Sean Taylor does not want to be a Redskin?

From Peter King yesterday:

"6. I think I'm hearing ominous signs out of Washington that first-round pick Sean Taylor does not want to be a Redskin. But I wouldn't expect Joe Gibbs to be too worried. He'll figure this one out. "

What the heck is that all about? Doesn't want to be a Redskin after having been with them all of a month or so?

Doesn't Sean Taylor know this is not the way things are done in the NFL? You get together with your father and tell the team BEFORE the draft that you won't play for the team, not after the draft. Kids these days...

What the heck?! This seems like a pretty bold claim that I have not seen anywhere else.. has anyone seen this substantiated?

So far as I am aware, the only bit of corroborating information is that Taylor fired his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, two days after the draft. The conspiracy minded may look at the intrigue of LaVar Arrington, the Poston borthers, Kellen Winslow, and Taylor and come up with a scenario that has Taylor working with the Postons to embarass the Redskins. Peter King (who called Washington his 'favorite whipping boys' in a radio segment a while back) appears to be the only person in the media to have reported this possible story, though a two line note halfway through a column that opened with a ten paragraph blurb about an NFL Europe player can't be considered a huge bombshell.

There may be something to it; time will tell. Taylor appeared as of Tuesday morning to be leaning towards Jeff Moorad; Clinton Portis apparently told the Redskins staff that his former teammate Taylor was excited about Washington. Until Taylor is inked, nothing's a sure thing.

From Redskins.com

""At Miami, a lot of the players come back to share their experiences with the young guys, to give a little inspiration so that others can one day make it to this level," Taylor said. "I'm leaving the University of Miami and coming right into another tradition, with all the great coaches and players surrounding the organization.

"We have Laveranues Coles, LaVar Arrington, Fred Smoot--we have a lot of veterans. I'm a young guy trying to come in here to earn my stripes. Hopefully I'll contribute and help us win some games. I'll help out any way I can."

"When I came for a visit, I loved it here," he said. "It's a great situation with a great coach, someone who has three Super Bowls and is trying to get another one. And there are a lot of great players here and it's a great community. I can't wait to get started."

Why wouldn't you want to play there. If you perform just OK you know you are gonna get a monster deal that overpays you for your second contract from Snyder.

One of my best friends works for the Redskins and he knows nothing about it. He allways knows everything before it happens because he works with the players and the coaching staff. It sounds like a lot of bull to me.

This was mentioned by a Detroit Lions beat writer to a friend of mine in a private conversation last week; I'm not sure it ever made the air/print here, but I was told about it last Friday, so the rumor has gotten around a bit. Not that that gives it any credibility.

Are you trying to say race played a factor in the Redskins drafting Taylor?

Probably means the contract $$$ aren't where he would like them to be.

Honestly though - name one great white player on the Redskins?

I know just being humorous, but I don't think he had much of a choice.

Isn't Jon Jansen on the Redskins? Maybe not great, but pretty good I think.

Best offensive lineman we have and very very underrated. He's way better then Chris "I get paid way to much" Samuals.

Having Chris Samuels though is much better than having Oliver Ross or Todd Fordham as your starting RT.

I don't know if idiotic is the right word... but he sure is tiresome. I'm really sick of him pimping starbucks and giving weekly updates on his daughter. It's almost a little creepy. What happens when she gets to college?

c. Colgate Kappa Alpha Theta Note of the Week: Congratulations to Mary Beth King for pledging Kappa Alpha Theta this week. I understand the hazing for new pledges has been toned down over the years, and Mary Beth was only required to drink 12 beers and perform lap dances for 4 Delta Upsilon pledges while wearing a thong and a wet t-shirt (in past years, the minimum was 18 beers, and the dances were done topless). She's got an appointment next week at the campus health center to get an Ortho TriCyclen prescription, so until then, it'll be strictly hand jobs for you lucky guys in Hamilton, NY.

Just laughed out loud and made everyone in the computer lab look at me funny. Funniest thing I've read in ages.

Sums King's articles up... although if you can ignore the inane bits he's actually quite knowledgeable and comes through sometimes on scoops

LOL

"I think sometimes in this business, we get bad information, and we get it from people we think are reliable, but that is no excuse if we run with it. Such was the case last week. I can find no corroborating evidence that first-round pick Sean Taylor wants out of Washington. I apologize to the Redskins faithful who got very nervous over the note I ran last week, and to Taylor."

If I e-mail him that bit I wrote regarding Mary Beth: The College Years, do you think he'd print it?
