FOF2K4 crashing problems
Im having problems with FOF crashing on me on a regular basis. It occurs in two places so far: when simulating a week (doesnt matter which week, just seems to be random) and doing the free agency period.
I've tried starting new games and still get the problem When it occurs during game simulations i have to reload the program and then it usually (not always) works and i can keep playing. The problem is much worse in free-agency. I have yet to make it past week 7 of the first offseason without the game crashing. I've tried reinstalling the game but that doesnt work. I have the latest verison (5.0d) and run on windows xp. Does anyone know of a solution or did i just lose some $30? |

This is pretty unusual. There have been very few reports of crashes since the early TCY import crash issue. I'd agree with trying the uninstall/re-install.

That sucks. It's also the first I've ever heard of FOF2k4 crashing.

I've gotten a couple of these in the last week or so (before 5.0c/d). There's some nasty virus that's doing a number on people's computers lately - either preventing disk-writes or interfering with them. The answer is likely to find some good, updated anti-virus software.

i did a virus scan and cleaned up my computer, uninstalled and then reinstalled the game and it still crashes during game simulations and free agency.
Any other things i should try? |

How about DirectX9.0b? Might want to send your dxdiag info over to Solecismic, I'd imagine? Sorry to hear about the crashes and all.

Not so sure, to be honest...but it wouldn't hurt making sure everything's up to date. I try to at least keep my machines up to date, with Windows Updates and the like. In any case, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt.
EDIT - By the way, when you've uninstalled the game, did you do a fresh reboot before trying to install it again?

ok, uninstalled the program, restarted and then tried to reinstall. but when i click the link for the installer i get a weird pop-up that says "This program is used internally by PackageForTheWeb. It should not be executed directly."

Have you tried re-downloading? If you had a virus, it likely infected the download/install, and now you are reinstalling a virused exe (and probably putting the virus back on your machine). It sure sounds like the installer is messed up from that last post.
