Poll: What if Barry tested negative today?
With Damon Stoudamire being applauded for stepping up and taking a reporter's challenge for an on the spot drug test, calls have come out for Barry Bonds and other baseball to do the same. The justification being that this will prove whether or not they are clean. My question is will it really convince anybody that they had not used steriods in the past. Would it make the records of the last 15 years any more legit? IMO it will not. I listened to the Portland reporter who gave Stoudamire his test. He said all the test proved was on that day Stoudamire was clean for the 5 substances. Would it not be the same for Bonds? Now I am going on the assumption that the leading players in MLB would not be stupid enough to be caught using steriods at this point.

Bonds runs into trouble because he's already looks really guilty. First the allegations that have been flying for years because of his body and now the whole BALCO thing. I'm not sure he can prove his innocence right now because there's so much stacked against him. The only way most people would believe him is if there was a test that showed steroids in the blood for up to 5 years or something.

Actually need a third real option.
"I would believe that he has used steroids in the past, and is currently using them with a good masking agent."

All they need to do is measure the cubic acreage of his skull today verse the normal size of his skull as a rookie. The damn helmet barely fits on his head now. He's like Ken Griffey Jr. in that Simpsons episode. Look at his rookie card and a photo of him today. |

Another Bonds poll where none of the answers works for me. I'd say, "I would believe he is probably not using steriods now, but I have no idea either way if he used them before."
As to Andy Van Slyke, read Jim Leyland's reply.

I think my ideal poll question would have been "I definitely believe he is not using steriods now, am absolutely positive he and several other star players did use it in the past, but really couldn't care less as long as San Francisco does not win the World Series with him on the team."

It depends what he was taking, MrBug. For the most part, at least to my knowledge, any steroid or homone will pass out of testing range in a basebal off-season. They test for the metablites, not the steroid itself. The metabolites will remain longer than the cycle itself, but assuming he got fully clean, depending on the steroid, as little as 10 days for the metabolites to clear. |

What was Bonds et al connection to BALCO? In other words, why did they need to be connected?

Don't do it Barry. In 5 yrs Steroids will be nothing but a back page blurb as Mutants take over the league.
The hottest Mutant surgery going right no for batters is Laser eye surgery. After corrective Mutant eye surgery these ball players see at 20 feet what humans see at 15 feet. Average increase in batting Average is 34-45 points. Don't feel sorry for the pitchers because they are one cadavar away from equalling the playing field. By digging up a dead body and removing a knee ligamentand then having that knee ligament attached to the elbo, thus giving them 2 extra ligaments per joint they can see a 7-11 mph increase in their fastball. What is next....On to the animal Kingdom....Is a Gurilla really 10 time stronger than a human? Just how fast is a chetah? Are those eagle eyes or are you just happy to see me? Say hello to 800 foot homeruns and 150mph fastballs! Don't worry the animal/human hybrid mutants will eventually be replaced with bionics humanoids.

At least in Bonds' case, his personal trainer is one of the guys who has been charged (Greg Anderson), and he got his supplies (legal or not) from BALCO. Also, it has been reported that his name was one of 7 players identified to federal investigators as having been given steroids by Anderson/BALCO. I'm not sure what you mean by them "needing" to be connected, but I think at this point, all this does is give more substance to the conjecture that he has been doing something illegal, aside from pointing to the size of his noggin and his HR numbers.
