Wow. From the Yankees to the Cowboys.
Any word on when he plans to move on to the Lakers and Maple Leafs and complete the Quartet of Evil?

Nice. Carter, Hutchinson, and Henson. Any more baseball wash out QBs out there? Where's Wienke and Booty?
Any bets they take Mauck with their first round pick? ![]()

This is pretty much the death knell for Hutchinson, isn't it? First NFL Europe, and now signing another "project" QB?

Any team that spends as much on two goalies (Hasek and CuJo) as some franchises spend on their entire payroll definitely gets the edge for the Quartet of Evil.

Maple Leafs? Then the rest of your 'quartet' should be Baltimore Colts, Brooklyn Dodgers and Philadelphia Warriors. That would be the timeframe your talking about concerning past winners.

I'm hoping so. Hopefully they'll bring in Vinny to tutor Q and Henson and let Hutch go on his merry way. If they don't bring in Vinny, I really wonder about this deal. The last thing we need is three young, inexperienced QBs....

Lets not forget how inflated the Rangers payroll was. If they didn't suck you'd say they were worse then the Wings.

I kind of like it. Minimal investment based mostly on on-field performance. If he sucks, they haven't hurt themselves any worse than Toby Gowin.

While I agree (and I've followed this whole situation closely since draft day), it's not as great a deal as it seems. "Conventional" NFL logic says that a a draft pick this year is equal to a pick 1 round higher the next season (which is why you'll see almost 1 team a year trade the next year's first rounder for a 2nd round pick in that draft). By that measure: 6th rounder 2003 = 5th rounder 2004 = 4th rounder 2005. So the Texans basically got the value of moving a 4th rounder up to a 3rd rounder for all their effort. Tough to say it was really worth it, since we have no idea how much time was spent on this that could have been used elsewhere. |

I always thought that adage referred to the fact that you know where your pick is this year and have an idea on the talent versus where your pick will be the next year. I don't see a whole lot of teams trading a 6th rounder for a 3rd rounder 3 years down the road or a 4th rounder 2 years down the road. SI

Agreed. But you will see plenty of teams cut deals like this on draft day: 2005 4th rounder for 2004 6th rounder 2005 2nd rounder for 2004 3rd rounder 2005 6th rounder for 2004 7th rounder If a team *really* wanted to, i'm pretty confident they could turn a 7th round pick into a first rounder over the course of 7 years. |

Oh yeah, to post on topic. Henson and his UofM-abandoning ways can PISS OFF too. Four years of John Navarre. That's what Henson gave us. FOUR YEARS!
May your career be as successful as Chad Hutchinson's, Drew. |

So be it... LOSER! Man, it's Saturday night and we're sitting here swapping modified Star Wars lines about hockey on a bulletin board about a computer football game. Hmmm... Nice. Not sure what's more odd, that or the fact that I had dinner with two people (over the age of 23) who hadn't seen any of the Star Wars movies. One didn't know who "Chewbacca" was. |

It beats doing homework, that's for sure. And I'm not nearly the Stars Wars fan that a lot of people are, but these were some pretty famous quotes being tossed back and forth. But I think it's time I get back to homework rather than tossing hockey barbs and hattrick chat on the other board. Just an exciting Saturday night here as every teacher tries to cram a project and/or midterm down my throat the week before spring break. ![]() SI

I reckon I pretty much saw every snap Henson took during his brilliant college career. He definitely has the skills, it's the mental toughness I worry about. It will be interesting to see how his failure to play at the major league level at the sport he truly loved (baseball), will effect his play at his "second" sport. Not to mention the few years off. It will be interesting to see and another fun story to watch. |

Jerry is starting to field a better baseball team than Tom Hicks.
Just as a counterpoint, BJ Symons will most likely be drafted with only a season of college starts under his belt. I doubt it will be in the 3rd round, but somewhere in the middle to late rounds.

This is a good gamble for the Cowboys (as much as I dislike saying so)
Risking a future 3rd round pick for a guy who was going to be a 1st round QB two/three year ago and, even this year, would have been a 2nd rounder if eligible is a pretty efficient move by the Dallas Front Office. Ditto for the Texans, their own gamble last year, using a 6th rounder on Henson to make it a 3rd rounder two years later is pretty good. Now this will be fun to watch if Henson ends-up becoming Dallas' starter. Texans and Cowboys basically hate each other so it should be interesting to watch how Carr & Henson's careers evolve.

Although I tend to agree on this, I would say that this is applicable in the case the player is actually contributing on the field, and therefore becomes a "veteran" having playing experience and thus improving his skills and practical knowledge of the game. In the case of Henson and the Texans, GM Casserly never envisionned any playing time in Houston for him: it was a gamble plain and simple, with the sole purpose of "selling" him for better a year later, and it worked. (The Casserly gamble woud have failed if he had been unable to trade him and had to let him re-enter the Draft in April, there he would have indeed LOST a 6th round pick).
