Romance of the Three Kingdoms IX
I see that a new Romance of the Three Kingdoms game has been out for a while now. I never really noticed, I have, III, XII and XIII. Anyone familar enough with the serious to know if the new one is worth the upgrade. It came out like 4 or 5 months after the one I have, so it kinda makes me wonder. I tried to rent it, but good luck finding it in blockbuster, as I figured before I even tried.

Most of my friends who liked VII and VIII did not like IX very much. The combat system has changed and you special attacks and duels are triggered by what skills your officers have and what formation you are using.

I would stick with 7 or 8 and even though 9 excels at the Battle system it takes away alot of features that 6-9 had (mostly RPG elements)
They say ROTK X is the one to watch for as it brings back the role playing aspect. (ala being able to play as officer, ronin, warlord, prefect, or ruler) Sorry I cant read chinese or I can explain the 10th one better, unless you go here...http://forums.sanguo-online.com/index.php? and see if there are more articles.. I've been looking to buy a new version of ROTK as well. I haven't played since 3. All the research that I've done suggests that you stick to 7 and 8. It sounds like took a lot of the fun out of 9, but it could be a platform for a combination of the RP aspects and the new battle engine for 10. From what I've heard skip it and wait for 10.

Basically just echoing the other sentiments already...9 introduced some cools options when it comes to battles, but right now, 7 or 8 are the better games to play. I have heard, as others have mentioned, that 10 should combine elements from 7, 8, and 9, so I think that is the one to look for...but for the moment, stick with 7 or 8.

I just ordered the RotK 58 DVD (yes, *58!*) set, with all the TV episodes from China (with subtitles) 50+ hours of RotK.. I think my head will explode

$119, but since I had a $25 coupon from my Amazon Visa, it was like $94 (might be a bit higher)

I played 9 for a while, but I think 8 was more fun. 9 seemed too much like a very slow moving turn-based strategy game for the PC; without the extras you get on the PC like good graphics and fast processing.
In the same theme, Samurai Warriors is out for the PS2. It's like Dynasty Warriors, but with Japan as the storyline. Last edited by Desnudo : 05-26-2004 at 04:08 PM. |

It's not the same without Zhao Yun, Des!
![]() I don't have a PS2 so I've never been able to play these games. The last one I played was 4. I hope to get into these one of these days when I finally get a modern day console. Used to read books about the story itself back when I was a kid (never did read the story itself, though, never was quite able to get into it) and that was a blast. |
