About a year ago there was a discussion on AI here. You mentioned Matchstick Theory, something you created and said you never got around to writing a paper on it. I was wondering if you ever did that.

I am Marc Vaughan, because you other two obviously can't spell my name correctly.

However, I am Leonard Nimoy.

Hello, I'm Leonard Nimoy. The following tale of alien encounters is true, and by true, I mean false. It's all lies, but they're entertaining lies, and, in the end, isn't that the real truth? The answer is no.

That is not true. I have spoken truer words. And by truer words, I mean falser words. And by falser words, I mean that I have killed a man with my bare hands. And what could be more false than that? Nothing, I submit, could approach that truth.

LOL

Match stick theory is a bit of a 'mickey take' on all the game developers who come up with their own (cough) unique theories .....

It was a very simple scoring way of making the AI in our games learn over time and is named from the idea of having piles of 'match sticks' for each decision which bias the likelihood of that decision being taken, everytime the AI does something which works (assuming he's clever enough to learn) it adds a 'match stick' to the pile for that decision (and vice versa, taking one away if something bad happens because of that decision).

Like, purely for example, if the AI was to throw away a pile of money on Emile Heskey, it would try everything possible to get rid of him and then would never buy Emile Heskey again?
