would need to decided (all I'll let participants voice their opinion here) if we want to limit the abilty to create from scratch so the playing field is a little more even.

Select Training Style - prior to each fight, you'll need to report which skill you'll be training.

It sounds more difficult than it actually is. Anyone who participated in the tournament run, will have a good idea of what is required. Only this time your participation won't be over after 1 loss. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE PART OF THE FOFC INTERACTIVE BOXING LEAGUE PLEASE SIGN UP - creating this private league will take some work and we want to guage the level of interest before putting for the effort required to make the league a reality.

JAG has done most of the investigation into the private league, so he may be able to offer more details on the subject

Breeze,

I have loved my time as a fighter for your gym, so I am definitely interested in being a part of this league!

If you loved the old one, I think, assuming we can drum up enough interest, you'll REALLY LOVE this one. It merges the best parts of the original dynasty and the tournament. Fighting against other board members will facilitate trash talking, rivalries, and more. Hopefully, enough people will sign up.

Just some more points for those who aren't familiar with the WeBL boxing simulator. Each fighter has certain statistics including strength, agility, hand speed, KO ability, chin, conditioning, height, and weight (though 'weight' is really based on height, strength, and agility). When you win a bout, you will gain a point based on what you train. We can provide a lot of help in how to make a fighter that can do what you want it to do and a detailed breakdown on all the stats. Fight plans are the most complicated part of having a fighter, and like Breeze said, we'll probably try to keep things simple at first, and provide more information on how to make detailed fight plans as everyone gets more experience.

As far as the private league is concerned, basically every individual would have their own gym where they can create a fighter or fighters, select what stat you want your fighter(s) to train, and make fight plans for your boxers. All the fighters will be ranked within their weight class and those who reach the top of the division will eventually fight for a title belt. There will probably be a lot of chances for title bouts for fighters as the divisions will be fairly small compared with WeBL's usual sized leagues. I imagine it'll be a lot more entertaining to battle people in FOFC than faceless strangers though.

Hm... I was a huge fan of the original and came in second in the tourney. Yeah, I'm in

Is there any way to go against other fighters other than FOFCers and try to win some of those titles? I'm just worried we won't have enough interest. I would think we would need 20 and considering how only about ~8 people kept interest throughout the entire tourney, well...

Well, the original thought was there'd be more interest in facing fellow FOFC members, especially if you already have a rivalry with them or just want to see their reaction when you beat the crap out of their fighter. The only other way to face other fighters in the private league would be to invite them, and it's highly uncertain anyone would join. We could set up a bunch of FOFCers and set them loose on the public region which would allow people to fight other managers, but then anyone could do that on their own too.

There actually wouldn't need to be a huge number of participants to run the league. If it seemed like there were too few fighters, there's a couple of options: people could create a couple of extra (you're allowed to have 5 in one weight class) or Breeze and I could fill the ranks with some random fighters.

We're pretty open to suggestions though, so if you had something else in mind that I didn't mention, let us know SI. I know you're itching for 'Hurricane II' to get up and running.

I'm familiar with WEBL and would be glad to pound on some of you. Maybe I can recreate Nathan "Steel Curtain" Jones who dominated the OOTP league that once existed.

SI,

If we don't get enough interest in this, I'm sure we can bring Hurricane back to get the regional title.

Seems this was done in the past. Appearently a few guys that frequent the General Discussion board have interest in this. We're probably around 10 participants - that's good, but we'll need quite a few more.

Sign up - so we can get this thing rolling.

I could go with a weather theme: Tornado, Lightning, Thunder, Typhoon, Monsoon. Pity the boxer who comes across Ralph "Partly Cloudy With a 10% Chance of Afternoon Showers" Smith.

It doesn't appear the interest is high enough at this point to run this boxing league dynasty.

I think we've got around 10 people interested. I'm a little surprised it wasn't closer to 16. We had 14 sign up for the boxing tournament we ran last year. I figured everyone that signed up for that would sign up for this. Maybe we'll run another tourney to generate some interest first.

And I was looking forward to having my gym pounded in by Breeze and JAG.

i had an idea i have the title bout boxing game although i am not terribly familar with it maybe we could get a system to create the fighters and then maybe have "live" fights in a chat room once a week? we could go with all time great fighters (although if you don't pick a heavyweight you put yourself at a severe disadvantage) or we could all pick fighters of a certain overall ability score(1 2 3 4 etc) just babbling maybe its something i could do early sat morning and post "the fight" on the board just seeing if there is any interest in trying to go in this direction (if its ok with breeze) i would hate to see the possible rivalries die.
