Winning the Central Division: an OOTP5-6 Dynasty

With the release of CBL Cardinals EXCELLENT roster file, I fired up ootp5 and decided to see what I could do with the Cardinals in 2004 and beyond. Chicago and Houston are preseason favorites and most sportswriters have the Cardinals finishing third.

This is the first time in a long time I actually feel "challenged" starting with the Cardinals. It'll be quite fun to see how I compete in the Central Division.

I'm playing manage mode, normal difficulty setting. I don't have any house rules and I have trading set to hard and favor prospects. Maximum team cash is set to $50,000,000, no salary cap, and reduced ratings. I also have coaches and scouts set to "off" (players still improve, but every team is on an "even" keel).

In no way do I plan on a dynasty like Chief Rum or Skydog, I'm managing every game, so it will go slow and unless someone wants to see something specific, this dynasty will be pretty basic. (Sorry, I don't know how people like Marmel, SD, CR, AE, JonInMiddleGA, and many others create so immersive dynasties)

Note: If I win the Central, I'm not sure if I'll end it there or keep going. I thought about keeping it a 'replay' only one year career, but I wanted to keep my options open just in case. Trading was a hard option to keep on, for the simple fact I'm trying to reproduce this year, but it's probably more accurate this way. In baseball, it's impossible to know who will go where during the season. At least I started out with accurate rosters.

So Taguchi was sent down from the active roster to AAA Memphis. Ray Lankford was promoted from AAA Memphis to the active roster. Steve Cox has been released. Chris Widger has been released. Free agent Henry Blanco has been signed to a contract of $0 per year, for 0 years. Free agent Brian Buchanan has been signed to a contract of $336,000 per year, for 1 years.
