A lot of advice needed

Help. I have a bunch of decissions to make and I'm not sure what to do.

My team is : Confederates (72127)

To start with I have a qualification match to promote. It is a pretty evenly matched one (I'm not quite a good, but I could win), especially if I MOTS, since I've not done it this season. However, I'm not sure my team is ready to promote, and don't know if I'd be better served to remain where I am.

Here is some additional information you may find useful:
  • I PICed almost every game - so if you go back and look at the star ratings they will be slightly low
  • I have 4 good middies - Spurlock, Henneman, Smith & Holton. I was going to sell Spurlock since he's older, and address some of my teams other weaknesses, but selling Holton (no secondaries) might be better - or maybe I should sell both.
  • My wingers are really middies, but they seem to be pretty productive playing wing and they are still getting 1/2 training- increasing sale value. Not sure when, or which to sell them and get real wingers.
  • I need Defenders Bad (CD and WB).
  • I have a bunch of similar players and I'm not sure which or how many I should keep.
  • I have and 750,000 in the back not counting the bonus for winning the division.

These where my plans:

Sell Arsenault, Wiseman, Sharpe, Ferrell, Patel, Spurlock, Redman - and get a defender, WB, and possibly a better mid trainee.

Any advice is welcome - if you have any questions let me know - since I'm sure I forgot to put something important down.

I would grab 3x solid defenders (should be ~300K total, depending) and spend the rest on attack. Your defense is ok. Though I would personally try to balance it out a bit, instead of cramming everyone into the center.

750K - 300K = 450K to spend, plus whatever you make from sales.

Since money is tight and you already have decent forwards... and the forward market is so screwed up: I would normally go with a pure winger. But you train PM, so unless you want to cycle trainees (or are willing to sacrifice the 50% slot) you need forwards. You could probably grab a good excellent, or a formidable.

That is in terms of upgrades, and seperate from your training program (which should pay for itself.) Spurlock should easily buy you a decent trainee, with any leftover money going to forwards. Or you can splurge on the best trainee you can afford. But I wouldn't dump all my cash back into the training program... the whole point of training is that it pays for itself and the profits help your team improve as a whole.

Honestly, I don't know that I would even bother buying any defenders. I would probably play Byrne as an offensive cd in league matches and then as a trainee in friendlies and put two passable defenders as defensive wb's. Or even keep Spurlock and play with two offensive cd's and one defensive wb. But then again midfield and offense have been on my mind this season so maybe that isn't a good idea.
