A Washington Redskins FOF2K4 Dynasty

This is my first shot at a Dynasty on the boards so bear with me as I zip thru the first couple of seasons to get to the meat and bones of where I am now.
Also allow for my 2 Cent backstory as I pretty much make one up on the fly . Also note that I match the FOF coaches to their NFL couterparts and use the real names, regardless of wether the ages don't match up, it just makes the immersion that much better for me.

I started in 2003 with the Redskins and the Real Player File, I let the computer do everything and quick simmed straight thru. The Skins went 8-8, Ramsey did not develop at all and Spurrier hit the highway leaving a team in dissaray and crazy cap issues. Dan Snyder was getting bombarded by the local and national press as the Skins had become a laughingstock, it was at this point that I won the lottery, I invested in a mouth wash for your ass that left you feeling minty fresh down there all day long and reaped the huge financial windfall that such an endevor would allow. Now having many many millions at my disposal I went to Hollywood and produced a couple of runaway blockbusters that soared my assests into stratosphere, I bedded Charlize Theron multiple times and flew back east to buy me a football team. I wanted the Eagles, they were team, always have been, always will be, but they weren't selling, So I did the next best thing, I offered Dan Snyder 25% above what the Skins were worth. He didn't wanna sell but after a few months the pressure became too much and in the middle of the night we signed the papers and he slithered out of town, leaving me with total control of the Washington Redskins. As the sun came up that beautifull Washington morning I basked in the glory of having my own NFL team to run, and I banged Charlize Theron on the 50 yardline, sweeeeeeeet.

2004
-------------------
(Just want to note that this all cut and pasted from my own haphazzard notes of 2004, starting with 2005 I'm getting to get much more detailed and post as I go rather than cutting and pasting.)

The first thing we have to do is find ourselves a Coach, I want a young guy, someone who can breath new life into this organization and get things turned around, I decide on Cincinatti defensive coordinator, Leslie Frazier, making him the youngest African American Head Coach in NFL history.
Frazier is smart, young and full of energy and wisdom, he coached the Eagles secondary for 4 years before moving to Cincinnati last year with Marvin Lewis and now he takes over as our head coach. He hires Chicago Bears Offensive Coordinator Terry Shea as our Offensive Coordinator and imfamous "Almost" Notre Dame head coach George O'Leary to head up our defense. Our stas has a great mix of youth and wisdom and really brings a solid core to our staff.

Now we have to trim some dead weight, and boy do we have some dead weight, we start by releasing a plethora of players,
RELEASED- DE Bruce Smith- His decision not to retire frustrated us, we tried to negotiate a new contract that would allow him to stay on at a less exorborant price tag but his refusal to budge below a mere $300,000 contract cut made it easy for us to take away all of his base salary, some $6.3 Million, F him, get the hell out of town, this is a new era in Redskins football.

RELEASED- DT Lional Dalton- His base salary was $2 Million dollars, he must have gay photos of Daniell Snyder, I don't care, he's out of here baby.

RELEASED- QB Rob Johnson- He's making $1.2 Million, he must have copies of Lional Daltons pictures. Hey Rob, "knock, knock....no, not "Who's there?" that's an impersonation of the door at the Unemploymant Office tommorow morning." Goodbye.

RELEASED- FS Matt Bowen- He's a leader but his skills just arnt that good, and he's making $1.2 Million so he's gotta go.

RELEASED- DT Jermaine Haley- He's making $650,000 and he sucks, so he's out of here.

RELEASED- K John Hall- We saved $900,000 this year, it'll cost us next year but he just sucks.

We also released the following bad players with low salaries,
RELEASED- TE Zeron Flemister
RELEASED- WR Cliff Russell
RELEASED- T Brandon Winey
RELEASED- TE Robert Royal
RELEASED- FB Rock Cartwright
RELEASED- CB Ade Jimoh
RELEASED- RB Sultan McCullough
RELEASED- RB Trung Canidate
RELEASED- RB Ladell Betts

We head into the Free Agency Period with the following 16 players under contract,
QB- Patrick Ramsey- Coming off a horrid year and not looking much like a future NFL QB.
RB- Chad Morton- Was our starter by default last year and was average, 3 years left on his contract, a decision.
WR- Rod Gardner- Coming into his own as bonafide #1 WR, 2 years left on his deal, a real asset on offense.
WR- Laveranues Coles- Very good possesion reciever, 6 years left on a big money deal, a good WR but not elite.
WR- Taylor Jacobs- 3 Years left on his rookie deal, some deep skills, still developing, kind of blase on him.
C- Larry Moore- 7 year vet, on last year of deal, excellent run blocker but not much else, probably his last year.
G- Randy Thomas- 6 year vet, 5 years left on his deal, a stellar run Guard in his prime, a key to our team.
T- Chris Samuels- 5 Year superstar LT, 2 years left on a huge deal, keeping him will be hard, he is a costly talent.
T- Jon Jansen- 6 year vet, 5 years left, Alot of money wrapped up in him, a good run blocker but not pass blocker.
T- Derrick Dockery- In his 2nd year, 3 years left, a very good player who should replace Jansen but the moneys an issue.
DE- Renaldo Wynn- 8 year vet, decent player but his contract escelates next year and we'll likely release him then.
LB- Jeremiah Trotter- A solid run defender who played very well last year but a long term big money contract makes it hard.
LB- LaVar Arrington- 5th year vet, a very very good player, but he's making over $10 Million the next 2 years, tough.
LB- Jessie Armstead- Veteran, good run defender, a solid vet in his last year, probably the last with our team.
CB- Fred Smoot- Terrific across the board very good CB, in his last year of rookie deal, needs to be a priority.
S- Andre Lott- Good zone defender, very smart player, in the last year of his rookie deal, not a priority.

Key Free Agents
C- Lennie Friedman- Good run blocker, strong, good long snapper, would like to have back as a fallback to Moore.
CB- Champ Bailey- A very good player but his man to man skills arnt super. I need to decide between he and Smoot.

FREE AGENCY
We decide not to Franchise Tag anyone and just let the chips fall where they may with Bailey and Friedman.
Bailey and Friedman signed with New Orleans and Baltimore respectivly.

SIGNED- DE Antonio Cochran- 3YR, 2.5M- An above average pass rusher, not real durable, a strong backup/starter for cheap.
SIGNED- RB Brian Westbrook- 3YR, 1.4M- Fast scatback and kick/punt returner, really good special/backup RB for little money.
SIGNED- S Marques Anderson- 3YR, 1.4M- Smart guy with potential for man and zone defense skills, a quality backup Safety.
SIGNED- S Jason Sehorn- 2YR, 1.6M- Good bump and run defender, hard hitter, quality veteran backup.
SIGNED- QB Marc Bulger- 3YR, 2.6M- Not alot of potential but he is a young QB who has shown flashes, a good deal.
SIGNED- CB Willie Middlebrooks- 4YR, 3.3M- Potential for real good run stop, zone defense and ap unishing hitter, 3rd CB.

2004 DRAFT
We see a very, very thin draft after the first round and decide to try and make a deal,
we send our 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks to Minnesota for their 2nd and 4th picks in 2006.
Amateur Draft Report:
Rnd 1 - Percy Page, QB, Colorado- 4YR, 7.7M- A big time across the board QB with personality issues, a huge steal at 20.
Rnd 5 - Mel Cobb, WR, Central Florida- 3YR, 1.4M- Not great hands but he can run routes and is solid under pressure.
Rnd 6 - Ian Daniels, CB, UNLV- 3YR, 1.1M- A very fast kid with good man to man skills, the hope is that he can develop.
Rnd 7 - J.R. Scanga, G, Pittsburgh- 3YR, 1M- A very strong guy with no alot of ability so far but were gonna work with him.

PRE TRAINING CAMP ROSTER MOVES & NOTES
TRADE- We send Patrick Ramsey to Carolina in exchange for their 4th round draft pick next year.
With Page as our clear #1 and Bulger backing him there was no need to keep Ramsey around.

RENOGOTIATED- CB Fred Smoot- 4YR, 21M- We locked him up long term and the contract is pretty even across the years, nice.

We sign a bunch of players to 1 year contracts and head into the season.

Our Week 17 upset of Philly earns us a trip to the playoffs, unfortunatly it's a rematch against the Eagles in Philly. On top of that Rod Gardner dislocated his knee last week and is done for the year. We fight hard and play well but we come up short, losing 28-24, but i'm very proud of our team and can see the attitude turning around. Next year we try to really step things up.

2005 OFFSEASON
We come off a very uplifting season, a turnaround season if you will with a high powered passing game in tact.
We have no real important Free Agents save a few surprise players who outperformed our highest expectations last season.

KEY FREE AGENTS
G Corbin Lacina- Ran block like a MOFO last year, did allow 7 sacks but his 48.6% BPct was outstanding.
DT Kindal Moorehead- Started all 16 games last year and was adaquete, would not mind having him as a backup.
DT Aubrayo Frankin- Same as Moorehead, we will improve that starters spot if we can but as a backup he is usefull to us.
LB Jessie Armstead- A veteran who played well last year, would not mind having him back but can't pay big bucks.

OVERVIEW
We have 22 players signed and are about $20 Million under the cap.
Arrington and Samuels account for over $20 Million in cap space and we would like to rework their deals if possible.
Mark Bulger is someone whom we think has some real value that we can move and get a quality pick for.
I'm not comfortable with the amount of money spent at the Linebacker position, if it's possible a trade or cut of Jeremiah Trotter could be forthcoming in the offseason, it's an issue we have to deal with.
Our keys this Offseason are to address the RB, FB and TE spots on Offense and work very hard to improve the D-Line.

**FREE AGENCY**
A number of young and very good Defensive Linemen are out there, DT's Kris Hovan and Kris Jenkins are our main targets.
DE John Abraham is another guy we are focusing on, we'd like to get 1 of the DT's and Abraham.

TRADE- The Jets are in dire need of a QB heading into Free Agency and we open up talks regarding QB Mark Bulger.
We want their 2nd round pick, they don't wanna give it up and it's a stalemate, for awhile.
They try and get a QB elsewhere but deep down inside they really want Bulger.
In the end they agree to the deal and we send off QB Mark Bulger to the NY Jets in exchange for the 2nd pick in Round 2.

RENOGOTIATE- LB LaVar Arrington- 4YR, $25M- The deal extends him past this year and saves us some cap space, a good deal.

SIGNED- DE John Abraham- 4YR, $37M- A huge difference maker, a stud LDE who is in his 6th year, a stud in his prime, nice.
SIGNED- DT Kris Jenkins- 5YR, $33M- A good, popular player following O'Leary, an all around playmaker at DT, a big signing.
SIGNED- TE Stephen Alexander- 2YR, $1.7M- A slightly above average player at this point, but a fan favorite coming home.
SIGNED- S Colin Branch- 3YR, $2.1M- Still developing above average pass defense ability but a hard hitter and a ball hog.
SIGNED- S Matt Stevens- 1YR, $770K- Veteran leader who can stop the run well and play very good man to man defense.
SIGNED- WR Brandon Lloyd- 3YR, $2.3M- Developing above average skills, not a good route runner but he has skills.
SIGNED- C Adam Treu- 2YR, $2.3M- Veteran, run blocks great, pass block is ehhh, not the ideal guy but a decent stopgap.

KEY LOSSES- Jessie Armstead and Larry Moore

I feel like we made out pretty damn well, we got 2 stud Defensive players and signed a couple of quality backups to extended deals. We didn't expect to be able to resign Armstead so we prepared to lose him, Moore was pretty much a non factor.
As we head into the draft we have 28 players signed and only $6.3 Million left under the cap so we may still have to deal the contracts of Samuels and Trotter this year in order to create some space.

***2005 AMATEUR DRAFT***
We sit at #20 and have our eye on a few players, a really good Center, an all around qulaity DE and a very good CB.
we'll take any of them but as the draft progresses i'm wondering about trying to move up and get the C.
They all go off the board between picks 12 & 15, leaving us scrambling to find a suitable pick.

Amateur Draft Report:
Rnd 1 - Howie Simonain, S, West Alabama
Rnd 2 - Andre Cook, P, Oregon- Early for a Punter but he's the best in the draft by far and we need solid Kickers.
Rnd 2 - Kurt Barron, OLB, Virginia- Great run defense and pass rush skills, his pass defense is average but thats ok.
Rnd 3 - Reuben Krueger, T, Western Michigan- Above average run and pass blocking skills, a solid player, backup/starter.
Rnd 4 - Donnie Hoy, C, Mississippi- A very strong and very smart guy, hasn't produced numbers but we think the talents there.
Rnd 4 - Lamont Chesnut, CB, Syracuse- Great man and zone defender, doesn't do much else but what he does he does great.
Rnd 5 - Lewis Blackburn, K, Army- Accurate and powerfull leg, kickoffs are iffy but we think he's solid.
Rnd 6 - Willie Jenkins, QB, Tennessee- We feel a talented QB, an itchy trigger finger but has talent, a very nice pick.
Rnd 7 - Brent Engeln, CB, Southern Mississippi- Doesn't play zone well but has the capacity to everything else very well.

We got a B- for the draft, oh well, I gotta disagree with that, we'll see how things stand once we get into camp
but I think we did a real good job of adding at the very least some quality depth.

***PRE TRAINING CAMP ROSTER MOVES***
We need to go out and add some players to the roster, and now is probably the time to bite the bullet and work on
the deals of Trotter and Samuels.

RELEASED- DE Renaldo Wynn- His $4 Million dollar cap hit was too much to take for a backup, like him, not at that price.
RENOGOTIATED- LT Chris Samuels- 6YR, $72.3M- It's a huge deal, but with a young QB it's a deal that had to be done.

SIGNED- RB Correll Buckhalter- 1YR, 560K- A veteran who can run well in a pinch, will comepete for the backup RB spot.
SIGNED- G Cosey Coleman- 2YR, 2.2M- A strong but just below average 6th year player. Not special but solidly average.
SIGNED- FB Heath Evans- 3YR, 1.7M- Good special teams player, great PB potential and a nice little reciever.
SIGNED- TE Steve Heiden- 2YR, 1.3M- Above average blocker with solid hands, will compete with Alexander for TE job.
SIGNED- DT Doug Golding- 2YR, 940K- Not a very good player, a warm body mainly
SIGNED- DT Rashad Moore- 3YR, 1.8M- 3rd year player with great run stopping potential, now we have to nurture it.
SIGNED- DT Larry Tripplett- 2YR, 1.1M- 4th year player, a hard hitting, pretty solid if average player, servicable.
SIGNED- G John Welbourn- 2YR, 1.8M- Alot of wear on this vet but he's got solid ability, was great last year.

TRAINING CAMP NOTES AND ROSTER MOVES
Percy Page is an inch away from becoming an elite QB, it's clear that he's got the skills, I suspect that one
more year in the league is all he'll need before taking that big leap, he has been very impressive.
Mel Cobb and Ian Daniels are not looking at all like NFL calliber players, i'd be shocked if they made it thru pre season.
Willie Jenkins is still developing but he show some moderate promise, he could be a backup quality QB in the future.
Donnie Hoy is not showing us much in the way of ability, but he's a student of the game, hopefully he'll come around.
Reuben Krueger is showing real above average potential, if he can fufill it he will be a solid player.
Andre Cook is a very solid Punter. Lewis Blackburn has not been the Kicker we expected him to be so far, I hope he improves.
Kurt Barron is looking solid enough and showing some potential, I just don't think it's 2nd round quality.
Lamont Chesnut & Brent Engeln both show some potential but it's nothing more than 3rd or 4th CB potential, which is okay.
Howie Simonain is already a very solid player, but a solid Safety is a regular thing.
I can see where we got B- grade from, I'm not entirely happy with the draft at the moment but we have to take what we have and move on and be happy with what we got.

SIGNED- QB Charlie Batch- 1YR, 700K- He will come in and be the backup QB.
SIGNED- DE Junior Ioane- 1YR, 560K- A strong dude, can pass rush a bit, nothing special.
SIGNED- DE Ryan Conaty- 1YR, 400K- Smart kid, and pretty strong, but not a great player.
SIGNED- LB Paul Boss- 1YR, 400K- Hard hitting good bump and run defender, potential pass rush ability, will be a backup.
SIGNED- LB Henri Crockett-1YR, 700K- Veteran is suffering from arthritis, may not play but his ability is worth the risk.
SIGNED- LB Joe Odom- 1YR, 400K- Not great, but if Crockett can't go he will play.
DEACTIVATED- T Reuben Krueger- He needs to progress but we have 3 very good Tackles ahead of him on the roster.
DEACTIVATED- CB Ian Daniels- He should be cut, he's only still here cause he's young.
DEACTIVATED- CB Brent Engeln- He should play but if he plays Matt Stevens would be cut and our locker room needs him.
DEACTIVATED- LB Henri Crockett- His arthritis isn't letting him play yet, but if he can come back we'll activate him.
RELEASED- S Jason Sehorn- Matt Stevens arrival meant Jason was expendable, we save A million bucks.

Washington sold 78,400 season tickets for the season out of a capacity of 80,100.
We get thru the pre season with a few bumps and bruises but everyone is pretty much ok.

***REGULAR SEASON PREVIEW***
Percy Page comes into his 2nd year as the incumbent starter and a star on the rise, Jenkins won the backup job.
Brian Westbrook returns as the starting RB, he proved last year that he was a quality back and we have no problem
giving him the majority of the reps again this year. Heath Evans gets most of the time at FB with Johnson backing him up.
Heiden and Alexander are a quality tandem at TE which should be much improved from last year.
Gardner and Coles are as quality a 1-2 punch at WR as there is in the league, and Jacobs and Lloyd are very good backups.

Samuels and Jansen are studs at Tackle with Dockery being a superb backup, the best 3 man Tackle tandem in the league.
Randy Thomas holds down the LG position, he's a great player. Wellbourne and Coleman are solid at RG, a decent combo.
Treu is a great run blocker at Center but he can't pass protect very well, Hoy looks to be little help as his backup.

John Abraham starts at LDE, giving us a real impact player. Cochrane at RDE should be able to get the QB pretty easily.
Conaty and Iione are not very solid backups but we'll have to settle for what they can give us.
Chris Jenkins at LT is a wall against the run, Rashad Moore will start at RT and hopefully his run stop promise will bloom.
Triplett and Jenkins arn't all that great but as I said, we'll have to live with them.
Arrington and Crocket will flank Trotter at the LB position with Barron and Odom being the primary backups.

Smoot is a star at CB, Middlebrook doesn't play man well enough to be a starting CB in my opinion but he's the only other quality CB we have. Stevens adds more in the locker room than on the field and Chestnutt will be ok but he's so young.
Simonain and Anderson will start at Safety with Branch providing a quality backup at both spots. We have 3 nice Safeties.

Overall I think that as long as Westbrook carries the load at RB we have a very threatening offense, we can pass the ball on just about anybody with 2 great WR's and 2 solid backups.
Defense is another issue, we have 5 playmakers, a few solid players and a bunch of relative junk. Not alot of depth.
I expect this team to be at least as good as it was last year, I'd be dissapointed with anything less than 10 wins.
That being said, let's get this sucker going.

WASHINGTON REDSKINS 2005 REGULAR SEASON

WEEK 1- Washington Redskins At New York Giants 1PM EST FOX
A very tight game all the way thru, we led 13-7 at the half and 13-10 after the 3rd quarter. We put up 17 unanswered 4th quarter points to break it open and pull away. We wore them down on the ground all game long and Page was very effective all day. Our defense came up with 3 picks, Westbrook ran for 174 yards and Page went 18-23 with 2 TD's. Great way to start.
FINAL SCORE: Redskins 30 Giants 10

WEEK 2- Washington Redskins (1-0) At Oakland Raiders (0-1) 4PM EST CBS
We got off to a slow start, trailing 10-0 after the first quarter but we dominated the rest of the way.
We went on a 28-3 run to end the game, 3 of those TD's comeing from Brian Westbrook.
Westbrook ran for another 150 yards and 3TD's, Page went 18-36 with 4 Interceptions, ouch.
Our defense dominated, letting up only 3 points and claiming 5 sacks and an Interception, a great effort all around.
Westbrook leads the league in rushing by over 100 yards after 2 weeks, Gardner also leads the league in recieving yards.
One bad note, starting FB Heath Evans has suffered torn Quad and is out for the year. We sign FB Jim Finn.
FINAL SCORE: Redksins 28 Raiders 13

WEEK 3- Washington Redskins (2-0) At Chicago Bears (1-1) 1PM EST FOX
A wild and wacky game as the first 6 possesions resulted in scores and Chicago led 24-14 midway thru the 2nd quarter.
Things settled down as our defense shut them down but Page threw a couple of bad picks.
With about 6 minutes left we got a FG and then a 30 yard TD pass with over a minute left tied it.
They had to punt from midfield with about 25 seconds left and Arrington blocked it, hell yeah.
We kick a FG as time expires to win it and remain undefeated, brilliant.
Westbrook was shut down, getting only 50 yards but Coles and Gardner each caught over 100 yards and Page went over 300 yards.
Horrible news in the locker room after the game however as learn the DT Kris Jenkins has a torn triceps
and is done for the year, that totaly kills us, a crushing injury.
With Jenkins out we cut Ian Daniels to get some cap space and sign DT James Atkins who has a little run stop ability.
FINAL SCORE: Redskins 27 Bears 24

WEEK 4- Washington Redskins (3-0) Vs Seattle Seahwaks (2-1) 1PM EST FOX
We trail 10-0 at the half but pull it together in the second half, and a Colin Branch 45 yard Int return early in the 4th quarter puts us up 17-13 and we go on to win it 20-16. Westbrook has 66 yards, Page is efficient and the defense steps up in the 2nd half as we move to 4-0.
FINAL SCORE: Redskins 20 Seahawks 16

WEEK 5- Washington Redskins (4-0) At San Fransisco 49ers (2-2) 8:30 EST ESPN
One more time we start slow and trail 20-10 late in the 3rd quarter before we run of 10 points to tie the game.
They have the ball at their own 40 as time is running out, Garcia drops back for a hail Mary but Abraham gets his hand on his arm, the ball floats up and Colin Branch grabs it and scatters 49 yards for a game winning TD as time expires, a play that will be seen over and over for the rest of the season, a pile up in our endzone as Niners fans are shocked.
Westbrook gets 80 more yards, Page is 21-35 for 303 yards, Gardner and Coles both go over 100 yards.
Abraham grabs 2 more sacks, a glorious game for Redskins fans.
FINAL SCORE: Redskins 27 49ers 20

WEEK 6- Washington Redskins (5-0) VS St. Louis Rams (3-2) 1PM EST FOX
A high powered back and forth shootout that hands us our first loss as they kick a FG as time expires to get the win.
Westbrook had 101 yards and Page was good but our defense really got spanked today.
FINAL SCORE: Rams 33 Redskins 32

WEEK 7- Washington Redskins (5-1) Vs Philadelphia Eagles (5-0) 4PM EST FOX
A huge game as we take on the 5-0 Eagles for first place in the NFC East.
A good back and forth game that we trail 27-21 with 6 minutes left until Page engineers 2 good drives that both result in TD's to give us a 35-27 win. A monster road win against our division foes, a very big comeback game.
Westbrook has 126 yards and Buckhalter has 50 yards, they really stepped it up against their old team.
Page went 17-25 with 3 TD's.
FINAL SCORE: Redskins 35 Eagles 27

WEEK 8- Washington Redskins (6-1) At Arizona Cardinals (0-7) 4PM EST FOX
A game we could of taken lightly but we jump out to a 17-0 lead early and cruise from there, impressive.
Page went 22-27 with 2 TD's and Westbrook got 68 yards. Our defense played superb, totaly shutting them down.
FINAL SCORE: Redskins 35 Cardinals 13

WEEK 9- BYE
At the Bye we have a 7-1 record and are tied with the Eagles for first place in the division, Dallas is 5-3, 2 games back.
Page has had some growing pains, he's statisticly in the middle of the pack of QB's.
Westbrook has been monster, he leads the league in rushing yards and TD's. Gardner and Coles are both in the top 20 in the big recieving catagories. Abraham and Cochrane each have 6.5 sacks. Colin Branch has 4 picks and has played great for us.

WEEK 10- Washington Redskins (7-1) At Dallas Cowboys (5-3) 9PM EST ABC
A monday showcase for our team and we dominate the boys from big D. Page throws 4 TD's, Westbrook goes over 100 yards.
Our defense smothers them and gets 4 sacks, a complete blowout, oh so pretty.
FINAL SCORE: Redskins 31 Cowboys 16

WEEK 11- Washington Redskins (8-1) Vs New York Giants (5-4) 1PM EST FOX
A total domination as Page goes 17-22 for 3 TD's and Trotter gets a 79 yard pick for a TD and our Defense smothers them.
Oh crap, Chris Samuels goes down in the 3rd quarter, we find out later it's a torn calf muscle, SHITTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!
We put Samuels on injured reserve and activate Reuben Krueger, this is a mighty blow, 2 of our big time players gone, ouch.
FINAL SCORE: Redskins 37 Giants 3

WEEK 12- Washington Redskins (9-1) At San Diego Chargers (5-5) 4PM EST CBS
We play a very blase game, not putting all our effort into and it showed as we trailed all the way, always thinking we could just turn it on whenever we wanted but once they got up 16-6 we were in trouble. We got a late TD to make it close but that was all we could muster. A trap game if there ever was one and we fell right into it.
Westbrook had 32 yards, Page was sacked 4 times, not good.
FINAL SCORE: Chargers 16 Redskins 14

WEEK 13- Washington Redskins (9-2) Vs Carolina Panthers (5-6) 1PM EST FOX
Last weeks loss really hurt us as we now trail Philly by a game, we've got to stay within a game of them in the next 2 weeks and then take them out ourselves in week 15, we've got to rally and finish strong.
Much like most of our games this year, this was a wild one. We went back and forth and up down the field with them all day long. We got a FG with 6 minutes left to go up 30-27 and we held on to win a tight one. A hard fought win.
Westbrook had 88 yards, Page threw for over 300 yards again and Buckhalter had 85 yards and 2 TD's, big win.
FINAL SCORE: Redskins 30 Panthers 27

WEEK 14- Washington Redskins (10-2) Vs Denver Broncos (7-5) 1PM EST CBS
We went up 17-0 in the first quarter but then they ran off 24 straight points to take the lead going into the 4th quarter.
We got 2 TD's but they answered and sent the game into OT. After trading possesions we got a 55 yard FG to win it.
Westbrook had 110 yards, Page threw 2 TD's and we won another nail biter. I'll tell ya what, we got alot of heart.
FINAL SCORE: Redskins 34 Broncos 31

WEEK 15- Washington Redskins (11-2) At Philadelphia Eagles (12-1) 1PM EST FOX
This is our waterloo, if we lose then the Division is all but theirs, we've got to go out there today and take it to em.
On a cold and rainy day they jump out to a 17-0 lead before we can even blink but we hunker down.
Page connects on some big passes and we stem them on defense and go on a 28-3 run.
They close it to 28-23 and then get a pick for a TD to take a 29-28 lead late but Page drives us down the field and with just over 30 seconds left Westbrook runs it in from 12 yards out to give us the lead and a huge win, we now control our own destiny. Westbrook has 87 yards, Page goes 19-30 for 341 yards and 4 TD's, Coles has 133 yards recieving, what a big day.
FINAL SCORE: Redskins 34 Eagles 29

WEEK 16- Washington Redskins (12-2) Vs Kansas City Chiefs (7-7) 1PM EST CBS
Down 21-17 with 5 minutes left Fred Smoot picks off a pass and went 50 yards for a TD to seal another close win.
Page got sacked 4 more times, I worry about him. Westbrook was solid, we got 3 more sacks.
FINAL SCORE: Redskins 24 Chiefs 21

WEEK 17- Washington Redskins (13-2) Vs Dallas Cowboys (8-7) 4PM EST FOX
For whatever reason, we come out flat and Frazier is worried, and so am I.
They get off 10 early points and we just look so flat, son of a bitch. Page is getting pressured all day and our offense does nothing, our running game gets totaly shut down and we fall further and further behind.
They get an early 4th quarter TD to go up 26-6 and that's that. They played with the heart of a rival and we came out cocky and got clobbered.
FINAL SCORE: Cowboys 26 Redskins 12

PLAYOFFS
WILD CARD ROUND
WASHINGTON REDSKINS AT GREEN BAY PACKERS 1PM EST SUNDAY FOX

The Packers went 7-7-2 to win a weak NFC North, but after last weeks performance we can't take any team for granted.
I hope that that game got our players heads on straight as we should really be able to roll thru these next 2 weeks and face Philly for the NFC Title, but anything can happen. I trust that Frazier can reach these players and get them up for this.

A very cold day in Green Bay and we come out just as flat as could be again. They dominate the first half and build a 17-0 lead at Halftime, Frazier can be heard from the locker room reading this team the riot act.
Our defense buckles down but we can't do anything on offense, with 8 minutes left we trail 20-6.
Page finaly rallies the troops, leading us on 2 strong drives, the 2nd of which culminates with a 10 yard TD pass to Taylor Jacobs with 2:08 left in the game to tie it at 20. Green Bay won't be denied on this day however as they march right down field and as time expires they kick the game winning FG to end our season and send us home with 2 horrible defeats in a row.
FINAL SCORE: Packers 23 Redskins 20

Overall it was a bad way to end a very good year. We were carried by Westbrook thru the first half of the year and when he trailed off Page stepped up and played like a man possesed, but with Samuels injury he was in a contstant state of rush and he got hit way too many times. It's clear that our defense is not stellar, we won too many close games that could of gone the other way. I'm not saying this team is a fluke but we surely need to upgrade and stabalize some things if we're gonna keep on this path.

2006 OFFSEASON
We come into the offseason with 38 players signed but we're $3 Million over the cap and Rod Gardner is a free agent.
We need to clear alot of cap space and do some things to help us but not wreck the cap for us in the future.

FREE AGENCY
We designate Rod Gardner as our franchise player, now we have to figure out a way to sign him long term.
RELEASED- RB Chad Morton- He was our 3rd string back last year and won't be any more this year, we save $1.8 Million.
RELEASED- LB Jermiah Trotter- He has declined the past 3 years and we saved $5 Million off the cap, had to do it.
CAP OUT- T Chris Samuels
CAP OUT- DE John Abraham
RESIGNED- WR Rod Gardner- 4YR, $37M- We needed to keep him, our cap is in trouble with these 3 moves though.
TRADE- We make a huge deal with the Giants to get stud CB Will Peterson.
Peterson is in the final year of his deal and is not very receptive to staying in New York, we offer 3 #1 picks and both our 2nd round picks this year to the Giants to get him, a huge deal.

Outside of the huge trade we do nothing in Free Agency, im content to go into the draft and try and grab some quality players with our low round picks. We lost Corel Buckhalter and that is gonna hurt us, he was superb as the backup RB last year.

AMATEUR DRAFT
Amateur Draft Report:
Rnd 3 - Russell Montgomery, DE, Truman State- Good technique but the size is not there, we'll try and beef him up a bit.
Rnd 4 - Mike Houston, G, Minnesota- A strong kid, surprising that he pass blocks alot better than he run blocks.
Rnd 4 - Charles Holdman, ILB, Penn State- Can get to the QB but that's about it, may be converted to DE.
Rnd 5 - Vernon Lyons, ILB, Southern California- A smart kid who can play the zone well but not athletic enough to go man-man.
Rnd 6 - Dale Rainville, ILB, Duke- Has speed, don't know about the size though. A fast guy who can cover, needs to learn how.
Rnd 7 - Jason Distel, QB, Stanford- He's got a brain and a gun but not alot of QB ability, we'll try and mold him.

PRE TRAING CAMP ROSTER MOVES
RELEASED- G Cosey Coleman- Saved us about 700K, a nice backup but we'll go with the rookie as the 3rd Guard this year.
SIGNED- RB Deuce McAllister- 4YR, 5.0M- Concussions will keep him out this year but if he can play again he plays for us.
SIGNED- LB Brandon Short- 2YR, 1.5M- Smart, hard nosed run stuffer who goes full bore on every player, an asset.
SIGNED- S Ifeanyi Ohalete- 1YR, 670K- A solid run stopper and zone defender, a good addition to our Safety mix.

TRAINING CAMP NOTES & ROSTER MOVES
None of our draftess look like anything special, a 2nd wasted draft in a row, really upsetting.
Im upset with the development of Tackle Reuben Krueger, I can see the potential but he's not growing as a player.
Derrick Dockery is having the same issues, he has not progressed very much since I bought the team, a bad trend.
Page has looked dominating in camp so far, SI had him on the cover of their NFL Preview issue, hope the curse doesn't hit.

RELEASED- LB Dale Rainville- He just wasn't picking the system up, doesn't look like an NFL calliber player.
RELEASED- WR Mel Cobb- He's our 5th WR and I could pay a rookie half of what he makes to do nothing just as easy.
RENOGOTIATED- CB Fred Smoot- 4YR, 26M- We needed some added cap space and we wanted to lock him up longer.
TRADE- We sent CB Lamont Chestnut to Baltimore in exchange for a 7th round pick next year.
SIGNED- RB Nate Rivers- 1YR, 250K- Rookie, has some power inside, that's about it.
SIGNED- DE Dusty Keith- 1YR, 250K- Nothing special at all, just a 4th DE.
SIGNED- RB Dwight Calloway- 1YR, 250K- Rookie, not much ability, will be the 3rd RB.
SIGNED- FB Jermaine Solwold- 1YR, 410K- A pretty decent pass blocker, will be the backup FB.
SIGNED- WR Ricky Cochrane- 1YR, 250K- Rookie, actually has very good hands, won't play much but still nice to have.
DEACTIVATED- RB Deuce McCallister- His concussions will keep him out for the rest of the year, hopefully he recovers.
DEACTIVATED- T Reuben Krueger- He's progressing but he's still the 4th Tackle on our depth chart.

Washington sold 79,200 season tickets for the season out of a capacity of 80,100.

PRE SEASON
We went 3-1 in the Pre Season and an elbow strain to Kris Jenkins is our only big injury, he'll need a few weeks off.
With Jenkins hurt we go out and sign DT Shaun Rogers to come in, he's a vet and he's solid, he will likely start.

REGULAR SEASON PREVIEW
The Backfield returns pretty much in order with the exception of 2 untested rookies taking over the backup RB duties.
Page, Westbrook, Gardner & Coles are our stars and Heiden, Alexander, Jacobs & Lloyd are our talented backups.

Samuels and Jansen retrun at Tackle with Dockery backing them, 2 great starters and a solid backup, a nice unit.
Thomas is a stud at LG and Wellbourne is good enough at RG but Mike Houston backing them up leaves little room for error.
True and Hoy return at Center. Hoy and Houston are not respectable backups on the line, Wellbourne is a borderline who should probably be backing up, but everyone else is a very talented player, it's one of the better lines in the league for sure.

Abraham and Cochrane return at DE, A star and a servicable starter, a good duo. Keith and Montgomery as their backups suck.
Shaun Rogers will start until Kris Jenkins returns, Triplett and Moore will share the other DT spot. Golding is our 4th DT and while he can pass rush a bit is not at the level of our other 3 guys, once Jenkins returns I can see dactivating him.
This unit is uneven when healthy but passable with some real playmakers, we need to be healthy though.

Arrington, our star LB returns on the outside, he is joined this year by Kurt Barron and Brandon Short in the middle.
All 3 of these guys are very similar in that they can stuff the run very well, which is fine by us.
Holdman and Lyons are not real good backups. As long as our starters stuff the run i'll be happy.
Arrington needs to play real well this year.

Smoot and Peterson are real shut down corners, a major plus. These guys will really make it hard to pass on us.
Middlebrook is an excellent 3rd CB, Engeln is pretty much a non factor as our 4th CB. A great CB unit makes our defense.
Simonaine and Branch are our starters at Safety but Ohalate and Anderson will play alot, all 4 guys are very solid.

Well, I'm still not sure about the team, lack of a backup RB could hurt us but I think Page is ready to really step into his own so we may not run that much at all. On the Defensive side we've got shutdown corners and 3 very good run stopping LB's to help our line. I think we're better than we were last year, wether that means 13 wins again is to be seen, but i'm hopefull.
