FOF2004 Demo
I got FOF: TCY and have been playing it for 3-4 weeks, and decided I would give FOF2004 a whirl. I downloaded the demo, but have been unable to get it to work. I go to simulate an exhibition week, but it does not do anything. Eventually, after hitting several buttons, it crashes to the desktop.
Has anyone had this problem? Also, what are the minimum hardware requirements for the game? Could that be the problem? Needless to say, if I cannot get the demo to run, I am a little hesitant in buying the full fledged game if I cannot get it to run. |

I am not sure what the minimum specs are (they may be on the FAQ page). If no one here can help you, you can email support AT solecismic.com.
(replace AT with @). Hope you get it to work. |

For what it's worth, I had the same problem with the demo, but bought the game based on the feedback I'd read in this forum and haven't had any problems with the game through 30 or so seasons of play.

Yeah, the response I received from Solecismic was that they have heard of problems like mine, and most were caused by viruses or adware. If that was the problem it probably would not work.
Does anyone know what the minimum requirements for the game are? I can run TCY no problem and do not see why I should have any problems with this, but I am running Win98SE with a P3 667Mhz with 256MB ram. |

What operating systems and configurations does The College Years require? Windows '95/'98/Me/NT4/2000/XP are supported. You will need 64 Megabytes of RAM - that's pretty much a requirement. You should have at least a Pentium II processor. The game should run without incident on a less powerful CPU, but it will run very slowly. While Virtual PC on Mac computers seems to support the demo, the electronic licensing for the download version is incompatible with the OS9 and OSX operating systems. Otherwise, if you can run the demo without incident, you should have no problem running the retail version of the game. Please spend some time with the demo before purchasing to make sure it's a game you'll enjoy. |

Sounds like a full system scan is the next step. The slower of my 2 comps that I run it on is a P3 500/256 ram Windows XP.
I would also say that it's time for you to wipe your drive and start from scratch because you WILL want to play the game.

Cap Ologist,
I have TCY, and have been playing it for 3 weeks with no problems. I d/l'd the FOF2004 demo, and that is giving me problems. Checked the FAQ for info, and there is none geared specifically for FOF2004. Found the system requirements for TCY, which were quoted, but that is already running fine. Checked for both spyware and viruses, none found.... Ajaxab, What type of system are you running? Thanks for the help guys! |

OK, decided to buy the full game anyway (going to upgrade in another month or so).
Having the same problem, but I noticed something else. When you start the game, you have an email. However, when I click on the email icon, no email window appears. All of the other windows appear normally. When I go to sim games, the sim window pops up. I can preview games, and select games, but when I click simulate (any of the simulate buttons) nothing happens.... Any ideas? I am wondering if the two items are related. |

Something with your video settings or memory? possibly not but just a guess.
On slower computers, i notice that when i try to simulate weeks, the scores will scroll through and then when it gets to about the last 4 games it will stop. the simulation keeps going but the screen doesn't show the progress as fast. Kind of hard to explain after a night out but it does seem like this may be a similar situation. Does the hour glass hang, or does it just freeze? 1 last suggestion: If you can, try to unlicense the game and install it on another computer. You can always de-activate your license from the other machine.

I do not even get the hour glass to watch. I click on simulate, and nothing happens. I feel like the buttons are on one of my son's Fischer-Price toys, you feel good clicking it, but nothing happens. That is what I do not understand, it is like nothing happens when I click the button.
I also wonder if this is tied to the email window not appearing either. What I do not understand is that I can run TCY with no problems. Granted they are different games, but I would assume the basic engine is the same... How do I unlicense the game? I do not see any options for me to access the license, or get information about it. |

I'm running a PIII 600, 256 mb RAM and WIN 98 SE and haven't had any problems after the demo problem. I hope you can get this solved as playing the game will be worth it.

This setup is awfully close to what I am running, 667Mhz here though. How did you install the game? I am wondering if I have an installation error, or something. What items are running in the background, etc.? I am at my wit's end, and it really makes no sense to me why it is not running. |

Try turn off everything running in the System Tray (virus scanners and other processes in the background)

your elicense is either in your control panel or in your "my computer below all of the drives. You need to click on the folder to open it. Then, right click the FOF2004 license and chose "unlicense" or something similar. Then follow the instructions.
Questions... What version of TCY do you have? CD or download? Did you uninstall the demo of FOF2004 before you installed the regular game? Once you unlicense the FOF2004, I would try installing it again...after any demos are cleaned off. Good luck.

I have the download version of TCY.
Regarding the demo, I did not uninstall before installing the full version. I will go ahead and uninstall everything, and then re-install. I will look for the license and see if I can figure out how to unlicense it. Thanks for the help guys! I hope this works, I am dying to play this! |

Some random thoughts:
1) Could this be an OS problem? I am running Win98SE, and I believe others here are as well. 2) I tried starting with an allocation draft, and was unable to pull up the draft window. That makes two windows that I cannot pull up, and one with "Fischer-Price" buttons. 3) Could the installation be corrupted by software running in the background, such as joystick controller, V-card controller, etc. Should I try installing in safe mode? 4) What else am I missing? |

I'm at a loss as to what to try. Emailing Jim is probably the only thing left that you can do.
What video card are you running? Have you run Windows update? But really don't think anyone here is going to be able to help at this point. Solecismic support is the way to go.
