Lions sign WR-Streets?
Over at KFFL.com they are reporting the Lions and Tai Streets have agreed to a one year deal...
Haven't seen this on ESPN yet, just wanted to know if anyone else has heard this... Nice signing...esp. if the money is around 2 million...though I think we could still use another guy there, considering that our top 3 receivers are all VERY injury prone now--Rogers, Streets, Hakim... Kevin |

Tom Kowalski is reporting the Lions are targeting Garrison Hearst...if we signed him for two years, that wouldn't be bad... I've now even seen a few mock drafts that have the Lions selecting RB-Stephen Jackson at the 6th spot...which surprised me since most have him going in the late teens, early 20's... The Lions should be in a decent position to trade down from #6 eventually...the players available at that pick seem to have more appeal to other teams than the Lions...would love to see them get Jackson after trading down... Pretty good deal to get Streets, provides short-term benefit without the risk of a Schroeder or Hakim-like meltdown burning salary. I would have to say that the Lions really could not have done any better in free agency this year. Signing Staley would have been ok but I didn't really see that as a huge improvement for the money it would have cost. A good start to the 2004 season.

That being said, drafting a WR #3 overall last year and #6 overall this year woul be a LOT of money tied up in that position. Given the depth the WR position has in this years draft, I reckon the Lions would be ok to hold off and draft one in the 2nd or 3rd round. That said, these signings have given the Lions a little more flexibility in who they draft. They have a ton of needs, but there really isn't one HUGE glaring need that must be filled. |

My advice to the Lions: Trade down, and take either Jones or Jackson.

The Lions need to seriously consider taking a RB early...but that 6th pick just doesn't seem to be a good time to take one...yet I feel like Jackson and Jones are 1-2, and then Perry and the FSU guy come next, but I think there are questions with those two...
If the Lions don't get Jackson or Jones, I'd love to see us take Tatum Bell from OSU...not sure if he'd make sense in the 2nd, or if he'd be available with the 3rd though... As an offensive minded fan (yes I know you win with defense) wouldn't it be something to see the Lions (assuming they can't trade down) end up taking the best WR at #6 and the best RB in the 2nd? As much as I think Joey might be a good QB, if he can't produce with that talent, well, time to start thinking of alternatives...I really think he'll perform this year, but if he struggles again, people here are going to start calling for his head...hell, there are already a bunch of people who have fallen in love with McMahon...despite a complete lack of evidence at the college or pro level that he is more than just a good athlete with poor accuracy...at best... Best option of all is to trade down though... Kevin |
