the funniest part of this is brought up by Fanball...how did the police catch him on foot? Has he lost a step?

Patriots: Law fights the law and the law wins

News
Patriots' cornerback Ty Law was arrested Saturday morning in Miami and charged with two misdemeanors. The 30 year-old defensive back was charged with failure to obey a police officer and resisting an officer, according to an ESPN.com report. Law was initially pulled over in his 2004 Rolls-Royce for a lane violation. He initially pulled over to the side of the road, but then allegedly sped off, forcing police to chase him until he stopped about a half-block later. The police report accuses Law of getting out of his car and taking off on foot, only to be caught by a pair of police officers. Miami police officials quote Law as telling the officers "not to touch him because his a professional athlete." Police spokesman Bobby Hernandez said told the media: "(Law) didn't want to go to jail and he didn't want the police to tell him what to do. And that was the problem. He decided that he's above the law and he's not and that's why he was arrested." Law was released a short time later on $1,500 bond.

Has Law lost a step in the offseason? How else can one explain two ordinary police officers catching the speedy cornerback in a foot chase? Nothing against the boys in blue, but this is a Pro Bowl cornerback we're talking about. It's also worth noting that Law said last month that he does not want to play for the Patriots any longer because of a contract dispute. Perhaps Patriots' coach Bill Belichick should hook up with Packers' coach Mike Sherman, who has his own problems with disgruntled cornerback Mike McKenzie.

According to ESPN.com, the cops actually chased him on foot and caught him. The article doesn't say if the cops jammed Ty at the line of scrimmage to keep him from getting into his escape route.

The Patriot players are all players of character. The cops had to start this.

Without a receiver to cover, Law was confused and just ran around in a circle.

Nope, the Rolls is there to add credibility to his claims of being underpaid...

What the hell? He led them on a high speed chase for half a block?

I'm so confused.

I used to be pissed off at Football players who held out. That was up until I learned a little about the contract process. This is something that anyone who has played FOFC knows. The only guaranteed money in an NFL contract is the signing bonus. The Pats wanted to restructure his deal, his current contract said he was to be paid 7 million a year for the next two years(not sure of the exact dollar amounts now). He wants that 14mill in a signing bonus, so he isn't giving anything up in the deal. In short I find it hard to side with an NFL team in these kinds of situations. The team can just cut a player at any time regardless of the players contract. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

Resisting Arrest Charges Dropped Against Patriots' Ty Law

Jun 21, 5:56 PM (ET)

MIAMI (AP) - Prosecutors dropped a final charge Monday against New England Patriots cornerback Ty Law, who was arrested in April after he allegedly led police on a brief foot chase.
Joel Hirschhorn, Law's attorney, said he previously discussed the case with prosecutors, who dropped the charge of disobeying a lawful command by a police officer and the traffic ticket before Monday's hearing.

Prosecutor Jonny Mosely dismissed the remaining charge of resisting an officer without violence at the hearing. Miami-Dade County Judge Jeffrey Schwarz also agreed to return Law's $150 bond. Mosely had no comment on why the charges were dropped.

"This is a classic case of DWB: driving while black," said Hirschhorn, who wasn't in court. "There was no basis for the arrest."

Law, who wasn't in court Monday, was represented by Brian Bieber at the hearing.

Law was charged with resisting without violence after Miami Beach police said the 30-year-old Pro Bowl player sped off in his Rolls-Royce after being pulled over for a lane violation.

Police said they chased Law for about a half a block until he stopped again, and told Law to put his hands behind his back, but he pulled away and ran off.

Police caught up with him after a short chase.
