The Fonz is in the House

Thats right, its the American Idol finale... where random stars congregate for no reason.

Look, there's Steve Edwards
and Ray Romano
and Sharon Osborne.

WTF

Tamyra Gray's rendition of the Anthem had me wishing for Carl Lewis. It was that bad. She must have gotten a case of nerves or something. That was horrendous.

Is Tamyra Gray a competitor, or just someone doin' the honors?

Because we have her CD at work already...

She was a contestant from season 1 and co-wrote this year's winner's first single.

Next year, I'm going to attach six C-47's to my genitals, inhale copious amounts of helium, and pluck out each of my moustache hairs right before I audition. I would probably win American Idol, because that combination of events would cause me to sound exactly like Fantasia. Pumpy in 2005!

I don't get the big adverse reaction to Fantasia. As far as annoying voices go, I don't find her any more annoying than Aretha Franklin. And she can sing better than anyone I've ever seen on that show. Not that I'd ever buy a CD by anyone from American Idol, but she can sing.

I'm just hoping that one day, they have a spinoff of American Idol that concentrates on songerwriters. I think that would be a worthy competition, although inevitiably, they'd whittle it down to 10 Dianne Warren-wannabes, so the final product would end up sucking just as much as AI. Nevermind.

You guys need to check out WB's Superstar USA. They're down to 8 "finalists," all of whom are of the mistaken belief that they are good. The judges whittle down the contestants each week by kicking off the best ones, although none of the contestants know it. It's hard to fathom how some of these people could believe they arre decent singers/performers, let alone "superstar" material, and the UIC in that is worth watching the show all by itself. It's so bad, the people so pathetic, that it's great.

Latoya may be the best singer of the bunch, but to me, she's just like any number of R&B singers out there. There's nothing that sets her apart. Fantasia, like her or not, is different.

I love some of the lines the bizzaro judges come up with on that show. They even have a bizzaro Seacrest...classic.

The best 2 lines so far are the "you made love to that song..." lines that Briggs used. The first one was (I found this on the net verbatim):

"You made love to that song, man. You caressed it, you fondled it, you smacked it up, you rubbed it down, you flipped it, you reversed it even, you nibbled it a little, you kind of spanked it at one point and then you smoked a cigarette and you cuddled it….(long pause)…It was nice."

The second one was similar, except it went something like, "You brought it home, undressed it, led it to the bedroom, laid it down on the bed, massaged it...the second part, you kinda choked it a bit, but then you had your way with it."

LOL!

Dola.

And I'm still in awe that they let Frank go. The guy couldn't sing, couldn't dance, made Harvey Fierstein look straight, and he dressed like his idol Britney Spears. What MORE could you want?!

I'm thinking they considered him a possible mental case if they took it any further and he was told the truth during the finals, because he was finals material.

Aretha Franklin has some strength to her voice. Fantasia does not. If a woman is going to try to sing with that loud, passionate style, she'd better have some strength to it, or she's going to sound like a crying child. I thought Fantasia sounded best when she kept it mellow. The more her mouth opened, though, the more grating the voice got.

I still have yet to hear or read a single compliment about Fantasia's voice. I don't question her ability to hold a note. As far as being able to sing technically, she's good (then again, so was Latoya), but I can't find anyone who truly believes that her voice is pleasant to listen to. I gather that it's in my best interests to simply accept that the voice isn't the only important part of the competition. Personally, I think she puts on a good show. She has energy and gets the crowd going. The show just works better for me if I have a functional mute button handy.

Fantasia's voice is fine. She sounds like Macy Grey and Tina Turner.

LaToya was the best singer, but in my book, Fantasia's uniqueness made her rate just a little higher.

DiGarmo is a nice girl who can probablly make a living off her voice. Was it my TV, or did DiGarmo gain 5 pounds every week?

I think it was your TV, a couple of weeks she didn't wear clothes "right" for her , but most of the time she looked ok. My guess is that she hasn't lost the "baby fat" being only 16.
