Interesting thing on Young Bush (Not an attack)
So I was over at my friends house yesterday and his neighbor is moving all his stuff out of his house because he's moving. This guy, Chuck is in his 50s or something and he's a real smart guy, knows a couple of languages and went to Stanford and I was just chatting it up with him. Somewhere in the conversation we started talking about George W. Bush, and Chuck said something pretty interesting. Apparently back when Chuck was in prep school he went to school with W. for a summer. Chuck said that he and his friends made fun of W. all the time because "George would run around saying that was going to be President." I was kinda shocked to hear that, but then again this story could be totally bogus. But just for conversation sake, if this is true, does it disturb anyone other than me?

What, that he was convinced he'd be President?
Look, as far as I'm concerned, that means one of two things. A) He had decided even then that he wanted to pursue a career in politics, and that he ultimately wanted to be President (and, more importantly, was confident in his electability), or B) That secret society at Yale - Skull & Bones, I think? - has a lot more clout than they let on. Frankly, I tend to think it's the former. |

Ever watch E! True Hollywood Story? Most of them have stories of them as a kid saying, "I'm going to be a famous actor when I grow up." I'm sure there are millions of kids/young adults whom make these comments and if it actually comes true, they seem prescient. when in reality it is just luck.
Back when Dubbya was young, I'm sure the saying "I'm going to be president" was more prevalent than today's "I'm going to be an actor or rockstar." People had a higher view of politics in those days. Now, if he was in prep-school now and said that, I would be disturbed. |

It doesn't bother me nearly as much as the fact that he actually did become president.
FWIW, Bush's grandfather was U.S. Senator. It don't know the exact years Bush I served in Congress, but I'm thinking that it was the late 60s, which would be about when W. was at Yale. So there was a well-established political tradition in the family, and I'm not a bit surprised that he might have harbored those kinds of ambitions. If he did, the more surprising thing is that he waited so long to enter a political career. |

Answer B is closer to the truth than Answer A, but that is not the real conspiracy, just a smaller conspiracy to throw those of us seeking the truth off the track for a little while...
anyone ever seen that picture of Nixon, Bush Sr., Reagan, and others sitting together at a banquet type affair in the 50's? this was before Reagan had even gotten into politics... somewhere somebody knows who the next 5-6 presidents will be, it's already planned out, our best weapon and our best defense against the plan is technology... once machines take over the world this place will be a lot nicer.

John Kerry was in Skull and Bones also. I think he diced a line of coke for President Bush once. Last edited by Desnudo : 05-06-2004 at 12:28 PM. |

I can't stand W. as a President, but this story doesn't bother me in the least - as pointed out previously, at that time being President was an ambition many people aspired to. Given the family's political history, it makes sense that would be something he'd profess to as a goal. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Yea I guess you guys are right, I didn't look at it in that perspective. Although Chuck did insinuate that W. knew he was going to be president and bragged about it. Not that he said he wanted to be President, but that it was like a fact of life that he was. I don't know it was just an interesting thing that I heard, maybe isn't true and if it is true maybe theres nothing behind it. Maybe W. just was confident that he was going to be President, kind a like he was confident that Iraq had Weapons of Mass Destruction. (Sorry, had to bash him a little).

If I remember right, Clinton was known to say the same thing when he was young.

I remember a Frontline mini-documentary on how it is a small world at the top and how our national leaders come from a relatively small circle of people. An example they gave was from back in the early 80's. Some kind of international conference was being being held in Geneva (or thereabouts); it was some kind of economic conference attended by world leaders in both the political and corporate arena. Low and behold, the governor of Arkansas attended the meeting. Now, according to Frontline, the governor of Arkansas would not ordinarily attend this meeting, but for some reason big Bill got invited.
