Total Pro Football Instant Replay Demo

Just wanted to let everyone know the "Second Chance" demo for Total Pro Football is now on our servers. Even if you downloaded and tried the game before, this one will give you a full three days to try it again.

You can get the demo here:

http://66.193.175.87/redist/TPF_2ndChance.exe

Here's how to install the Instant Replay demo:

1. If you had already installed a TPF trial in the past, simply download the new trial update and run the EXE.

2. Make sure you choose the same folder to install the update where the TPF game was originally installed (the default is the same as the normal TPF install path).

3. Once the update is complete, start TPF.

4. Click to start the trial and you now have a new 3 days to try the game.

Included in TPF's Instant Replay will be the patch (1.41) and fixes shown in this thread.

If you wish to purchase the game after playing the trial, you can go to the .400 Software Studios Electronic store here:

https://www.elicense.com/400software/store/index.asp

Neat-o. I did buy and return it once (because of all the issues that don't need to be brought up again). It might be time to forgive and forget and gives this puppy a ride.

Anyone who is trying this, let me know the verdict. I'd pick it up if it got enough endorsements from FOFC'ers

Nice job in improving the company's customer service. This goes a long way in many eyes.

Can you run this demo if you never had the first one?

Tried installing it.

First, it wouldn't show up in my 'programs list' in the start menu. No biggie. I went to the .exe and clicked on it. It allowed me to register but as soon as that was done, I got an error message (run time error 53) saying I was missing some file in my graphics folder (splash.res something or other). I tried installing it a couple times and it still gave me the same message.

Any idea why this is?

Hurst, you may have an older version of the game. The Second chance demo is contingent upon people having atleast version 1.40. The best bet for anyone getting an error (or with an earlier version) would be to uninstall their version and redownload the full install here:

http://www.400softwarestudios.com/redist/TPF_setup.exe

Then do the second chance update.

Let me know if that helps.

Ok, let's try this again.

What's the lowdown on this game post-patch? I have a dial-up connection and don't want to spend forever dl'ing this if it's not very good.

I can't tell you how it works long term yet, because I haven't even had a chance to get through a season yet. As for why no one here is interested- I think people have simply given up on this game- even though IMO it has tons of potential and has a prett solid single player A.I.

I never bought it the first time, got turned off buying it because of all the issues, and now it's simply too late after the season (or too early before next season) for me to care.

It has a great offseason. Gameplanning / Packages is a bit confusing. Really good player development. The engine is pretty solid, but the PBP is lacking. If you are into coaching, there isn't enough descriptions of play-by-play. So quite a few things get repeated or at times the description doens't match up with the engine. That is very disappointing, because the delivery of the PBP is fantastic, with a radio style PBP. Its better from a macro standpoint, then a gameday micro standpoint. Subbing players in and out is wacked also.

I've been running .41 for a while now and I enjoy it. The interface looks nice, but it isn't very user friendly unless you use the hotkeys. I play both FOF and TPF and get a different kind of enjoyment out of each. The new scouting stuff in .41 makes the best draft of its kind even better.

If you need a football fix and haven't tried it in a while, I would give it a whirl.

That's a really good idea for a first generation offering.

One complaint I have regarding the offseason is that it's far too easy to resign your own players. The game boasts to have players who get frustrated and downright angry with your organization, yet you can resign any player on your roster provided you have cap space. None of the players are ever willing to test the FA market, which I don't think is supposed to be a feature, but it would be a good fix for this I guess.

PSUColonel is right in that no player will "refuse to sign with a team". But, some players will ask your team for much higher than market contracts to resign. So, in that regard, there are some inheirant bounds in the resign period where unless you want to resign 2 or 3 unhappy players at higher-than-market deals (and maybe hurt your cap for other spots), the best bet may be to let them head into FA.

I could turn that back on you, Jason.. put me on YOUR ignore list.. apparently you're so bothered by me pointing out your past faults it drives you to post each time. . Not annoyed, just enjoying the fact that you pretend that your words still have any meaning.

Not to knock Arles and crew, TPF is pretty sweet... not QUITE at the level of FOF, but if I could combine most of FOF with TPF's draft.. the game would be a freetime killer par supreme

The Packages idea sounded pretty good on paper, but the execution of it doesn't quite do what it sounded like it would. It was supposed to make gameplanning easier, instead it made it worse, IMO anyway.

I would agree, Sabotai. In the next version, the PBP and gameplan/package process are the two biggest changes I want to make.

Arles, I'm a little confused. The way I read your above posts we need to download and install the original demo TPF_setup.exe and then then download and install the update (2nd_chance whatever). Is that right? Is there not a single download for the latest release?

I can tell you what I did:

I origionally had TPF installed on my computer. I uninstalled the game. I installed the latest demo. I then installed the replay patch. Everything worked well.

I am still on the fence when it comes to ordering the game again. I would like to but it seems pretty expensive for me to do it now, knowing that EHM is coming out soon. If it was just 5 to 7 dollars cheaper, I might jump on TPF. Alas, it is not and I have to decide if I want to commit the money to buy a game that will have a new version out in less than 6 months.

Help me out guys.

Keep in mind, there is no guarentee a yearly version of TPF will be released.

If you have never installed the game, just download the main TPF_setup.exe file and install it. Then, you can start the three day trial.

The second chance update is only for people that installed the game and didn't buy it earlier, and want to try it again. If you are in that group, you may want to uninstall the version you currently have, install the main download again and finally run the second chance update.

But, if you have never install TPF, all you need to do is install the main download (TPF_setup.exe).

Thanks, Arles. I downloaded the original but was never able to install it (double clicked on the filename and it just blinked and returned me to the desktop). Never did find out why. I was short of time then so didn't go too deeply into why. I'll download the TPF_setup.exe and check this out.
