Its time for a Football or Baseball franchins IN SV

If Silicon Valley were a nation, it would have the 12 largest economy in the world. Obviously, there is an economy here that can support a Pro Football or Baseball team. Either in San Jose or close to it. The Niners and the Giants are the ones preventing either the Raiders or the A's from entering the South Bay. And with good reason of course. This market is pretty big. You have San Jose, which houses over a million people (larger population than SF). And the small cities just north of San Jose, Woodside, Atherton, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Los Altos, Mountain View etc.
Of course, let me be the first Silicon Valley resident to say that I would still be a Niner and Giant fan if the Raiders and/or the A's were in the south bay.

Just a thought that I wanted to post...carry on.

Without picking on stereotypes too badly, are the sort of people who live in silicon valley really the same sort of people who would turn out in droves to support a sports team?

I think you answered your own question Sharpieman. I would think that most people in that area already have a team that they call their own; any new teams coming in would seem to be at a pretty big disadvantage.

I don't know about that ice...combine the huge fan base with the fact that most people from San Jose don't have a team they can call 'their own...' When the Sharks first moved in, San Jose went nuts...albeit for about a year. Give them a team in a mainstream sport, and I'm sure you'd have all sorts of non-sports people all of a sudden becoming die hard fans, without knowing anything.

I think it's more of a case of 'if you build it, they will come.' After a few years, when the wonder has worn off, there will be enough of a fan base to support the team. It would definitely hammer the 49er/Giant fanbase, though, and I can definitely see why they are vehemently opposed to any moves.

Why would they put a football team in SV area? The Raiders can't sell out, I'm not sure about the 49'ers really either. Hell, I think there are more Raider fans in SoCal then NorCal.

The next baseball franchise will end up in DC followed by most likely Portland (which itself has a better fan base then SV).

As for football, I'd like to think LA, but whatever city gives the NFL the biggest bride will probably get it.

Lol, too bad LA fans are fickle as hell. SV would be a way better place for a Football franchise. SV fans have shown that they are loyal with the Sharks franchise. If the Raiders came to the south bay, you would see a good fan base. There are a lot of Raider fans here in the South Bay (unfortunately). LA has been tried, I doubt you'll ever see the Raiders back in LA.

The next baseball franchise will end up in DC or Portland. But I'm talking about the A's moving to the South Bay. The ownership has tried over and over again to convince the MLB to allow them to move the A's to the South Bay. There must be a reason why they keep trying right? Also there is a bunch of South Bay groups vying to buy the A's and move them to the south bay. However, it probably won't happen because of the Giants strangle hold on the South Bay market.

Its called 'start your own league." With the demand for football out there (see previous thread) and no attempted real successor to the USFL, get together some of those big-money folks and start another one. That way nobody tells you where or when to play anywhere.
