Montana or Leaf???

Interesting guy. Extreme low current development. Extreme high volatility. Extremely good combine scores. How do y'all think he'll turn out?

The fact that he only knows 6 formations leads me to believe that he's Leaf 2.

When do we get the results?

I like that he has some speed, and he's a big question mark, but I'd draft him in the first round.

I don't think I've ever seen a guy with numbers this extreme on both ends. 6 formations??? 13% developed???? 23 Bench Press Reps for a QB???

He is legit. 4.5 speed? Wow. That is why he only knows a few formations because in college he just ran all day.

The low % developed with the high volatility is what has me concerned.

Well, I definitely won't be spending a high pick on him myself. I've got Vick in year 8 (80/82), and a 2nd-year guy who is 37/62.

I spotted him during the draft preview, so it is gonna be a while, probably early tomorrow morning, before we see his red/green ratings. I still need to run the draft extractor, then do free agency and the draft before we see his first post-camp ratings.

I'll definitely let y'all know.

I wouldn't worry about formations. With that intelligence score he should increase that drastically.

I think he'll turn out to be a high 70s QB. Worse case scenario should be 65. His combined numbers are too good to be a bust. But his low formations, very high volatility and ultra low current ratings scares me. Would be hard to give him the starts he needs to develop. I would be interested to see if starting him every game for the next few seasons would affect his overall development vs giving him the starts later.

I think he will definately be above average (at worst).

I'd draft him with a valuable top 5 pick without thinking about it.

I don't care for him too much. First, with a current estimate of only 12, he's likely to sit on the bench for at least two years. Second, the 6 formations is just terrible for a QB that's likely to be drafted high. That will also assure he sits on the bench for at least two years. Third, despite his great speed, his scrambling skill isn't great. And finally, though I care less about volatility than most people, here it's just another negative.

He's likely to go anywhere from 3rd to 16th overall, and even at 16th, he's probably not worth the money. He would need careful management to maximize his value - a mentor, as much preseason action as he can get, a little bit of regular season action, and don't forget to pray for an injury-free development. I'm betting he'll still have significant potential by the time his contract runs out, and I'm sure he'd be a better value then.

I'd compare him more to Terry Bradshaw, who was quite lucky to play in an era where he was given time to develop.

He was drafted 1(2) by Buffalo. The Bills have 15th-year man Mark Brunell as their starter, and no other QB's under contract. He *might* get to play soon.

No kidding. I'm curious to see what will become of him. Buffalo has 4 QB's under contract at the beginning of the preseason, and Castillo's current rating of 12 is the 2nd-best. If the aging Brunell gets injured, it looks like Castillo could play this year.

Dola - Didn't even see that Brunell was on the same team when I typed my Brunell Jr. comment. Maybe the original can mentor him.

You got your wish, Dutch. Brunell was done for the year after 6 games with a torn rotator cuff. Castillo started the last 10 games, and played decently for a rookie:

171 for 308, 1790 yards, 11 TD's, 8 INT's, 73.6 Rating.

He's up to 21/88 at the end of his first regular season.

I think it has been shown that Solecismic Test does not correlate with intelligence. The number of formations he knows is the primary indicator, I believe.

He got picked #2 overall. I guess I was dead wrong there then. I would have like to know where he would have been drafted if he fell through the #2 pick.

Anyhow, it does look like he's going to develop since he got the minutes in his first season. And the Solecismic Test is suppose to determine how quickly the QB learns new formations right?

That's a strange question. He was picked by an AI team, so it naturally follows that he wouldn't have "fallen" very far. I guess he would have gone no later than #12 if not then, because another QB was picked in that slot.

2nd season: 16 starts, 278 for 496, 2879 yards, 15 TD's, 19 INT's, 67.0 Rating. 45 rushes, 252 yards, 2 TD's.

He's up to 50/96 at the beginning of 2010. He knows 8 formations now.

Looks like he's coming into his own. 2010 stats:

313 for 522, 3555 yards, 23 TD's, 14 INT's, 83.9 Rating, 46 rushes, 281 yards, 2 TD's.

He knows 9 formations, and is up to 86/96. At this point, I'm guessing that his lack of formations will inhibit him from becoming one of the greatest QB's in my league's history. However, I think he'll be a "normal" star player.

86/96. That justifies a top 5 pick in my book.

I wonder if the ammount of people saying he would bust would have passed on him?

If the first true draft in IHOF is any indicator, this guy would have gone #1 overall. If he wouldn't have, he would next year. That's my guess, anyway.

Most people have such lousy QB's that the value has sky-rocketed. I think you're going to see a lot of people learn to live with a so-so signal caller. Multi player is a whole different world.

Thank god I set my QB preference high and had Conti delievered to me.

Or two so-so signal callers rotating based on matchups...

Anyway, if the AI is altering used formations based on this QB, I see no reason why a QB rated this high should not be the best QB in league history.

End of Year 4:

97/97

296 for 562, 3832 yards, 16 TD's, 8 INT's, 77.8 Rating. Rushed 37 times for 220 yards and 0 TD's.

Still only knows 9 formations.
