OT - I'm With Stupid #71

IWS #71

The recent trend with the “I’m With Stupid” contest has been to use a themed set of questions… my last offering (with a literary theme) aroused both cheers and jeers, which is perfectly fine by me. After some contemplation, I’ve decided to stick with the “it’s good for you” attitude – so, rather than offering up some more meaningless pop culture references, I’ll stick with the highbrow side. This time, the theme will be “the arts.”

Questions

1. Name a great painter.

2. Name a great sculptor.

3. Name an opera.

4. Name a work of classical music.

5. Name a great work of architecture.

6. Name a museum not located in Paris.

The Rules

The rules are the same as previous FOFC “I’m With Stupid" Contests, as set forth by the game’s founding fathers.

The object of this contest is to answer the questions posted, and to provide the most common answer among those submitted. For each question, your score will be equal to the number of people who submitted that response. Your score for the contest will be the product of your individual question scores. Highest score wins.

No collaborating in any way. No posting your answers to this board, nor sharing them by e-mail or in any other way with other potential contestants.

All determinations of "matches" and anything else requiring judgment fall to that of the sole administrator of this round of the game. You can reduce the need for doubt and judgment by properly spelling your submissions, being clear, and that sort of thing. My decisions are final and inarguable.

Any references that are unclear to you, due to language or geography, should be understood to be authored from the perspective of an English-speaking American. However...

Your answers do not necessarily have to be correct in order to score points. If I ask "name a color of the rainbow," and you and four other people responded "black" - you get five points, period, even if it is not technically a correct answer to the question.

PM your answers to me, QuikSand, before Thursday morning, QDT. I plan to assemble the results by then – and will accept anything that gets to me before I get started.

Interesting...

I thought 3 of these questions were really "easy" (one clear-cut choice), but the other three are very intriguing.

Sent, here's hoping I'm out of the bottom 5 for once.

And if people don't like the set of questions, they can just win one and do their own.

Initially, I thought that two of the six were "easy" in that respect, and I didn't mind that being the case.

However, Mrs. Q sent me her answers, and her answer for one of theones I thought would be a runaway was different than my "obvious" answer and also perfectly defensible... plus, she submitted one answer that now makes me think that question is "easy."

Who can say?

FWIW, if you're referring to my post above, I wasn't at all complaining. I am probably going to be completely wrong on those 3 "easy" questions I mentioned.

Was just posting some "watercooler" chatter on the these questions.

I have a pretty strong feeling I know what the last question you're talking about is...

As for the others, it's highly likely that my answers will get the big old 1 on those questions. Just seemed like there was stuff that came to my mind instantly upon reading, which doesn't usually happen in IWS's (particularly your's, QS).

I'd be curious to know afterwards what you thought were "easy" questions...

Because either I'm dumb, or you're wrong ... to me, NONE of these are gimme questions.. I had to think long and hard about this and still am not at all confident...

Agreed. There is only one question that I did not have an immediate second answer for, and there is a very specific reason I had one pop into mind for that most other people won't have.

Then again, I've been in the bottom 5 for the handful of these I participated in, so I'm not a good candidate to judge.

I've got about 25 responses so far - not bad, for a set of questions that do make you think a bit.

Keep 'em coming!

I won't get to my office until at least noon today - so I'll still accept entries that get to me before then. I plan to compile them today... so "last call!"
