C'mon! Fedex you bums!

So, I took today off. I had employee review paperwork early this morning, but then I had strategically set it up so that I would get CM 03/04 delivered. At 7:30 this morning is was on the delivery truck. It is now 1:30pm. My wife and I are having the whole gigantic family tribe over for Easter, so when she gets home, we go into CLEAN mode, and I will be working until family arrival at noon on Sunday.

I just wanted a few hours to be a kid again. Is this asking for too much? Where are you Fedex truck? Meanwhile as I pace, I am watching sailboats enjoy the beautiful day on the lake out my windows and wondering if this whole thing didn't backfire on me a little.

Good luck. CM will require more than a few hours. Better get some extra sleep while you can.

I have a love/hate relationship with Fed Ex. Usually, things go just right, but when I'm trying to cut it close, I almost always get burned.

The only time I can recall it working perfectly was when I ordered a brand new CD from one of my favorite bands - it was released on a Tuesday, and I had it fed ex'ed to my house on Wednesday, the same day I was leaving mid-afternoon to head down to South Florida for my wedding and then off on our honeymoon. It was either get it that afternoon, or it would be sitting on my porch for 3 weeks. As I drove down the street, I saw the fed ex guy walking up to my front door. Couldn't have worked out any better - a 7 hour ride with a new CD from one of my favorite bands.

Of course, the trip ended in me getting married, so that was the highlight!

FedEx never makes deliveries here in the mornings, only afternoons.

Damn. Why couldn't CM have arrived BEFORE I played Senator's San Antonio Volunteers in the IHOF multi-player league?

Oh wait. It didn't matter anyway. Twice!

Well, I purchased it from gogamer.com. I guess I will load it and see what happens, but that really makes me a uneasy and more than a little pissed off. For 40+ bucks, I should at least get the real deal.
Quik - you got the copy you have from gogamer - does it say anything like this on the CD?
Everything else looks ok except for that.

I don't know. Loaded it up, and all looks normal. Just that little phrase on the CD itself sent up some red flags.

I guess I will contact gogamer and see what they say. I guess late tonight I will lock myself up in my library and put it through its paces.

I don't recall anything similar on my CD, also shipped from gogamer.com. This seems to be fairly common, though -- I have seen similar notes when shopping for other software through cheap means like ebay. Hope it doesn't compromise the game any.

I know that when I orderded CM4 from gogamer, my cd and box both said for sale only in Ireland, so I think they just get the game from wherever they can.

60 gigs...seriously Corey, what use could that possibly have? That has to be in the millions of songs range.

The best song quality is needed, so he has everything encoded at 4096kpbs.

Na- its because the US edition doesn't really exist, so to speak- so they get editions from other countries and sell them here (for example, the german edition does not come with real players)...

Didn't really think of that. How large are typical MP3 files at 4096 kpbs?

Around 100 megs, I think. So in that case, I guess ct would have a relatively small collection.

A. I'm encoding everything at 128. Nice one though, mckerney.
B. I own at least 800 albums on CD.
C. BY my math there should be room for about 1,300 albums on the MP3 player.

That leaves me with the ability to put my entire music (well, CD) collection on there, and have plenty of room for tossing data on there if needed, and adding plenty more music.

I got mine from gogamer and didn't have a tag from a certain country on it, FWIW.

It should be noted that when I talked about my impatience with a late afternoon FedEx delivery of yet another CM game (CM4 last summer), some doofus around here got all in a huff about it being "just a game".

Well, true, but I lit into him anyway, since it's what it's worth to me that matters to me, right? And screw him anyway!

Anyway, glad that doofus (wasn't a regular, IIRC) or some reasonable facsimilie hasn't shown up in Senator's thread.

kbps - kilobits per second. In terms of MP3's it basically the quality. The higher the kbps the higher the quality (and the larger the file).

Plymouth.

Why? I wanted to follow a team back in 1988 and so I put randomly picked them to follow.

I don't think many ppl like them, I guess they have a bad reputation. They sure are tough to manage in this game, though.

This is a really fun game. One day an American football game will be like this.

I never would have guessed the 2D engine would immerse you like this.

I'm now the one waiting for the Fedex truck to deliver my copy of CM03/04. I managed to adjust my schedule so I have off this morning, but I have patients this afternoon and have to leave for work at 11:30 AM I hope the truck gets here by then because otherwise they likely won't deliver my package and I will either have to drive about 30 minutes to the central fedex office for my area, or I will have to wait til tomorrow for another delivery attempt which I likely won't be home to receive. The tracking notes state it is already on the truck to be delivered, so I'm really hoping they get here by 11:30.

Well it was due by 3:00 PM, according to the slip the serviceman attempted delivery at 2:48 PM However, I just drove a half hour each way to the Fedex hub to get it, and I am about to install the game

One nice thing I found out about FedEx. If you leave that slip they drop off at the first delivery attempt authorizing them to leave the package at your house, they will keep that on record and leave future packages at your house the first time.

I know this and I'm tempted to use it, but I'm always afraid an unscrupulous fedex person might say they delivered my package and then keep it. I know it's unlikely, but I never want to risk it.

yeah... it's lucky for me that the UPS depot is very near to work (i can see it from the second floor windows) and the Fedex Ground isn't too far from home (about 7 minutes).. Now fedex Air is by the airport which is about 20 minutes or so each direction.
