General Question about attacks on people.

We rip games.

We rip people here.

We rip news casters, singers, muscians, me, sports teams, atheletes. We use their name, we discuss it openly taking shots all the time.

Yet in another thread, its considered a personal attack. What constitutes a personal attack, I'm a bit confused where the difference is.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks in advance,

Took you off ignore just to see what you had to say about personal attacks...

Thanks in advance,

Read the agreement that you agreed to when you signed up and use your discretetion. When you can't, then the mods give you a limit through warning. If you can't live with that, then you can move on.

Thanks in advance,

Theres a difference, Jason between,

1. Ripping each other ( we are here to defend ourselves and really, we don't take it nor do we give it personal. If we do, it's not ok )

2. Ripping public persons. That's part and parcel of being a celebrity.

and

3. Attacking someone who isn't in category 1 and 2.

Really, just using common decency and discretion should cover it. I can't believe you have trouble figuring out where the line should be drawn.

You did say "me" and I didn't miss that. You gave as well as you got so you had to expect that. Whenever any of us goes where you went we get the same. We usually get over it. If you push for abuse, you'll get it.

I don't think as a whole, we hold grudges but if you keep putting your foot in your mouth, it'll seem that way.

Thanks in advance,

It's simple, follow The Golden Rule when dealing directly with other people. If you don't know what that is, then maybe you've located the source of your confusion.

If I said what you were an asshole for saying what you said then that would be a personal attack.

If I said what you thought was wrong or stupid then I am just attacking your message, not you.

The key is to distinguish between the person and the thought. You can attack someone's thought without attacking them, but it is bad form in my eyes to attack someone directly because you disagree with their viewpoint.

incredibly, most of the political threads do this extremely well, attacking stances and thought....philosophies. This would seem to be fertile ground for personal attacking, but here at the FOFC, we keep it above board (usually). I think thats why i enjoy pol. threads here so much.

That was an example of a personal attack.
