Let's Go Jackets!! - An EHM Dynasty
This is my first dynasty here on the FOFC boards, and I'm doing this for two reasons. One is that I haven't seen a hockey dynasty on here for a while and hope that the hockey fans enjoy this and can help me learn this sport better. The second is that I'm hoping a dynasty will help keep me interested and driven to play on in the career.
I normally don't post a lot around here, but I have been active in the eNFL, guiding the Steelers to the postseason and even won GM of the year. For this dynasty, I'm taking my favorite team, the Columbus Blue Jackets, and trying to guide them to their first playoff birth and eventually, winning the Stanley Cup. I'm a relatively new hockey fan, and I love watching the Blue Jackets play. I have been to a bunch of games this season, and even though the team is one of the worst in the league, the experience is awesome. Well, enough of the introduction, lets see a little bit of this team at June 13th, 2003. |

This is some notes I took when I looked over my new team for the first time. For this fictional career, Doug MacLean decided to resign from the GM position and to stay on as the head coach and I, Danny Turner, have been hired as the new GM of the Blue Jackets. Here's the first look at the team I have to mold and shape into a playoff contender. Right Wingers Nikolai Zherdev - Young Superstar, already the best scoring RW for the team, bad D Trevor Letowski - Solid D, good on the PK, know what you're getting Andrej Nedorost - Won't be on the roster David Vyborny - Solid guy, a #2 liner playing on top line Centers Tyler Wright - Gritty, Gritty, Gritty, character guy Espen Knutsen - An enigma at 31, IRL not with team, but I'll give him a shot Andrew Cassels - Very good w/passes, nice setup man on 1st line Todd Marchant - FA pickup, will compete w/Cassels for first line Left Wingers Rick Nash - The future of this franchise, will see top line time Jody Shelley - Fighter, will be a league leader in PIMs Mike Pandolfo - Not much on him, see if he can make team as #3 Geoff Sanderson - Scorer, will mix it up with Nash on first 2 lines Hannes Hyvonen - Same as Pandolfo D-Men Jaroslav Spacek - Point man on the PP, brings some offensive punch Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre - Mysterious, lost in the shuffle, will find role in camp Scott Lachance - Same with GP, his huge contract will be moved if needed Rostislav Klesla - 21 years old, will be top D-Man in the next couple years Luke Richardson - Great on D, captain, veteran presence Darryl Sydor - Similar along the lines w/Spacek, IRL traded to Tampa Bay Goalies Marc Denis - Very underrated, with some D help, will carry this team Freddy Brathwaite - FA pickup, nice to have solid backup to help Denis Minors C Manny Malhotra - should still be w/Dallas in this game, but I'll find a place for him on the team D Jamie Pushor - older vet, could push Grand-Pierre out C Danny Fritsche - 18 year old who will get a chance to win a spot G Pascal LeClaire - 20 year old who waits in the wings, might start a couple games in NHL R David Ling - gritty guy who could beat out Nedorost After looking at this team, I don't see us contending for a playoff spot just yet, but I can't say that conclusively. So, I will start off this season playing more of the veterans, and trying more to win now than to win later. If this isn't paying off, you'll see some more of my young guys getting more experience and some trades during the middle of the season. Tomorrow: Look for some updates as the team gets ready at training camp and shaping up for the exhibition season. |

Also, I'm looking for some help of how to present this dynasty, so feel free to throw some suggestions my way. I was thinking presenting a week worth's of games at a time would be nice, showing the team and the league at the same time. I just want to make this an enjoyment for myself and my readers.

June 23rd - Small deal, resign D Paul Manning, who will be a Syracuse Crunch (our AHL team) regular
June 25th - 2 minor league players return to the Crunch - G Andrew Penner and D Alexander Gusjkov Fast Forward to August 29th: Training Camp starts in 16 days August 29th - Inviting all my prospects to training camp, the intriguing prospects are: L Jaroslav Balastik - Drafted in 6th round - 2002, could compete for that 3rd line at 23 yrs old D Alexander Gusjkov - Drafted 7th round - 2003, at 26, we will see if he can make the team D Dimitri Kosmachev - Drafted 3rd round - 2003, 18 yr old with loads of talent, probably needs another year in juniors L Kevin Jarman - Drafted 4th round - 2003, anothery 18 yr old looking to surprise September 3rd - Forgot to mention that D Luke Richardson and D Duvie Wescott (minor leaguer) are both out for 2 months. League News: Atlanta trades LW Shawn McEachern to Toronto for D Bryan McCabe. Biggest trade I've seen so far in the league, with a couple solid veterans switching teams. September 5th - Preseason starts today September 6th - First game at Home v. Atlanta Atlanta (0-0-0-0) @ Columbus (0-0-0-0) Starting Lines for Columbus: Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny Nash-Cassels-Letowski Hyvonen-Knutsen-Zherdev Pandolfo-Wright-Nedorost Sydor-Klesla Spacek-Lachance Grand-Pierre-Eriksson Denis Game Recap: Code:
Good to see Nash play well, and Pandolfo, even with a goal, didn't have a great game. Its nice to get a win, and the next game will see some different faces getting some ice time. Post Game Notes: Scott Lachance (CBS) suffered thigh injury during the game in an incident with Ilya Kovalchuk (ATL). He is expected to be sidelined for a couple of days. I'll just put some ice on it and it'll be as good as new. It will take more than this to slow me down, he said after the game in the dressing room. This will be the only post like this for the preseason, as I want to get through and ready for the Regular Season, which will have posts like this one. |

September 9th - Home game vs. Detroit
Detroit (1-0-0-0) @ Columbus (1-0-0-0) Game Recap The Blue Jackets, playing a lot of young guys, hang with the Red Wings, even up 3-2 going into the 3rd, but Detroit scores 3 goals to win 5-3. RW Nikolai Zherdev had an outstanding game, with a goal and an assist. L Jaroslav Balastik and C Manny Malhotra played great games and helped their chances to make the club. Detroit 5, Columbus 3 Player of the week: Vincent Lecavalier (C) NHL has awarded Vincent Lecavalier (C) of Tampa Bay Lightning as Player Of The Week He registered 2 goals and 4 assists for 6 points in 2 games last week. A native of Canada, Vincent Lecavalier was originally drafted to the NHL by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1st round of the 1998 entry draft. He has appeared in 388 NHL games during his career, notching 117 goals and adding 150 assists along with 232 penalty minutes. The 23 year old center has played 2 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning this season, totalling 2+4=6 with 0 PIM. September 12th - Another home game vs. Detroit Detroit (2-0-0-0) @ Columbus (1-1-0-0) Game Recap The lineup featured a more veteran presence, but this wasn't a pretty game, Columbus gets up early on a David Vyborny goal, but 2 mins later, Brett Hull follows up with a goal of his own. With about 7 minutes left in the 3rd, Brendan Shanahan nets a goal to win the game for the Red Wings 2-1 Detroit 2, Columbus 1 Post Game Notes: David Vyborny (CBS) suffered thigh injury during the game in an incident with Chris Chelios (DET). He is expected to be sidelined for more than a month. I am sure the doc will fix it and get me back in action in abouth a month, was his answer to a reporter question after the game. This really hurts, as we are already thin at RW and we lose a good player in Vyborny. Nobody really stood out with an outstanding game, the D played a great game, along with C Andrew Cassels. September 15th - Home game vs. Chicago Chicago (1-1-0-1) @ Columbus (1-2-0-0) Game Recap Jaroslav Spacek came out to play against his former team, and by the time he was done putting up points for the night, it was 3-0 Columbus early in the 2nd. Spacek scored 2 goals and assisted on the Letowski goal, and the Blue Jackets coast to an easy 4-2 win. Another defenseman, Rusty Klesla, put up an outstanding performance, getting the first '10' rating given out to our team. Columbus 4, Chicago 2 September 18th - Washington comes into Columbus Washington (1-3-0-0) @ Columbus (2-2-0-0) Game Recap The Blue Jackets surge out to a 3-0 lead again, thanks to 2 PP goals from Cassels and Marchant, and solid play by goaltender Marc Denis. Both young stars Zherdev and Nash played solid games on the first line, with each having an assist. A pretty boring ending as the Jackets win 3-1 Columbus 3, Washington 1 Well, that wraps up the update for now. I'll try to work on this more later as this team goes through the preseason and we see who finds a spot on the roster and who heads back home or to Syracuse. |

FWIW, I'd rather see more about your own team (line combos and box scores) and less about the league.
But I'll be interested either way - keep up the good work!

I agree with Blade. I would like to know what is happening around the league then focus on just one team constantly. Gets boring faster, imo.

Yeah, the goal is to do a lot of both ends. Once the season starts, I'll tell you more about the final roster, as I'm carrying too many players in the preseason to go into much detail. Also, I'll post all box scores, line combos and any other news that comes up about my team. Along with that, EHM does a great job keeping league news, so I'll post a lot of it to. That way, I hope to get those in who want to know about my team, and those who want to know about the league, or both.
With that, I'm off to play some more preseason games |

September 19th - I just noticed a somewhat decent trade from 2 days ago
Pittsburgh Penguins traded center Kris Beech and left wing Jason Jaffray to New Jersey Devils for left wing Sergei Brylin and NJ 5th round pick in 2004 draft A native of Russia, Sergei Brylin was originally drafted to the NHL by the New Jersey Devils in the 2nd round of the 1992 entry draft. He has appeared in 441 NHL games during his career, notching 78 goals and adding 104 assists along with 156 penalty minutes. The 29 year old left wing has played 4 games with the New Jersey Devils this season, totalling 0+0=0 with 4 PIM. A native of Canada, Kris Beech was originally drafted to the NHL by the Washington Capitals in the 1st round of the 1999 entry draft. He has appeared in 100 NHL games during his career, notching 10 goals and adding 17 assists along with 57 penalty minutes. The 22 year old center has played 5 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins this season, totalling 0+1=1 with 4 PIM. A bit confusing as Pittsburgh doesn't have much talent, so why they'd want to trade Beech is confusing, although Brylin should come right in on their first line. September 21st - Another home game, vs. Carolina Carolina (2-0-0-3) @ Columbus (3-2-0-0) Game Recap: Carolina takes the first 7 penalties of the game, but only puts them into a 2-1 hole, with a goal from Nedorost and Fritche for us, but a SH goal by Ron Francis for the Hurricanes in the 2nd to bring them within 1. However, Todd Marchant nets his 3rd of the preseason on yet another PP for the CBJ's as we go on to win the game 3-1. Marc Denis looks sharp again in net and I'm excited for Danny Fritche's goal, an Ohioan who has a good chance to make this club at 18 years of age. Columbus 3, Carolina 1 September 22nd - The Tampa Bay Lightning looking at the market The Tampa Bay Lightning are looking for some help on the left flank for their team. The Tampa Bay Lightning have been in contact with several teams and they have scouted some players in the past few days, reported the source. Tampa Bay Lightning management refused to comment the rumors. I'm gonna send a scout down there, because if they can offer me a good deal, Geoff Sanderson might be out the door for Rick Nash to play exclusively on the first line. Let's see where this goes. September 24th - Home game (AGAIN) against Washington (AGAIN) Washington (1-5-0-0) @ Columbus (4-2-0-0) Game Recap: Washington needs help. Its as simple as that, we outshot them 43-13 and walked away with an easy 4-1 win. Pascal Leclaire came into net and played a solid game, showing why he will soon be the starting goalie for this team. Goals from Marchant, Cassels, Sydor, and Klesla offset a goal by Daininus Zubrus and a Captials team that showed no effort or heart and most players with ratings at 5. Rick Nash showed his setup abilities with 2 assists, and Darryl Sydor needed to beat someone up to get the Gordie Howe hat trick. Columbus 4, Washington 1 September 25th - Derrick Walser frustrated Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Derrick Walser feels frustrated about his position in the organization. He feels he's good enough to be a regular player for the team and wonders why the organization still considers him a minor league player. A native of Canada, Derrick Walser, was originally signed as a free agent to the NHL. He has appeared in 57 NHL games during his career, notching 5 goals and adding 13 assists along with 34 penalty minutes. The 25 year old defenseman has played 2 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets this season, totalling 0+0=0 with 0 PIM. What's frustrating is his lack of talent, as he just played in the last game, and gave us a nice big fat 5, the worst on the team. If you're gonna go to the media and say that you feel you're a regular, then SHOW IT!!!! End of story. In other news, Carolina Hurricanes traded center Josef Vasicek and right wing Pascal Morency to Nashville Predators for right wing Scottie Upshall and NAS 4th round pick in 2005 draft Scottie Upshall would have been a bear to play against in a few years, I'm glad he's out of the division now. Next Update: In a little bit, I will sim the last game of the preseason and go through my final roster after I decide it |

September 27th - The rumor mill really makes me laugh sometimes:
Pittsburgh Penguins are rumoured to be planning a trade sending center Michal Sivek and center Ben Eaves to Los Angeles Kings for left wing Martin Straka and LA 5th round pick in 2005 draft Rumours from various sources around the league say that the Pittsburgh Penguins are looking for a 1st line left wing and that Martin Straka would be a good fit there. Do the Pens think that 3rd time's the charm with Straka, he's already had 2 stints with the club? Onto the final game (AWAY!!): Columbus (5-2-0-0) @ Chicago (2-3-0-2) Game Recap: A stinker of a game, but with a bright start. Nikolai Zherdev and Rick Nash start the game off with goals to put the Jackets up 2-0. However, Freddy Brathwaite really tanked in the 2nd, giving up 4 goals, with the 5th coming early in the 3rd. David Ling gets a goal for the CBJ's to make the final score a little more respectable. Derrick Walser puts up a 4 rating this time, I've had it with this kid, he's not making the big club. Winger Andrej Nedorost and Brathwaite both stink up the joint tonight, hurting Nedorost's chances of making the club and for Brathwaite.....he's gonna get less starts this year to rest Denis. Chicago 5, Columbus 3 September 29th - Waiver Draft Day: Here's who's unprotected from Columbus: C Lasse Pirejta D Jamie Pushor C Mark Hartigan L Hannes Hyvonen D Derrick Walser Other minor league guys The biggest name out there is Manny Legace, but doesn't get picked up. Here are the claims: 29-9-2003 Atlanta Thrashers claimed Dan LaCouture(NYR) in waiverdraft. 29-9-2003 Minnesota Wild claimed Brian Gionta(NJ) in waiverdraft. 29-9-2003 Columbus Blue Jackets claimed Marian Cisar(NAS) in waiverdraft. 29-9-2003 Toronto Maple Leafs claimed Boris Mironov(NYR) in waiverdraft. 29-9-2003 Philadelphia Flyers claimed Niclas Wallin(CAR) in waiverdraft. 29-9-2003 Philadelphia Flyers claimed Andy McDonald(DET) in waiverdraft. We make a selection with our third choice and pick up RW Marian Cisar (anyone have any real life info on him?) from Nashville, who could come out and play on our third line, and we unprotect David Ling. We also return our juniors that aren't under a contract, the only big name is D Dmitri Kosmachev, but I think another year in juniors will help him for next season. October 2nd - 23-man Roster Day: The 2003-2004 Columbus Blue Jackets: LW Geoff Sanderson LW Rick Nash LW Manny Malhotra (I had to get him on this team, so I moved him to LW) LW Jody Shelley C Todd Marchant C Andrew Cassels C Espen Knutsen C Tyler Wright C Lasse Pirjeta RW David Vyborny (IR) RW Nikolai Zherdev RW Trevor Letowski RW Marian Cisar RW Andrej Nedorost D Luke Richardson (IR) D Darryl Sydor D Rostislav Klesla D Scott Lachance D Jaroslav Spacek D Anders Eriksson D Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre D Alexander Gusjkov G Marc Denis G Fred Brathwaite A couple of tough decisions here, with the toughest being sending Dan Fritsche back to juniors for the season, but we have so much talent down the middle, that I couldn't see him beating out Espen Knutsen for the 3rd line center, plus he'll get more experience in juniors. The other tough decision was on the D-man to keep. If EHM would have let be know when I had to sign my prospects by, Kosmachev would have made the team, but I like the group that I have now. If this team doesn't play well, look for a couple of trades to be made, mostly up the middle, the D-Men or Brathwaite. I'll try to get back to this later tonight, but I can't guarantee anything. Keep the suggestions coming!! |

October 4th - ATL-ANA trade
Atlanta Thrashers traded defenseman Frantisek Kaberle to Anaheim Mighty Ducks for center Vaclav Prospal and center Nick Smith A native of Czech, Vaclav Prospal was originally drafted to the NHL by the Ottawa Senators in the 3rd round of the 1993 entry draft. He has appeared in 467 NHL games during his career, notching 88 goals and adding 206 assists along with 236 penalty minutes. The 28 year old center looks to stay a member of the team for a long time. A native of Czech, Frantisek Kaberle was originally drafted to the NHL by the Los Angeles Kings in the 3rd round of the 1999 entry draft. He has appeared in 242 NHL games during his career, notching 17 goals and adding 65 assists along with 84 penalty minutes. The 29 year old defenseman looks to stay a member of the team for a long time. October 7th - Its Game Time!!! Game 1: Chicago (0-1-0-0) - 0 pts @ Columbus (0-0-0-0) - 0 pts The Lines: Nash-Cassels-Letowski Sanderson-Marchant-Zherdev Malhotra-Knutsen-Cisar Shelley-Wright-Ling Klesla-Lachance Sydor-Spacek Grand-Pierre-Gusjkov Denis Box Score: Code:
What a great start for our Blue Jackets, as we come out early, with the youngster Zherdev getting a goal, along with Marchant, Cassels and Letowski . Marc Denis plays another terrific game and I was thrilled at everyone's performance tonight, except Manny Malhotra, who made the news: League suspends Manny Malhotra The league board has suspended Columbus Blue Jackets player Manny Malhotra for 10 games for injuring Stephane Robidas of Chicago Blackhawks This will result in a call up, as we only have 3 LW on the roster. But, I can't get upset after a nice victory. October 9th - LW Mike Pandolfo gets the callup and slots in the 3rd line. Game 2: Los Angeles (1-1-0-0) - 2 pts @ Columbus (1-0-0-0) - 2 pts The Lines: Nash-Cassels-Letowski Sanderson-Marchant-Zherdev Pandolfo-Knutsen-Cisar Shelley-Wright-Ling Klesla-Lachance Sydor-Spacek Grand-Pierre-Eriksson Denis Box Score: Code:
Well, I thought we couldn't play much better than we did in our first game, but I was wrong. A total team effort and a team that looks like it can compete for a playoff spot. Marc Denis plays an even better game, posting a shutout and Geoff Sanderson scored twice, along with rookie Nikolai Zherdev, who gets his 2nd of the campaign. Let's see if we can keep this going at Calgary in 3 days. On the farm, Pascal Leclaire looks good again, posting another win for the Crunch. Well, that will be it for a couple of days, I will try to get to this some tomorrow night, but it won't be likely, as Monday looks like a better possibility. |

Let's get a couple games in late this evening!
October 10th - Good news! David Vyborny resumes light training. Columbus Blue Jackets right wing David Vyborny has resumed light training after his thigh injury and is listed day to day. This will be a nice boost for the team, and help get a little more depth back to the side that needs it. October 12th - Game @ Calgary Columbus (2-0-0-0) 4 pts @ Calgary (2-0-0-0) 4 pts The Lines: Nash-Cassels-Letowski Sanderson-Marchant-Zherdev Pandolfo-Knutsen-Cisar Shelley-Wright-Ling Klesla-Lachance Sydor-Spacek Grand-Pierre-Eriksson Denis As you notice, this is staying the same as the last game, hoping to keep up the good luck. Box Score: Code:
Ugly, ugly game as we fall 3-2 to Calgary. The team didn't seem to play well on the PK as it ended up costing the Jackets the game, as the last 2 goals for Calgary came with them having the man advantage. Sanderson comes up with another goal, and Rick Nash added his first of the season, but the defense and Denis played average games, which isn't enough to win games on the road. Hopefully, we can rebound in a couple of days. October 14th - On the road @ Vancouver Columbus (2-1-0-0) 4 pts @ Vancouver (1-2-0-1) 3 pts The Lines: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev Sanderson-Marchant-Letowski Pandolfo-Knutsen-Cisar Shelley-Pirejta-Nedorost Klesla-Lachance Sydor-Spacek Grand-Pierre-Eriksson Denis I thought that Zherdev deserved to be on the top line for tonight, plus Letowski hasn't been playing well, and was also demoted to 2nd line of PK. The 4th line has changed some as well, because I thought Wright and Ling could be playing a little better. Also, Denis has been playing excellent, so I'm giving him another game in the net. Box Score: Code:
I knew that this team had to come out strong to win, and what a finish to the game!!! Nash nets the game winner with 22 seconds left into the game and plays a spetacular game along with Zherdev, so I like having them together on the same line. 3 goals came from that line, with Cassels scoring the other. For the next update, I'll go into some more detail with the roster and stats, along with a couple more games |

October 15th- Back to back road games
Game 5: Columbus (3-1-0-0) 6 pts @ Chicago (0-3-0-1) 1 pt Game Notes: Freddy Brathwaite will get the start in tonight's hockey game, getting his first start of the season. I don't know what to expect tonight, but I'm hoping that we can at least get a point here on the road. I'm predicting a 3-3 hockey game. The Lines: The Lines: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev Sanderson-Marchant-Letowski Pandolfo-Knutsen-Cisar Shelley-Pirejta-Nedorost Klesla-Lachance Sydor-Spacek Grand-Pierre-Eriksson Brathwaite Box Score: Code:
Wow, these boys are surprising me very much. It just seems like the team plays solid every night, and there are a couple that step up and win the game for us. Tonight, it was Espen Knutsen, and Fred Brathwaite. Knutsen, centering 2 inexperienced forwards, had a great game, scoring his first of the season and Brathwaite shut out the Blackhawks the last 2 periods of the game, which was huge. Also, here's a newsbyte I received: Andrew Cassels reaches a milestone ! Andrew Cassels scored the 700th point of his career in tonight's game against the Chicago Blackhawks on a goal by Nikolai Zherdev. It is just part of my job, he said after the game.. A native of Canada, Andrew Cassels was originally drafted to the NHL by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1st round of the 1987 entry draft. He has appeared in 930 NHL games during his career, notching 196 goals and adding 504 assists along with 370 penalty minutes. The 34 year old center has played 4 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets this season, totalling 2+4=6 with 0 PIM. This stuff really makes this game excellent, and makes me excited for the new verison coming out soon. October 16th- Good news for the Blue Jackets!! David Vyborny resumes full training. Columbus Blue Jackets right wing David Vyborny has resumed full training after his thigh injury. This resulted in Andrej Nedorost being sent down to Syracuse. Nedorost scored a goal in 2 games with the big club, but will now play for the Crunch. We also call up D Jamie Pushor. For Syracuse, Pushor didn't register a point in 5 games, but was a +4 for the team. To that, we sent down D Alexander Gusjkov, who only played in one game for the Jackets. Vyborny still gives me a puzzle here, as he's a great player, but youngster Zherdev has played brilliantly, in the top 10 in the league in points. I think Vyborny will start out on the 2nd line, and we'll go from there. On the injury front, D Luke Richardson is still a couple weeks away from being healthy. October 18th - A home game v. the Canucks Game 6: Vancouver (1-4-0-1) 3 pt @ Columbus (4-1-0-0) 8 pts Game Notes: Marc Denis will be back in the net tonight, with David Vyborny returning to the lineup as well. The lines will switch up some tonight, a dangerous chance, but one I think will be a good thing for this team. I'm hoping for effort tonight to keep the winning streak going. The Lines: The Lines: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny Pandolfo-Pirejta-Letowski Shelley-Wright-Ling Klesla-Lachance Sydor-Spacek Grand-Pierre-Pushor Denis Box Score: Code:
Ugh, ugh, ugh. Maybe i jinxed my team when talking about effort, or maybe it was because I messed with something that worked, but this game was just awful. We have the young guys that come to play every night, but I need those veterans to step up as well. Klesla proves again his excellent skills, and Zherdev and Nash both register 2 point games, but the average game from everyone else, including Denis' worst game this season, and some lucky breaks for Vancouver, results in a 3-2 loss. You see those guys who scored points for Syracuse, I think I'll call up all three guys and see what I can get from them, because their play this year in Syracuse (and Nedorost in Columbus) results in them earning some time with the Jackets. I've got the html output for the stats, so it would be easier to see, but they don't paste well in here, and I can't get Geocities to come up, which is where I was going to put them, but once I get it to work, I'll get the stats up then. I'm not sure how much time I'll have this week to get back to this, but I'll try to find a few minutes here and then for this week. |

October 20th - Well, I promised a couple of changes to the team and that's what happened. First of all, I called up C Mark Hartigan, who is the best player on the Crunch roster, and sent down C Lasse Pirejta, as he was the only one who could be sent down without having to clear waivers. Then, I called up LW Hannes Hyvonen, who has played well with Hartigan in Syrcause. To do that, I sent RW David Ling down, as he hasn't gave us a solid game yet this season.
The big news is that I've put Tyler Wright up on the trade block, as I know he can play better, and with 6 centers deserving to be on the roster, maybe a change of scenery can help him. I'm going to wait a week or so before I go pursue a deal, waiting to see what offers come in. I'm not expecting to get much, maybe a middle of the road draft pick, but we shall see. October 21st - On the road against the Pens Game 7: Columbus (4-2-0-0) 8 pts @ Pittsburgh (2-4-0-0) 4 pts Game Notes: We need to rebound tonight, and you can't ask for a better chance on the road than at Pittsburgh. This team needs to step up and play, as I'm hoping for this third line to play well for me, like they've done in Syracuse. I've made some changes to the PP and the PK, as far as lines, I'll go into them down in the next section. Tyler Wright is scratched for the night, I'm still wondering if he'll respond to being listed as 'trade bait'. Both Hartigan and Hyvonen find themselves in the lineup tonight, and I hope to find something good from them together. I really think we can win tonight. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Lachance Line 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny-Sydor-Pushor Line 3: Hyvonen-Hartigan-Letowski-Spacek-Eriksson Line 4: Shelley-Knutsen-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Marchant PP 2: Sanderson-Knutsen-Vyborny-Sydor-Spacek PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Klesla-Sydor PK 2: Cassels-Sanderson-Spacek-Pushor Denis Box Score: Code:
This is a game I would like to forget, but I won't for a while. This really frustrates me, as the team didn't come out to play at all, with this easily being the worst game of the season. Every team is going to have these games, so we'll chalk it up to that. Its bad when Jody Shelley is your best player out on the ice, we'll leave it at that. October 22nd - Happy to be back home, happy to play again after last night, and happy to play the rival Nashville Predators Game 8: Nashville (3-3-1-1) 8 pts @ Columbus (4-3-0-0) 8 pts Game Notes: This is a must win game, there's nothing else to it. Everything will be the same, except Brathwaite will get the start in goal. I'm hoping the rest of the team will click The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Lachance Line 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny-Sydor-Pushor Line 3: Hyvonen-Hartigan-Letowski-Spacek-Eriksson Line 4: Shelley-Knutsen-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Marchant PP 2: Sanderson-Knutsen-Vyborny-Sydor-Spacek PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Klesla-Sydor PK 2: Cassels-Sanderson-Spacek-Pushor Brathwaite Box Score: Code:
Well, we came out with a great start, with goals by Sanderson, Zherdev and Mark Hartigan, but then completely lost it all with 3 unanswered goals by Nashville to play to a 3-3 tie. Brathwaite could have played a better game, because we just need to win these games early on in the season. I was impressed with Mark Hartigan's performance, but Trevor Letowski has let me down again. Let's see how we do in the next game. October 25th - Home game against San Jose Game 9: San Jose (4-2-1-0) 9 pts @ Columbus (4-3-1-0) 9 pts Game Notes: Tyler Wright will make his way back into the lineup, along with Jean-Luc Grand Pierre. David Vyborny and Zherdev will be switching spots on the first 2 lines, trying to find the right combos. Denis will be back into the net. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Cassels-Vyborny-Klesla-Lachance Line 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Zherdev-Sydor-Pushor Line 3: Pandolfo-Hartigan-Letowski-Spacek-Grand-Pierre Line 4: Shelley-Wright-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Marchant PP 2: Sanderson-Knutsen-Vyborny-Sydor-Spacek PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Klesla-Sydor PK 2: Cassels-Wright-Spacek-Pushor Denis Box Score: Code:
It was a nice relief to see us win a game, and what an effort by Nikolai Zherdev!!! Zherdev gets a natural hat trick, and scores another in the 3rd period to win this game for Columbus. He seemed comfortable on the line with Sanderson and Marchant, so I'm happy with that change, but still played well with Cassels and Nash on the PP. This was a great game, and a lot of guys tonight didn't want to want to lose. Let's hope we can build on this. Updated stats have been posted |

Good work... surprised how much success Nash has had passing the puck thus far.

Yeah, I am too, but he isn't as bad of a passer as his stats have indicated in real life this year. He just hasn't had anyone around him to finish, as I've seen many games where he could have easily had an assist if (insert center here) didn't miss a pretty easy shot. I'm not saying he's a great passer, because at one point this year, he was 30-6 in goals to assists, but in the past few games or so, he's been averaging an assist a night, so it seems he's willing to work more on that part of his game. I guess, in this game, I'm much more surprised about Zherdev, who might be the most exciting player to watch in person because you never know what he will do. But in this game, as a rookie, he is in the top 5 in points with superstars. It will be interesting to see if he cools off soon and if so, I'm hoping a couple guys (Vyborny, Sanderson) can pick their games up. |

Well, I lost this update as I was getting ready to post it, so here's the box score from our game at Nashville.
Code:
Then, we made a move: Columbus Blue Jackets traded Tyler Wright to New York Islanders for Sean Bergenheim and NYI's round 5 pick in 2004 A native of Canada, Tyler Wright was originally drafted to the NHL by the Edmonton Oilers in the 1st round of the 1991 entry draft. He has appeared in 509 NHL games during his career, notching 68 goals and adding 55 assists along with 740 penalty minutes. The 30 year old center has played 7 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets this season, totalling 0+0=0 with 0 PIM. And then, on the 31st, we played at home against LA. Code:
Sorry for the fast update here, I didn't have anytime to rewrite these. |

Turner, I was wondering what league settings you're using? I wanted to get back into playing the game, and wanted the most realistic modern statistical settings.
Thanks, Mike R |

November 1st - Some bad and good news for the team and some big news in the league.
Rostislav Klesla injured. Rostislav Klesla (CBS) suffered leg injury during the game in an incident with Ryan Flinn (LA). He is expected to be sidelined for a couple of days. They just want to be careful after what happened to me last time. I'll dress for tomorrows practice, then it's up to the coaching staff, he said when he was taken off the ice. - He won't be able to go tonight, and Richardson still isn't ready, so we're losing a little depth on the blueline. Rookie of the month: Nikolai Zherdev (R) NHL has awarded Nikolai Zherdev (R) of Columbus Blue Jackets as Rookie Of The Month He registered 8 goals and 8 assists for 16 points in 12 games last month. He also had 1 game winning goal. A native of Russia, Nikolai Zherdev was originally drafted to the NHL by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 1st round of the 2003 entry draft. He has appeared in 12 NHL games during his career, notching 8 goals and adding 8 assists along with 12 penalty minutes. The 19 year old right wing has played 12 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets this season, totalling 8+8=16 with 12 PIM. - He's had a great start to the year, let's see if he keeps it up. Buffalo Sabres traded goaltender Mika Noronen, center Paul Gaustad and goaltender Jeff Weber to Vancouver Canucks for defenseman Mattias Öhlund A native of Sweden, Mattias Öhlund was originally drafted to the NHL by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1st round of the 1994 entry draft. He has appeared in 410 NHL games during his career, notching 41 goals and adding 146 assists along with 329 penalty minutes. The 27 year old defenseman has played 12 games with the Vancouver Canucks this season, totalling 1+8=9 with 2 PIM. A native of Finland, Mika Noronen was originally drafted to the NHL by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1st round of the 1997 entry draft. He has appeared in 28 NHL games during his career, booking 1 career shutouts and allowing 64 goals. The 24 year old goaltender has not yet played for the Buffalo Sabres this season. He has played 7 games with the Rochester Americans this season, totalling 0+0=0 with 0 PIM. - I don't know what to make of this trade, honestly. The Canucks have gotten off to a great start, and the Sabres are a little down. I'm gonna have to give the trade to the Sabres, because Vancouver already has a couple of good goalies in Dan Cloutier and Hedberg. We'll see how this turns out for both teams. And tonight, we're on the road at Dallas Game 13: Columbus (6-5-0-1) 13 pts @ Dallas (7-2-2-1) 17 pts Game Notes: Wow, you can't ask for a tougher game on the road when you're in a slump. With Klesla out and Richardson not back yet, I'm expecting a big loss tonight, something like 5-2. I hope these guys really prove me wrong. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Cassels-Vyborny-Sydor-Lachance Line 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Zherdev-Spacek-Pushor Line 3: Malhotra-Knutsen-Letowski-Eriksson-Grand Pierre Line 4: Shelley-Hartigan-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Sydor-Marchant PP 2: Sanderson-Hartigan-Vyborny-Knutsen-Spacek PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Pushor-Sydor PK 2: Cassels-Malhotra-Spacek-Grand Pierre Denis Box Score: Code:
Sydor wins it in OT against his former team!! What a big win for our team as we beat the best team in the league at their own place. We got a lot of solid games from our guys, especially our 3rd liners, something we needed on the road. Also, it helped that their guys didn't play a good game, with less than stellar goaltending by former Blue Jacket Ron Tugnutt. I hope we can carry this momentum into our next game. November 4th - We get another game on the road, this time we are at Ottawa, the 3rd best team in the Eastern Conference Game 14: Columbus (7-5-0-1) 15 pts @ Ottawa (7-3-1-1) 16 pts Game Notes: We get another tough road game, so I don't know how my team will respond, but I just hope to get a point out of this game. We get Luke Richardson back on the D-line. This is his first game of the season, and I hope that his stellar defensive play will help this team out even more. Because of this, we get a couple of changes to the defense, with Pushor being scratched, but no changes to the forwards. I'm rooting for a 3-3 tie. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Cassels-Vyborny-Sydor-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Zherdev-Spacek-Grand Pierre Line 3: Malhotra-Knutsen-Letowski-Eriksson-Lachance Line 4: Shelley-Hartigan-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Sydor-Marchant PP 2: Sanderson-Hartigan-Vyborny-Knutsen-Spacek PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Richardson-Sydor PK 2: Cassels-Malhotra-Spacek-Lachance Denis Box Score: Code:
Well, we played a so-so game, and you can't do that on the road against a great team. Our first line didn't impress me at all, and maybe I'll make some changes on it, getting Zherdev back on the first line, or swtching centers, or something to help it out. Also, with Klesla coming back, we'll have an extra defenseman who will end up being sent down to Syracuse, I'll take some time to see who I feel deserves it, and who can be sent down without having to clear waivers. November 5th - We make a couple of changes to the roster and the lineup. First of all, we send D Anders Eriksson and LW Hannes Hyvonen down to Syracuse, and call up RW Andrej Nedorost. Then, we move both Marchant and Zherdev up to the first line with Nash, sending Cassels and Vyborny to the 2nd line. Also, we put in Nedorost for Cisar, and we scratch Grand Pierre for the evening. We get Edmonton at home, a game I feel we have a good shot at winning, and one I would love to have. We're gonna put Fred Brathwaite in the net in the hopes that he'll bring a good game, giving Denis a needed rest. Let's see what the game brings Game 15: Edmonton (6-6-0-3) 15 pts @ Columbus (7-6-0-1) 15 pts Game Notes: I think I covered everything I want to in the first couple of sections. I see a 3-2 win for the good guys. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Vyborny-Sydor-Pushor Line 3: Malhotra-Knutsen-Letowski-Spacek-Lachance Line 4: Shelley-Hartigan-Nedorost PP 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Sydor-Klesla PP 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Vyborny-Spacek-Malhotra PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Richardson-Sydor PK 2: Cassels-Malhotra-Spacek-Lachance Brathwaite Box Score: Code:
Well, that didn't go too good, but I'll stick with the group of people that I have, because I think we have some potential here. I think Edmonton came in and played an excellent game, and we were just so close, but ended up just short. I'm ready to get deep into the season and see what these guys can do. The stats will be updated shortly and will be available at the links above |

I just stuck with the settings in the game, I'm not sure how accurate they will be, as I have a feeling that the scoring is going to be a little higher than it is now. I didn't know this game well enough when I started to accurately change the settings. I'm playing with the 1.16 version, if that helps any, but I just started with the default settings. |

November 6th - Well, 3 big pieces of news in the league today, with only one affecting us.
Martin St. Louis injured. Martin St. Louis (TB) suffered leg injury during the game in an incident with Bryan McCabe (ATL). He is expected to be sidelined for almost half a year. Give me a break please, I don't want to talk about my injury now, he said after the game in the dressing room. - He's had a pretty decent season so far, with 8 pts in 13 games, but its still not good to lose him for, most likely, the rest of the season. PHI-LA trade Philadelphia Flyers traded defenseman Nikita Korovkin, center Claude Lapointe and center Colin Fraser to Los Angeles Kings for right wing Zigmund Palffy A native of Slovakia, Zigmund Palffy was originally drafted to the NHL by the New York Islanders in the 2nd round of the 1991 entry draft. He has appeared in 623 NHL games during his career, notching 306 goals and adding 333 assists along with 300 penalty minutes. The 31 year old right wing has played 16 games with the Los Angeles Kings this season, totalling 4+5=9 with 2 PIM. A native of Canada, Claude Lapointe was originally drafted to the NHL by the Colorado Avalanche in the of the 1988 entry draft. He has appeared in 837 NHL games during his career, notching 122 goals and adding 175 assists along with 689 penalty minutes. The 35 year old center has not yet played for the Philadelphia Flyers this season. He has played 12 games with the Philadelphia Phantoms this season, totalling 2+7=9 with 10 PIM. - Hmmmm....another confusing trade here, I guess Philly was looking for a little more scoring punch on the RW, even though they already have Recchi, Kapanen, and Amonte. This leaves LA a little short on the wing now, but both Korovin and Fraser are both good prospects who have the chance to play in LA someday. Anders Eriksson claimed off waivers. St. Louis Blues claimed Anders Eriksson, who had been with Columbus Blue Jackets, off waivers. - I really didn't expect this one, I thought Eriksson would slide right through waivers with no problem, but now one of my rivals have picked him up. I'm not really worried about it, because he didn't impress me in his time here, but it will hurt to lose some depth at that position in case of more injuries. November 9th - We get a home game against San Jose Game 16: San Jose (6-5-2-0) 14 pts @ Columbus (7-7-0-1) 15 pts Game Notes: Tonight, we have Grand Pierre going in for Pushor and we have Cisar going in for Nedorost. Denis will stay in net, as we try to get a win to push us back above .500. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Vyborny-Sydor-Grand Pierre Line 3: Malhotra-Knutsen-Letowski-Spacek-Lachance Line 4: Shelley-Hartigan-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Sydor-Klesla PP 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Vyborny-Spacek-Malhotra PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Richardson-Sydor PK 2: Cassels-Malhotra-Spacek-Lachance Denis Box Score: Code:
An outstanding performance by our team, even with excellent goaltending by San Jose. Marchant steps up and gets 2 goals in the first period, then we play sound defense and have great goaltending to win the game 3-1. I was really happy with the team and how they played, this was a big win for us to get back above .500. November 11th - Another home game, this time against Anaheim Game 17: Anaheim (6-6-3-1) 16 pts @ Columbus (8-7-0-1) 17 pts Game Notes: Pushor goes back in for Grand Pierre, but we're keeing Cisar in the lineup, with Nedorost sitting out for another game. I might make another callup here by the next game or so, but I'm not sure who yet. Denis stays in net again tonight, he deserves it after his last game. Anaheim is another one of those teams that are right about at our level, and the more games we can win, the better. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Vyborny-Sydor-Pushor Line 3: Malhotra-Knutsen-Letowski-Spacek-Lachance Line 4: Shelley-Hartigan-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Sydor-Klesla PP 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Vyborny-Spacek-Malhotra PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Richardson-Sydor PK 2: Cassels-Malhotra-Spacek-Lachance Denis Box Score: Code:
Well, we faced another hot goalie and this time, we weren't as fortunate as we were the previous game. I thought Cisar's goal would be the final one, but Anaheim tied it up and went on to win the game. Our third line played very poorly, something that really surprised me. Maybe we can change a couple things up there, see if we can get something to make them play a little better. One thing, I'm thinking about calling up Pascal Leclaire to give him a taste of the action here. I'm not sure yet on the call, but he's played awesome in Syracuse, and deserves a shot. |

Great job so far...
Have you thought about balancing the lines a little bit? After your first two lines you've got only one guy who can do anything offensively (Knutsen). Maybe you could try moving Letowski to the 2nd line, and Vyborny down to the 3rd? Then maybe call up a LW to take Malhotra's place - it doesn't look like he's been doing anythign lately? Again, great job, I'm enjoying reading! ![]()

Thanks for the compliments!! Quote:
That's a good point you make, along with another good suggestion. The reason I haven't moved Letowski up, is that he's been playing worse than anyone on the team, according to his average rating. One thing I might look for now is a LW with some offense. I'd like to move Malhotra down to the fourth line and Shelley out. If Shelley fought like he does for the real Blue Jackets, I'd keep him, but it seems that he's just not doing his job well enough. The other problem about calling up a LW is that I have none down on the farm that can provide any better offense than Malhotra has. Hyvonen or Pandolfo are rated around where Malhotra is, but both play a far worse defensive game. I've already simmed the next game against Dallas, but I'll try a couple different things to get some offense on that third line. And Blade, go to: hxxp://www.fhockey.com and you'll find the game there |

November 14th - Home game against Dallas
Game 18: Dallas (8-3-3-1) 20 pts @ Columbus (8-8-0-1) 17 pts Game Notes: I don't recall the exact moves I made for this game, because I simmed it a couple days ago, but I know Denis is starting. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Vyborny-Sydor-Pushor Line 3: Malhotra-Knutsen-Nedorost-Spacek-Lachance Line 4: Shelley-Hartigan-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Sydor-Klesla PP 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Vyborny-Spacek-Malhotra PK 1: Marchant-???(I don't remember)-Richardson-Sydor PK 2: Cassels-Malhotra-Spacek-Lachance Denis Box Score: Code:
Rick Nash came to play tonight and won the game for us, along with a solid game by goaltender Marc Denis. Nash really helped out on the power play, with 1 goal and 2 assists, and then contributed to the other two Blue Jacket goals. We had a lot of outstanding games last night and our guys really deserved the victory. Another note, with his second shutout in a row, I think that Pascal Leclaire deserves a start with the Blue Jackets in his next game. November 16th - We have an away game up at Detroit Game 19: Columbus (9-8-0-1) 19 pts @ Detroit (9-5-2-1) 21 pts Game Notes: Pascal Leclaire will get the start tonight on the road against one of the best teams in the league. This might seem like I'm already conceding this game to the Wings, but I was planning on giving Denis the night off anyway, and I think that Pascal deserves a start after 2 straight shutouts. Tonight, we have Letowski on the 2nd line, Vyborny on the 3rd line, and Cisar scratched. We keep Grand Pierre scratched because we don't feel he deserves the shot moreso than our other D-men. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Letowski-Sydor-Pushor Line 3: Malhotra-Knutsen-Vyborny-Spacek-Lachance Line 4: Shelley-Hartigan-Nedorost PP 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Sydor-Klesla PP 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Vyborny-Spacek-Malhotra PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Richardson-Sydor PK 2: Cassels-Malhotra-Spacek-Lachance Leclaire Box Score: Code:
Unbelievable!!! Marchant scores on the PP in overtime against an awesome team such as the Red Wings. I was waiting for the comeback by Detroit, and they even took the lead in the middle of the 3rd period. However, Andrew Cassels had an awesome goal that tied up the game. We took advantage of the PP in overtime and Marchant scored his 2nd of the night to win. It was awesome to get Leclaire his first ever NHL victory, as he played a good game for being at Detroit for his first game. Luckily, our guys got the breaks tonight to win the game. |

November 17th - 2nd end of a back to back at home against Florida
But first, we made the headlines: Columbus Blue Jackets claimed Mariusz Czerkawski, who had been with New York Islanders, off waivers. This fell right into our lap, as we were looking for a LW who could bring some offense to that third line, and I think that Czerkawski can do this. He had 5 goals in 15 games with the Isles, and this will create a little competition between Malhotra and Shelley for some playing time. However, Czerkawski won't be able to be with the team in time for tonights game. Also, we sent Pascal Leclaire back down to Syracuse. Game 20: Florida (7-9-0-0) 14 pts @ Columbus (10-8-0-1) 21 pts Game Notes: Marc Denis will be back in net. Also, Jean-Luc Grand Pierre will be making his way back into the lineup, after playing very little the past few games, with Scotty Lachance scratched. We also stick with Nedorost on the 4th line, and Cisar scratched. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Letowski-Sydor-Pushor Line 3: Malhotra-Knutsen-Vyborny-Spacek-Grand Pierre Line 4: Shelley-Hartigan-Nedorost PP 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Sydor-Klesla PP 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Vyborny-Spacek-Malhotra PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Richardson-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Malhotra-Spacek-Sydor Denis Box Score: Code:
We get another big win here, not having a let down after that awesome game we played against the Red Wings the night before. Our first line seemed a little sluggish, so our 2nd line, with Sandy, Cassels and Letowski, tore up the Panthers and scored all 4 goals. This was nice to see, especially from Letowski, who seems to be playing a lot better with Cassels and Sanderson. Let's see if we can keep riding this winning streak, as this put us in first place in our division. November 19th - We get a home game against the best team in the league, the Colorado Avalanche. Game 21: Colorado (15-3-0-1) 31 pts @ Columbus (11-8-0-1) 23 pts Game Notes: Mariusz Czerkawski will make his debut tonight as a Columbus Blue Jacket, and will find himself on the 3rd line tonight. Marian Cisar will take Nedorost's place on the 4th line, and we will see Manny Malhotra scratched. We'll stick with the defensive pairings that we had for our last game and Marc Denis will play in net. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Letowski-Sydor-Pushor Line 3: Czerkawski-Knutsen-Vyborny-Spacek-Grand Pierre Line 4: Shelley-Hartigan-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Sydor-Klesla PP 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Vyborny-Spacek-Knutsen PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Richardson-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Vyborny-Spacek-Sydor Denis Box Score: Code:
We had some great chances to win this game, but we ultimately lost in overtime. We got a great goal from Nash and from Czerkawski, who scored on a breakaway goal in his first game with Columbus. I really think he'll be a solid pickup for us, one that didn't cost us any of our prospects. Marc Denis played a little of a down game, but he still helped us out some. It will be exciting to see what the next few weeks of hockey holds for this club. |

Well, I was happy how we played against Vancouver, but our PK fell apart against the Stars. I'll try to update again tonight, but I'm not sure. By the way, the stats have been updated at the page above. |

November 25th - We get a chance to redeem our last lost against Dallas tonight at home......against Dallas. We call up C Lasse Pirejta and send down C Mark Hartigan. Hartigan had started to stall out, and didn't bring anything too impressive to the table. I'm going to see if Pirejta can play a little better with a few games here. If not, I might try to take a little more of a risk and try a younger C from the organization, Brad Moran.
Game 24: Dallas (11-6-3-1) 26 pts @ Columbus (11-9-1-2) 25 pts Game Notes: Pirejta will center the 4th line, with Manny Malhotra staying at LW, instead of Shelley. Scott Lachance will be scratched for the evening and Jamie Pushor will be starting in his place. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Letowski-Sydor-Grand Pierre Line 3: Czerkawski-Knutsen-Vyborny-Spacek-Pushor Line 4: Malhotra-Pirejta-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Sydor-Klesla PP 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Vyborny-Spacek-Knutsen PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Richardson-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Knutsen-Grand Pierre-Sydor Denis Box Score: Code:
What an offensive output!! Nash and Sanderson both tally 2 goals for the game, and a streaking Letowski scores, along with David Vyborny. We're taking advantage of the PP and its really exciting. I'm very impressed with almost everyone's play this evening. LW Manny Malhotra keeps playing poorly, and look for Shelley to get some time in there. Also, I love having 7 solid defenseman, with Grand Pierre playing his best game of the year. In Syracuse news, Pascal Leclaire posts another shutout and Nedorost has all the scoring for the game. I'm very excited for the future of this organization. November 29th - Home game against New Jersey Game 25: New Jersey (13-6-2-2) 30 pts @ Columbus (12-9-1-2) 27 pts Game Notes: Jody Shelley gets the start tonight, Marc Denis stays in net, and Scott Lachance comes in for Jamie Pushor. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Letowski-Sydor-Grand Pierre Line 3: Czerkawski-Knutsen-Vyborny-Spacek-Lachance Line 4: Shelley-Pirejta-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Sydor-Klesla PP 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Vyborny-Spacek-Knutsen PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Richardson-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Knutsen-Grand Pierre-Sydor Denis Box Score: Code:
Wow, this was an unimpressive game. Our PK really needs some help, as I've tried different tactics, so I might change up some people to see if we can stop the PP. Czerkawski played another unimpressive game, along with Marian Cisar. I really need to make a move to get a great player, that can play on the PK. Its time to go looking for someone. |

Man, Pirjeta really, really tore up Syracuse. Guess he's still a year away, though.
Keep up the good work!

The downside to Pirjeta is that he's already 29, he was one of Doug MacLean's experiments, drafting overage Euros in the later rounds of the draft. He probably won't be with the team next season, as I hope that Danny Fritchse will be ready, but you never know. |

December 2nd- Home game against Washington
Game 26: Washington (13-8-0-2) 28 pts @ Columbus (12-10-1-2) 27 pts Game Notes: Brathwaite gets the start in net, and only a couple of changes, if I recall. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Letowski-Sydor-Lachance Line 3: Malhotra-Knutsen-Vyborny-Spacek-Grand Pierre Line 4: Shelley-Pirjeta-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Sydor-Klesla PP 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Vyborny-Spacek-Knutsen PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Richardson-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Vyborny-Spacek-Sydor Brathwaite Box Score: Code:
Not a good game at all, Brathwaite was a little rusty, but he got no help, again on the PK. I'm really doubting if I should go after someone just yet, because I'm not totally confident that this is a playoff team. I might just end up making a couple of moves as we get closer to the deadline. December 3rd - Back to back night at Chicago But first, Jean-Luc Grand Pierre got suspended for 9 games for injuring Mike Grier, so we call up D Paul Manning from Syracuse, who will be in the lineup tonight. Manning has 3 pts in 15 games for the Crunch, with a plus 4, and he'll go into the lineup for Scott Lachance. Game 27: Columbus (12-11-1-2) 27 pts @ Chicago (6-17-0-3) 15 pts Game Notes: Marc Denis will be in net tonight as the lines get changed up a good amount, mostly on the PP, but a couple of defensive changes as well. The scratches for tonight are Lachance and Malhotra. I'm interested to see how we can come out and play against a team I know that we're better than. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Klesla-Sydor Line 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Letowski-Spacek- Richardson Line 3: Czerkawski-Knutsen-Vyborny-Manning-Pushor Line 4: Shelley-Pirjeta-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Sydor-Klesla PP 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny-Spacek-Richardson PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Richardson-Klesla PK 2: Pirjeta-Knutsen-Pushor-Sydor Denis Box Score: Code:
Well, I'm happy that we got the win, even though we made it a little tougher than it needed to be. We got down in a nice hole early, and had to come back twice for the victory. However, I still think we can play better, so I'm going to tinker with the lines, along with some of the strategies. December 6th - I changed the lines a little bit, trying to get a little more defense on that top line, so I moved Zherdev down to the 2nd line, moving Vyborny up to the first and Letowski back down to the 3rd. That leaves the 3rd line a slight bit weaker on the offensive end than I would like, but that first line just got too bad in its own end. We play at home against Phoenix. Game 28: Phoenix (14-12-1-2) 31 pts @ Columbus (13-11-1-2) 29 pts Game Notes: Denis stays in net, Malhotra stays scratched and Pushor gets the scratch tonight. I think Manning deserved another start tonight, and he'll give this team a little needed spark from Syracuse. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Marchant-Vyborny-Klesla-Sydor Line 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Zherdev-Spacek-Richardson Line 3: Czerkawski-Knutsen-Letowski-Manning-Lachance Line 4: Shelley-Pirjeta-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Sydor-Klesla PP 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny-Spacek-Manning PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Richardson-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Knutsen-Lachance-Sydor Denis Box Score: Code:
Whew, we win another close game, thanks to some stellar play by that 2nd line (sans Sanderson). If we keep winning games like this, its going to make my life as a GM a lot more difficult. I really like the top 2 lines, but I'd like to see a little better play from my other 2, along with maybe another stellar defensman or 2. I might go look to send out a defenseman somewhere and bring in a pick that I could use to trade later. |

*******BREAKING NEWS********
Its 3 o'clock here on Sunday December 7th and we have some breaking news in from a source inside the Blue Jackets organization. Columbus Blue Jackets trade Columbus Blue Jackets traded Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre, Louis Mandeville and Ivan Tkachenko to Tampa Bay Lightning for Dan Boyle A native of Canada, Dan Boyle, was originally signed as a free agent to the NHL. He has appeared in 273 NHL games during his career, notching 30 goals and adding 96 assists along with 127 penalty minutes. The 27 year old defenseman has played 26 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning this season, totalling 2+12=14 with 6 PIM. A native of Canada, Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre was originally drafted to the NHL by the St. Louis Blues in the 7th round of the 1995 entry draft. He has appeared in 233 NHL games during his career, notching 5 goals and adding 16 assists along with 294 penalty minutes. The 26 year old defenseman has played 20 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets this season, totalling 1+5=6 with 35 PIM. This looks to be a big trade here for Columbus, as Grand Pierre never seemed to get on the good side of management, and everyone knew that GM Turner was actively seeking a solid defenseman. Dan Boyle brings a nice game to the Blue Jackets and should be able to help out on the PP and the PK, along with being on the 2nd line, most likely. He looks to be able to play well with Darryl Sydor or Jamie Pushor (according to the scouting report). Boyle is familiar with the area, having played his college hockey at Miami (OH) University, a little over an hour away from Columbus. Last edited by TurnerONU22 : 03-11-2004 at 02:23 PM. |

FWIW, I saw the Syracuse Crunch play last night (at the Albany River Rats).
Moran scored a nice goal, coming out of the penalty box he took a crisp pass and gained 2-3 steps on the defender who he was originally even with, then beat the goalie (who blows) over his left shoulder. In overtime, the Rats got a breakaway, but Steve Kariya couldn't finish, and with 20 seconds left, the Rats stood around. Syracuse brought it back the other way and the Rats had pretty much no one playing defense. A shot and rebound later, and the Crunch won with 6 seconds left. Pretty typical of Albany.

Yeah, I liked watching Moran when he came up this year for a few games when Cassels was hurt. They put him right onto the first line and he scored a nice goal in his first game on Brodeur. I'd like to see the Crunch play a game, they used to have a couple of games a year at Nationwide so the CBJ fans could see their young guys, but they didn't this year. I hope they restart that again next year. Also, what did you think of Leclaire in net? I was very impressed when he came up earlier this year for a couple of games, and I heard the game before the Albany game, he posted a 50-save shutout, and the Crunch got outshot 50-9 and still won 1-0. That's amazing. |

A quick game this morning
December 8th - Home game against Buffalo and Dan Boyle's debut!! Game 29: Buffalo (12-12-2-2) 28 pts @ Columbus (14-11-1-2) 31 pts Game Notes: Dan Boyle makes his debut tonight on the 2nd line, paired with Darryl Sydor, and also paired with Sydor on the PP and the PK. Spacek and Lachance are the scratches on the defensive end. Jody Shelley gets the scratch at LW. Marc Denis starts in net. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Marchant-Vyborny-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Zherdev-Sydor-Boyle Line 3: Czerkawski-Knutsen-Letowski-Pushor-Manning Line 4: Shelley-Pirjeta-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Sydor-Boyle PP 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny-Klesla-Manning PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Richardson-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Knutsen-Boyle-Sydor Denis Box Score: Code:
Wow, I thought we'd have this game in the bag, but we just came out a little flat tonight. The pairings and everything seemed to work well together, but we just got outplayed tonight, there's not much more you can say about it. I don't really think it was the changes I made, I think it was more of the team just not really playing their best game tonight. Oh well, lets hope we can get the next game. |

Laclaire didn't play all that great, I didn't think. The Rats got 40+ shots, but there weren't a lot of great shots. Basically, he didn't give up any bad goals, but on the same token, didn't bail Syracuse out at all either.

December 10th - Mike Keenan strikes again...
Ed Olczyk fired Pittsburgh Penguins have fired head coach Ed Olczyk in order to shake up the team and get it out of the losing streak. The team has announced that Mike Keenan will be taking over the position. How many teams does this make for Keenan now??? Back to the Jackets, we go on the road to Anaheim. Game 30: Columbus (14-12-1-2) 31 pts @ Anaheim (14-9-4-1) 33 pts Game Notes: We make some changes for the evening, sending Paul Manning down to Syracuse (for now) along with Jody Shelley, and call up C Brad Moran and RW Andrej Nedorost. I'm going to put them on the 3rd line and see how they can play with some more time than normal. Also, Freddy Brathwaite gets the start tonight in net. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Marchant-Vyborny-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Cassels-Zherdev-Sydor-Boyle Line 3: Czerkawski-Moran-Nedorost-Spacek-Lachance Line 4: Malhotra-Knutsen-Letowski PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Sydor-Boyle PP 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny-Klesla-Spacek PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Richardson-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Knutsen-Boyle-Sydor Brathwaite Box Score: Code:
Wow, we just got totally outplayed on the road and got steamrolled 5-1. Nobody really impressed me with their play, and I'm thinking about going back to the lines I had a couple of weeks ago, with Zherdev and Nash together. I'll make a decision come the next game. December 13th - We stay on the road and play Phoenix Game 31: Columbus (14-13-1-2) 31 pts @ Phoenix (14-14-1-3) 32 pts Game Notes: I scheduled an extra practice the day before, and I'm hoping that it helps give the guys a spark tonight. Not really much to note tonight, the scratches are the same, but Denis will start. I have made a few line changes, however, and we shall see how these work out. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Letowski-Sydor-Boyle Line 3: Czerkawski-Knutsen-Vyborny-Spacek-Lachance Line 4: Malhotra-Moran-Nedorost PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Sydor PP 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny-Boyle-Spacek PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Lachance-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Knutsen-Richardson-Sydor Denis Box Score: Code:
Um......is this my team? We scored not one, not two, but THREE shorthanded goals, and one of those during a 5-on-3. This is amazing, but it seemed like some changes actually worked, as I put Lachance out there on that PK 1 line, and told them to be agressive, because of their high endurance, and then I told the PK 2 line to be a little passive, because they don't have the endurance of PK 1. Well, it seemed to work very well. I'm not sure how well the screen and shoot strategy worked on PP 1, so I might change that back to what I had before. What a performance tonight!! |

December 13th - We find out Spacek will be out for a week, so we'll stick with the 6 healthy defensemen that we have. We're out at San Jose tonight.
Game 32: Columbus (15-13-1-2) 33 pts @ San Jose (11-14-2-0) 24 pts Game Notes: We make some changes for the evening, sending Paul Manning down to Syracuse (for now) along with Jody Shelley, and call up C Brad Moran and RW Andrej Nedorost. I'm going to put them on the 3rd line and see how they can play with some more time than normal. Also, Freddy Brathwaite gets the start tonight in net. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Letowski-Sydor-Boyle Line 3: Czerkawski-Knutsen-Vyborny-Pushor-Lachance Line 4: Malhotra-Moran-Nedorost PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Sydor PP 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny-Boyle-Pushor PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Lachance-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Knutsen-Richardson-Sydor Denis Box Score: Code:
A big win for the guys tonight, as we get 3 power play goals, and great special teams play and solid goaltending. Darryl Sydor played an outstanding game, with a goal and two assists, and Andrew Cassels had two goals and an assist. From the news section: Rostislav Klesla reaches career high ! Rostislav Klesla marked a new career high in assists with 15 assists after assisting in tonights game against San Jose Sharks on a goal by Andrew Cassels. It's a joy to be playing with these guys, they are the best teammates anyone could have, he said after the game in the dressing room. A native of Czech, Rostislav Klesla was originally drafted to the NHL by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 1st round of the 2000 entry draft. He has appeared in 184 NHL games during his career, notching 14 goals and adding 37 assists along with 175 penalty minutes. The 21 year old defenseman has played 29 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets this season, totalling 2+15=17 with 24 PIM. Rostislav Klesla reaches career high ! Rostislav Klesla marked a new career high in points with 17 after assisting in tonights game against San Jose Sharks on a goal by Andrew Cassels. I'm not out here to set records, but it's always nice to get the points, was his only comment for the media.. We played a great game, and seem to be on a roll. I think this team can get into the playoffs without having to sell out on the future. December 16th - Remember Derrick Walser, the one I complained about at the end of training camp? Well, he's been having a great season down in Syracuse and I feel that he can come up and contribute some for us, so we shall see if he is ready to play for us this time. We sent down both RW Andrej Nedorost and C Brad Moran to Syracuse. We're still on the road, at the Avalanche Game 33: Columbus (16-13-1-2) 35 pts @ Colorado (23-4-1-3) 50 pts Game Notes: Derrick Walser starts tonight for Jamie Pushor, Lasse Pirjeta and Marian Cisar find their ways back into the lineup and Freddy Brathwaite gets the start in net. Let's see if we can find a way to beat Colorado The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Letowski-Sydor-Boyle Line 3: Czerkawski-Knutsen-Vyborny-Walser-Lachance Line 4: Malhotra-Pirjeta-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Sydor PP 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny-Boyle-Walser PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Lachance-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Knutsen-Richardson-Sydor Brathwaite Box Score: Code:
Well, I guess Colorado showed why they are the best team in the league, as they completely shut down Nash and really exposed the lack of offense our team has. I didn't expect much from tonight and Brathwaite didn't stand on his head as we needed to have a chance in this game. I hope our guys take the positives out of this game and what they need to do better to have a chance at winning. |

December 18th - We stay on the road, at Montreal
Game 34: Columbus (16-14-1-2) 35 pts @ Montreal (12-16-3-2) 29 pts Game Notes: Pushor goes back in for Walser for the evening and Denis goes back into the net. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Letowski-Sydor-Boyle Line 3: Czerkawski-Knutsen-Vyborny-Pushor-Lachance Line 4: Malhotra-Pirjeta-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Sydor PP 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny-Boyle-Richardson PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Lachance-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Knutsen-Richardson-Sydor Denis Box Score: Code:
I'm glad I wasn't at that game, it looked ugly and I'm just happy to come away with a point after that game. I liked Denis' performance on the evening, and I think our guys kept trying and put a lot of effort into getting our point. Also: 18-12-2003 Rick Nash reaches career high ! Rick Nash marked a new career high in assists with 23 assists after assisting in tonights game against Montreal Canadiens on a goal by Nikolai Zherdev. You gotta' hand it to their team today, they came to play and made us work for everything we got, he said as he packed up his gear. A native of Canada, Rick Nash was originally drafted to the NHL by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 1st round of the 2002 entry draft. He has appeared in 107 NHL games during his career, notching 32 goals and adding 45 assists along with 104 penalty minutes. The 19 year old left wing has played 33 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets this season, totalling 15+23=38 with 26 PIM. Nash has been having a terrific season and looks to keep getting better and better, the future looks bright with the Rick and Nik show. December 21st - We get Spacek back for tonight, which means Walser gets sent back down to Syracuse. We're back to Nationwide Arena against Ottawa Game 35: Ottawa (17-9-2-4) 40 pts @ Columbus (16-14-1-3) 36 pts Game Notes: Spacek comes in for Walser. Other than that, nothing new. This is a boring section for now. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Letowski-Sydor-Boyle Line 3: Czerkawski-Knutsen-Vyborny-Spacek-Lachance Line 4: Malhotra-Pirjeta-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Sydor PP 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny-Boyle-Spacek PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Lachance-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Knutsen-Richardson-Sydor Denis Box Score: Code:
Ugh, Denis played a bad game and it really cost us tonight. We were right in the game and our team gave up 2 quick goals in the middle of the 3rd that put the nail in the coffin. Let's hope we can do something about this in our next game. More news: 21-12-2003 Geoff Sanderson reaches a milestone ! Geoff Sanderson scored the 600th point of his career in tonight's game against the Ottawa Senators on a goal by Trevor Letowski. My parents came to see this game so I just had to deliver, he said as camera flashes went off.. A native of Canada, Geoff Sanderson was originally drafted to the NHL by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2nd round of the 1990 entry draft. He has appeared in 882 NHL games during his career, notching 310 goals and adding 290 assists along with 361 penalty minutes. The 31 year old left wing has played 34 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets this season, totalling 10+14=24 with 6 PIM. December 23rd - We call up G Pascal Leclaire and LW Mike Pandolfo as we go on the road to face the NY Islanders. Game 36: Columbus (16-15-1-3) 36 pts @ NY Islanders (13-14-2-4) 32 pts Game Notes: Leclaire gets the start in net in a spur of the moment situation and Pandolfo comes in to play on the 3rd line. We'll be facing a former Blue Jacket as Tyler Wright centers their fourth line. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Letowski-Sydor-Boyle Line 3: Pandolfo-Knutsen-Vyborny-Spacek-Lachance Line 4: Malhotra-Pirjeta-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Sydor PP 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny-Boyle-Spacek PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Lachance-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Knutsen-Richardson-Sydor Leclaire Box Score: Code:
Only 35 more seconds and we would have had another point to add to our total, but they managed to score. I thought Leclaire did a good job tonight, and its good to get him some experience up here. Mike Pandolfo scored tonight and played very well, earning some more time up here on that 3rd line. Let's try again to see if we can get 2 points. December 26th - Hoping Christmas will recharge our batteries, as we go to St. Louis Game 37: Columbus (16-16-1-3) 36 pts @ St. Louis (10-16-3-2) 25 pts Game Notes: Brathwaite comes in net tonight, as he really needs to play again, and Denis can use the rest some more. Everything else remains the same. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Letowski-Sydor-Boyle Line 3: Pandolfo-Knutsen-Vyborny-Spacek-Lachance Line 4: Malhotra-Pirjeta-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Sydor PP 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny-Boyle-Spacek PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Lachance-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Knutsen-Richardson-Sydor Brathwaite Box Score: Code:
This is getting really frustrating.... Media criticises the Columbus Blue Jackets The Columbus Blue Jackets are spinning in a 5 game winless streak. Columbus Blue Jackets right wing Nikolai Zherdev commented about their recent play: It seems like everything is going wrong now. It's not the best of times for us right now... I don't know if its that I'm expecting too much out of this team and this is really their level of play, but I really think we have a playoff team right here. These next few weeks will tell. |

December 27th - Back to back tonight at Philly
Game 38: Columbus (16-17-1-3) 36 pts @ Philadelphia (19-10-2-3) 43 pts Game Notes: Denis starts tonight and Jamie Pushor comes in for Scott Lachance. Nothing else to say The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Letowski-Sydor-Boyle Line 3: Pandolfo-Knutsen-Vyborny-Spacek-Pushor Line 4: Malhotra-Pirjeta-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Sydor PP 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny-Boyle-Spacek PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Pushor-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Knutsen-Richardson-Sydor Denis Box Score: Code:
I'll take a point tonight, its a start, because we came from 2 goals down and then 1 goal down to tie the game up twice. It was nice to see Sanderson finally score a goal, because he really needed it and I hope it really gets him on a roll, as he is a streaky player. Denis played a great game as well, and helped us stay close and not let this game get out of hand. December 29th - We call up C Mark Hartigan and send down C Lasse Pirjeta, trying to mix some things up a little bit. Game 39: Carolina (14-12-1-7) 36 pts @ Columbus (16-17-1-4) 37 pts Game Notes: Marc Denis stays in net for the evening, with Hartigan going into the 4th line, and Lachance coming back into the lineup for Pushor. Czerkawski comes back in for Pandolfo for the evening on the 3rd line, and with that, those are the only changes for the evening. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Letowski-Sydor-Boyle Line 3: Czerkawski-Knutsen-Vyborny-Spacek-Lachance Line 4: Malhotra-Hartigan-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Cassels-Zherdev-Klesla-Sydor PP 2: Sanderson-Marchant-Vyborny-Boyle-Spacek PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Lachance-Klesla PK 2: Cassels-Knutsen-Richardson-Sydor Denis Box Score: Code:
Well, I thought we could really win this game and I thought we had it won at the end, but a late goal by Carolina (shorthanded!!) sent the game to overtime and then Carolina scores in OT to win. This is getting a little old and we find ourselves in the news again.. Media criticises the Columbus Blue Jackets The Columbus Blue Jackets are spinning in a 7 game winless streak. Columbus Blue Jackets right wing Trevor Letowski commented about their recent play: Things are not looking good for us but I think if we stay positive, we can climb out of this hole. We need some practice.....and a trade. |

December 31st - We get that trade done
CBS-BOS trade Columbus Blue Jackets traded Andrew Cassels to Boston Bruins for Mark Stuart and BOS's round 1 pick in 2004 A native of USA, Mark Stuart was originally drafted to the NHL by the Boston Bruins in the 1st round of the 2003 entry draft. He has not yet played at NHL level. The 19 year old defenseman has not yet played for the Boston Bruins this season. A native of Canada, Andrew Cassels was originally drafted to the NHL by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1st round of the 1987 entry draft. He has appeared in 965 NHL games during his career, notching 209 goals and adding 519 assists along with 386 penalty minutes. The 34 year old center has played 39 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets this season, totalling 15+19=34 with 16 PIM. I'm really happy with this deal, I think we definately got the better end of it. Cassels is an older center with a big salary, and we're getting a first round pick and a future NHL blueliner. This also gives the team the shakeup we're looking for. Nikita Alexeev claimed off waivers. Columbus Blue Jackets claimed Nikita Alexeev, who had been with Tampa Bay Lightning, off waivers. Another move I really like and is our third waiver pickup of the season, and I believe, will be our best. Alexeev is only 22 and our scouts are in love with him, and he should easily unseat Cisar and could even allow us to make another trade w/a right winger. We have a home game tonight w/ Philly Game 40: Philadelphia (20-10-2-4) 46 pts @ Columbus (16-17-2-4) 38 pts Game Notes: Alexeev isn't with the team yet, so he won't be in the lineup. We start Fred Brathwaite in net, hoping that he can win this game for us and Denis isn't 100%. The Cassels trade allows us to start Hartigan on the 3rd line and Pirjeta, who gets the callup, on the 4th line. We get Pandolfo back in the lineup and we keep Lachance in for Pushor. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Knutsen-Letowski-Sydor-Boyle Line 3: Pandolfo-Hartigan-Vyborny-Spacek-Lachance Line 4: Malhotra-Pirjeta-Cisar PP 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Klesla-Sydor PP 2: Sanderson-Knutsen-Vyborny-Boyle-Spacek PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Lachance-Klesla PK 2: Malhotra-Knutsen-Richardson-Sydor Brathwaite Box Score: Code:
Well, we're in a hole that we really can't get out of. We just need to get on a roll, and get some good playing from our goaltending (Brathwaite isn't doing well at all). Let's hope that the team will be ready for the next game, and hope that we can win. Good news: Rookie of the month: Nikolai Zherdev (R) NHL has awarded Nikolai Zherdev (R) of Columbus Blue Jackets as Rookie Of The Month He registered 5 goals and 9 assists for 14 points in 15 games last month. A native of Russia, Nikolai Zherdev was originally drafted to the NHL by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 1st round of the 2003 entry draft. He has appeared in 40 NHL games during his career, notching 16 goals and adding 26 assists along with 34 penalty minutes. The 19 year old right wing has played 40 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets this season, totalling 16+26=42 with 34 PIM. Zherdev is awesome for us, and the Rick and Nik show will be ready to go in a couple of years. January 1st - Ron Wilson fired San Jose Sharks have fired head coach Ron Wilson in order to shake up the team and get it out of the losing streak. The team has announced that Kevin Constantine will be taking over the position. January 2nd - Columbus Blue Jackets players selected to World Junior Championships World Junior Championships (U-20) in icehockey are about to start. The following players from Columbus Blue Jackets organization have been selected to represent their countries: -Sean Bergenheim (FIN) -Raffaele Sannitz (SUI) -Joakim Lindström (SWE) -Ole-Kristian Tollefsen (NOR) -Mark Stuart (USA) -Arsi Piispanen (FIN) I'm really happy to see these 6 in competition, but I think Danny Fritsche should have made it on the USA team. He's 28 goals, 28 assists in 30 games for Sarnia of the OHL, with a +39!! We have a home game tonight against Edmonton Game 41: Edmonton (19-17-1-4) 43 pts @ Columbus (16-18-2-4) 38 pts Game Notes: Alexeev will go on the 4th line for the evening, and we'll leave everything else in tact. Denis will start in net tonight. The Lines: LW-C-RW-LD-RD Line 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Klesla-Richardson Line 2: Sanderson-Knutsen-Letowski-Sydor-Boyle Line 3: Pandolfo-Hartigan-Vyborny-Spacek-Lachance Line 4: Malhotra-Pirjeta-Alexeev PP 1: Nash-Marchant-Zherdev-Klesla-Sydor PP 2: Sanderson-Knutsen-Vyborny-Boyle-Spacek PK 1: Marchant-Letowski-Lachance-Klesla PK 2: Malhotra-Knutsen-Richardson-Sydor Denis Box Score: Code:
Its about time!!!! My new pickup scores just under 4 minutes into the game, and Rick Nash scores 2 goals. Our offense just really played excellent tonight, and Denis played well enough to get our team the victory. We were due to win a game and now, I hope we can use this to try to get this team back into the playoffs. |
