OOTP6: Las Vegas Spades

I tried a few OOTP5 dynasties that I never saw through to any real completion so I figured I would give it another shot with OOTP6.

I'll be taking over the Las Vegas Spades in a fictional universe with randomized cities. The league is a 24 team league with 3 divisions of 4 teams each. All ratings are set 1-100. No scouts or coaches. The rest of the settings are pretty much standard.

My apologies to SkyDog as I will probably end up ripping off a lot of the format of his dynasty. It is what got me wanting to start one again. And I figure why re-invent the wheel?

Catchers

John Beerman - 32 yrs - (38/55/29)

Beerman will start behind the plate for us. He has a little pop in his bat and has decent gap power, but won't hit mush for average. He is very solid defesively and has an above average arm so I feel very comfortable with him as our starter. He will be a free agent after the season so we will have to evaluate what we want to as the year goes on.

Aurelio Cervantes - 30 yrs - (41/13/31)

Beerman is going to have to be a bit of an iron man for us because Cervantes is very poor defensively. Still he should be able to contribute a bit as a bat off the bench.

Prospects: We have no prospects worth mentioning at the catcher position.

First Base

Luis Caparros - 32 yrs - L/L - (42/61/51)

We will be relying on Caparros to provide some power to the everday lineup. We don't have a toin of pop on this team so we will need him to help carry the load. He has decent gap power and actually hits lefties pretty well considering he is a left hander. His defense is very suspect.

Mark Korando - 28 yrs - R/R - (50/46/23)

Korando is a much better defensive option and will get a few starts because of it. He really hits left handed pitching well and I am very tempted to start his against lefties even though he doesn't have the pop or patience that Caparros has.

Prospects: No one worth noting.

Luis Casas - 29 yrs - R/R - (45/56/35)

Casas is a decent hitter and may be a decent 5th or 6th hitter for us. He looks capable of stealinh 30 or so bases as well so should be a solid player. His defense is pretty suspect.

Prospects: No one worth noting

Third Base

Bryce Ward - 23 yrs - S/R - (62/58/66)

Bryce Ward is a very promising looking young player for us. At 23 he is already a very solid hitter with the best gap power on the team. He is also an above average defender at both 3B and 2B and has a cannon arm. Hit hits well from both sides of the plate, but reall excels from his natural right side. He is a free agent after this season and we will need to look into locking him up this year.

Prospects: No one worth noting.

Short Stop

Jose Hernandez - 32 yrs - R/R - (44/34/55)

Hernandez seems to be your average SS. He is an average to below average hitter, but looks capable fo stealing 30 bases and is solid defensively with a cannon arm. I don't think he will hurt us, but we could probably use a better option here. Hernandez can also play 2B and 3B.

Daniel Paulk - 28 yrs - R/R - (31/16/40)

Paulk doesn't really add much to the team. He is not much of a hitter and isn't very good on defense. I don't suspect we will use him much.

Robert Shepherd - 26 yrs - R/R - (37/30/26)

Shepherd is a much better option on defense than Paulk and will probably get the occasional call to spell Hernandez.

Prospects: No one worth noting. Lots of defense and speed at the SS position in the minors, but no one who cam hit worth a damn.

Left Field

Alberto Cruz - 30 yrs - L/R - (56/56/48)

Alberto may end up hitting lead off for us. He is an average hitter and doesn't quite have the eye I like to have at the top of the lineup, but he looks like he could be a 60 steal guy and I like to have speed setting the table. He can play both LF and RF, but plays them both very poorly. Our defense will be a real concern this year.

Prospects: Jamie Hatfiled - 22 yrs - A - *** - Lots of speed, great defense and could turn into a solid hitter

Center Field

Pedro "The Professor" Porras - 27 yrs - R/R - (80/80/71)

Without question Pedro is the star of our team. He can hit for average, hit for power, has a good eye at the plate and can steal 40+ bases. He is actually better defnsively in LF than CF, but should be ok in center. Our offense will go based on how Porras performs.

Bill Raven - 34 yrs - R/R - (42/49/60)

Raven will be a nice 4th outfielder for us. He is solid at all 3 OF positions and has a solid bat. He will be a nice option for us off the bench.

Bryant Nariaki - 33yrs - L/R - (37/24/45)

Not much with the stick, but Nariaki is a wonderful defender in LF and CF. He will get some time as a defensive sub and can run the bases pretty well too.

Prospects: None worth noting.

Dennis Fountain - 25 yrs - L/L - (43/13/30)

Dennis has almost no power, but is great defensively and has a lot of speed. He will be an ok option at the bottom of the lineup. I would consider strating Raven in his place, but we really need some good defense and he gives us that.

Prospects: Christopher Dieter - 22 yrs - A - **** - Talent (59/54/72)

Dieter could be a very solid player for us in the future.

Starting Pitching

Ted Bayne - 26 yrs - R/R - (65/63/53/81)

Bayne will be the "ace" of our staff, but he is nothing real special. Starting pitching is not a huge strength for this team. Bayne will eat up a lot of innings and should be solid. He is not very good fielding his position.

William Bryan - 24 yrs - R/R - (38/65/64/69)

Bryan doesn't have much in terms of stuff, but he has decent control and movement on his pitches. He should be an ok 2nd option.

Andrew Griffith - 30 yrs - R/R - (44/74/46/65)

Griffith isn't going to walk many, but let's hope his great accuracy but little movement and velocity doesn;t lead to a lot of lost baseballs.

Eden Marrero - 25 yrs - L/L - (38/61/62/66)

Marrero is the only lefty in our starting rotation. He throws pretty hard and has decent control. Again not bad, but really not great either.

Elmer White - 30 yrs - R/R - (43/39/65/96)

Well atleast White can eat up a lot of innigs.

Prospects: No one worth noting.

Relief Pitching

Allan Naranjo - 28 yrs - R/R - (83/73/59/12)

Naranjo is our closer and is a very good one. He throws the ball hard and has great stuff. If we can get to the 9th with the lead he should be able to take care of business for us.

Manuel Ruiz - 27 yrs - L/L - (66/59/71/24)

Ruiz will be out main setup man and should be very solid out of the pen. He is equally tough on both right and left handed hitters. He will be a nice compliment to Naranjo.

Michael Hibbs - 32 yrs - L/L - (80/37/55/28)

Hibbs will be our left handed specialist. He has great stuff and is very tough on left handed hitters. Although he can be a bit wild at times.

Esteban Otero - 34 yrs - S/R - (44/65/62/30)

Ronald Hukill - 31 yrs - L/L - (50/55/62/38)

Phillip Retana - 29 yrs - R/R - (48/62/49/35)

Prospects: Erik Bright - 21 yrs - ****1/2 - AAA - Talent (96/57/47)

Bright could be a dominant closer in the future.

Thnaks. We will see how it goes. I tend not to follow these things through, but I get a much better feel for my players when I write up a dynasty report.

I just did a little test, and see that the conversion scale for 1-100 from 1-10 is as follows:

0-9: 1
10-19: 2
20-29: 3
...
90-99: 10

I was a little confused, wondering why yours and SkyDog's players were so bad. But now that I see a 42/31/43 guy is 5/4/5 and not 4/3/4, it makes a lot more sense.

Looking forward to following!

We find ourselves in first place after the first month of play. The biggest surprise has to be SS Hernandez. He has been tearing the ocover off the ball. The lineup as a whole is hitting very well so far. The pitching has been a bit rocky which was expected. Bayne is pitching very well at the top of the rotation, but past him has been very hit or miss.
