Note to self:
When asking for a driver's license manual, don't hold your car keys where the person you are asking can see them.

Ardent is a weird man. I heard that every night he eats his car keys so he doesn't lose them.

I think I may have gotten this one in one try. Sounds like AE went to the D'License Bureau to get a manual for an upcoming driver's test to get a new license ('cause his other one had lapsed). While doing so, he left his keys in plain sight, making it obvious that he drove himself there. Which did not sit well with the DMV/whatever person, since they kinda figured out he was driving without a license. |

I lost my license when my wallet was stolen. It had expired, but I was living off the fact that I had a valid military ID. Now that the "expired" license was missing, I have to get a new license.
I drove to the DMV or whatever they call it here, and asked the lady at the info desk for a driver's license manual. She looked at my left hand. I had my keys in my hand. Oops. Good enough explanation? ![]()

I really appreciate the Illinois state trooper that pulled me over and let me know I shouldn't be driving with the license. He was really helpful when he issued me a warning for broken headlight.

So the rule is that you can't possess car keys without a license? Maybe it's because I live in a big city, but couldn't you own a car, yet still walk or take the bus places? I don't get it. Did she keep the keys, then? Or give you a ticket? I guess I don't see any 'proof' that you were actually driving. If you had a parking sticker, on the other hand...

lol, I'm up here in Waukegan, Passacaglia. She didn't keep the keys. She just looked at my hand when I asked. She gave me the manual, no questions asked. Just a bit funny and well, embarrassing.

Me neither. Didn't have to do that to pass the Colorado drivers test...

I knew I could fail parallel parking on the Oklahoma exam and still pass, which I did.

What is wrong with you guys? What kind of person can't parallel park? And worse yet, admits it?

Well, I've had to parallel park about a whopping five times in three + years of driving. I can do it, just not very easily. It requires a lot of thought and tries. I don't really care if I can't do it or not, it's not like it really refects poorly on me as a person.

Parallel parking is overrated. When I took the test, they had me park behind one car and pretend that there was another car a certain distance away. I got dinged for supposedly not looking both ways before turning at a 4-way stop though. I don't care what the guy said...it is possible to look without physically moving my head each direction.

When I lived in Chapel Hill, I played in two different bands, and I ended up buying and converting a 15-passenger church van to haul all our gear around.
I got to be very proficient in parallel parking that church van in normal-sized spots. It's one of my finest accomplishments in life. |

in my younger, wilder days I had my license suspended.
one night, I had plans to go out bar hopping, but no longer had an ID. so, of course, I drove down to the DMV (which shares a building with the State Police) to get my non-driver ID. my wife still uses that to remind me of how much of an idiot I am.

I'm okay at parallel parking... I've never actually had to do it in a real life situation, but on the driving test I was perfect on that part... I avoid parallel parking like the plague, cause I know that I'll end up hitting both cars and probably run someone over in the process of trying to park.

And you probably thought my trip to DMV would be without incident. At least I wasn't pulled over.
