C'mon, we all *know* Bush is going to prance Osama out about a month before the election, so in order to make that ruse seem plausible, they had to let the #2 guy run around the mountains thinking he wasn't seen, so that we could capture him in enough time for people to believe that we got info out of him leading to Osama's capture in 4 months.

Anytime someone brings up torture as a way to get information out of people, it reminds me of a line from Resevoir Dogs.

i agree with half of that. i do believe we have a very good idea of Osama's location, but are a step or two away. with the rest of the world starting to get brave and think who they are now is not the time to sit on a valuable commodity such as Osama - if we know where he is it's in our best interests to capture him and renew global support or whatever is left of it. he should be caught before spring is over.

i don't think Bush would let him run around if he knew where he was. too risky for further tragedies. it doesn't make sense Bush would take all these black eyes and try to save face by "finding" Osama at the 11th hour.

I really didn't feel happy when they found Saddam. I was surprised, glad that was over with, etc but bottom line is, I felt in the bigger picture it was meaningless. What made it VERY meaningless was because Osama was still out there and it bothered me to see us beating our chests when our true enemy was still out there. I understood the emotion but I didn't feel any of it.

So, if they find Osama the level of emotion I'll feel compared to the Saddam capture will be like comparing a nuclear explosion to a sparkler and believe me, I really want to feel that emotion because sometimes I doubt I have it in me any more.

I certainly expect that we'll capture or kill Osama eventually, and hopefully that we'll find a lot of intelligence info that will let us bust up other terrorist cells. It would be a major victory in the war on terrorism, no doubt. But with the spread of terrorist plans, technology, and money throughout the world, there's no doubt in my mind that terrorist attacks will continue, other groups will form, etc.

Comparing Saddam to Hitler shows me a sad lack of historical perspective. There's really no comparison between the two. Its sad that people glibly throw out Hitler to emphasize their point no matter how irrelevant the comparison. I don't mean just you of course but this is a classic example.

Also, Saddam was an old man hiding in a hole. Osama is the billionaire mastermind of an organization that kills indiscriminately and without warning and poses the very real threat to strike again. We thought he wasn't shit after the first tower attack and let it slide. He proved us wrong; more than once since then.

Now, Saddam may well have ruled his hole with an iron fist but to say that he posed a threat to us in any real fashion any more would be stretching it almost as much as comparing him to Hitler.

In other words, your second comparison is invalid too. It could and may well have given us some nice intel but that's the only thing it did realistically and that's just not something to get too excited about when a rich madman, with a worldwide organization, who has cost the US more lives in the 21st century than Saddam, is still on the loose.

Maybe it's just me but I just wasn't that impressed when we got Saddam.
