cartman's Euro 2004 U-Pick-em contest

Hello all,

Here is the place to get your picks in for how you think Euro 2004 is going to end up. There will be two sections.

In the first section, you will pick how you think the pools with end up, and how many points each team will earn in their pool. You will get one point for each correct finishing placement, and the "points earned" will be used as a tie breaker.

In the second section, you predict how the knockout rounds will happen. You will get two points for each Quarterfinal winner predicted, 4 points for the Semifinal winners, and 8 points for picking the Euro 2004 champion. Also put the score you predict for each game, as this will also be used as a tie breaker.

Here are the pools, and after will be the schedule for the knockout games. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck!

No I didn't my Dutch friend. The email I may have listed here might be an old one. I don't pop in too often anymore. Looking forward to Euro 2004 though. Not sure it will be a good tournament for your Oranje men though.

I think it was an "old" emailadress I had from back to World Cup 2002 when you sent me a spreadsheet. (For Euro 2004, I created my own with complete calculations for ordering in groups and filling out the knockout stages).
Anyway, your tradition has been continued and Cartman tossed in this equivalent.

Concidering Oranje, I'm sceptical because of the injury proneness of left winger(s) Robben, playmaker Van der Vaart seems exhausted, midfielders Sneijder and Van Bommel seem to miss the experience to do well in such a bug tournament.
Good thing Van Nistelrooij is fit in time, Stam is rocky as always and the Cocu/Davids tandem did miracles for Barcelona the past half season.

Enough off topic stuff for now, hope to see ya around in the Euro2004 threads the coming weeks.

I don't want to spoil the fun for you, but these are mathematically impossible, unless the game England-Croatia is played twice...

Or these are strategic "errors" and I am ignoring the fact that one can put in impossible combinations of points to better the odds in the tiebreakers.

They can't really help in the tiebreaker, since accuracy is what determines the tiebreaker.

That starts a big question for me, what are the tiebreakers at the tournament?
As of now I figured it will be head-to-head amongst tied teams, then goal difference in head-to-head games, then goals scored in head-to-head games, then goal difference in all games and lastly goals scored in all games.
In the qualifying stages it all came down on head-to-head rather then goal difference, but I can't find the info for the finals tournament yet. So I guess it will be similair in the finals, but I can't find confirmation yet...

Thanks! Or should I say Dank U

I'm in the airport in Denver right now waiting for my connecting flight, and they have WiFi here in the terminal. Downloading 400 spam emails right now.

Looks like we have a decent start to the turn out. People have until next week, before the first games start, to get their submissions in.

The tournament is starting in, what, five days?

And obviously there is no need to advertise my spreadsheet at we-dot-win-dot-com...

Games start in a couple of hours, so last chance to get your picks in. Kickoff of the first game is 5pm GMT, so that's noon on the East Coast, 9am on the West Coast.
