OT: Need some computer help..

I'm running windows XP.. and today I started getting error reports that say something like "you do not have a paging file, or your paging file is not big enough." What the hell is a paging file, and how would I go about fixing something like this?

paging file is what used to be known as a swap file. it's space on your hard drive set aside that Windows uses when you are running short of memory.

you should be letting Windows adjust your pagefile automatically. this is off the top of my head, but should get you to the general spot...Start>control panel>system> you're looking for something like "performance options" or something along those lines, and when you find it, you want to check "let windows set size for page file" or something like that. you'll need to reboot for it to take effect.

if you are accessing your paging file a lot, you are slowing things down (writing to the hard drive is much slower than writing to memory) - you might want to throw some more RAM in the machine.
