The Alamo : The Movie .

I just saw The Alamo on saturday and I was impressed . The cinematics, and the battle I feel were pretty accurate . Though Crockett's last stand may have been a little too cheesy it was pretty funny .

Based on the box office numbers, you weren't the only one.

Average rating 5/10

I'd be interested in it if it was on HBO, or maybe rental.

It was an OK movie, but there were some historical discrepancies that bothered me a bit...

Did Crockett even die there? I heard that he actually might not have.

dola, I like the farside cartoon with the fat kid in a sad face, selling "we won" shirts below the wooden fence wall. There are people getting shot around him and his face is classic Larson.

You're thinking of Billy the Kid and Young Guns 2

NO NO NO!!!

The shirt says "I kicked Santa Anna's butt at the Alamo."

Or something like that...

Dola-

Actually, there's been some speculation that he may have been taken prisoner and taken back to Mexico City. I remember reading a report several years ago that a researcher thought that he had found Crockett's skull down there, but I don't remember ever hearing an update on that. I think that if it was proven to be his it would have been a big deal...

There is a diary excerpt from a Mexican soldier that indicates Crockett survived the battle, but was taken prisoner along with about 5 others. Santa Anna then had them executed, according to his previous orders to that effect.

I read a book a couple years ago (unfortunately I don't remember the title or author) about the Alamo. The authored had researched fairly extensively and his conclusion was that although it was impossible to ever prove one way or another, it was most likely that Crockett did in fact die fighting at the Alamo. This was based on accounts of civilians who were inside the fort during the battle (my memory is they were Mexican females who were cooks, maids, etc.).

I'm reading a book now about Crockett, Bowie, and Travis and he says that we won't know for sure what really happened to Crockett. He did, however, point out that if Crockett was executed, it was likely inside the grounds and not in Mexico City. It's a good book, so far.
Apparently this author was able to access military archives in Mexico and make some interesting discoveries about what happened.

I thought the movie was okay, not great, but not totally bad. It was definately more historically accurate than either the John Wayne or previous Alamo movies. Oddly enough, for the first time, I agree with the N.Y. Times review, in that the movie tried to do so much that it did nothing.

What I've taken from most reviews/opinions is that it is far more accurate than the John Wayne version, but a much worse movie.

Either way, I'm going to check it out tonight.

I too have heard many speculations that Crocket may have survived and live the rest of his days quietly in Mexico or Tennessee...it;s possible but I doubt it. I guess anyone's guess about him is as good as anybody's. The fact is that the siege really did take place and it has been made into many movies.
I just saw The John Wayne version and couldn't help but laugh at many historical errors in the movie.
