OT - Rudy Tomjanovich

He's being mentioned as a top candidate replacement coach for the Lakers. What's everyone know about him? I know he won two titles and has delt with superstars on the same team before. Jeebs?

Didn't (doesn't) he have health problems? That's all I can seem to recall from my days of following basketball.

Dola-

His health is fine now after his recovery from cancer. He's been working for the Rockets (either as a scout or in the front office, I'm not sure which), and what I've heard is that he's turned down a couple of teams overtures because he would like to wait at least one more year before becoming a head coach again.

Hopefully he waits and doesn't go to LA...

I dont see Rudy T becoming the Laker coach. From what I've heard Jerry Buss is glad that Phils contract is up and he is looking forward to finding someone with ties to the Laker organization to take the job.

He wasn't that great in college and didn't have enough prolonged success and didn't do that great in the pro's either.

Pat Riley's name has been mentioned, but I doubt he gets hired again

Dammit! Please no, Rudy! Don't go to the Lakers! That would put so much taint on a coach I loved

The Tim Floyd comment was just a joke, and he is indeed a lousy pro coach, but I must defend his college record as someone who followed him very closely in those days. He WAS great in college -- he just didn't stick around long enough at Iowa State (the team he recruited in his brief time there came a couple baskets short of the Final Four). Before that he brought a program with no money and no support (UNO) to a #13 national ranking.

And no, I am not a relative. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

I think Bobby Knight would be an excellent choice to encourage Kobe to return. Plus I'd love to see Shaq's reaction to Knight's proven motivational techniques.

Seriously though, Byron Scott is an ex-Laker looking for a job.

Would Byron pull a Belichick and quit the Hornets and go to the Lakers?

I hope the Lakers hire Bill Russell or Gary St. Jean or one of the other incompetent schmucks that made us Northern California fans suffer so many years.

When I heard Scott was thinking about the NO job, this was the first thing that popped into my head. Everyone knew that there was a good chance Jackson would leave. I'm sure he would be #1 on LA's list, and that should be his dream job.

Add in how NO could be getting trounced going east-to-west and may have had trouble filling the job anyway, I'm still puzzled.

Kurt Rambis would be a good choice. He had Dennis Rodman and the Interm status last time around and Im sure he's learned a few things in the past 5 years.
