*** OOTP 6.03 Patch released! ***

OK, the wait is over

You can get the patch here:
DOWNLOAD 6.03 PATCH

The patch fixes/enhances the following:

- Improved waivers AI. Teams now handle it more carefully (prospects), and also pull players off waivers
if they have no interest in losing them
- Fixed option years counting, in previous versions players had one extra option year (4 instead of 3).
- Fixed Minor league FA toggle, it was reversed.
- Improved game simming speed
- Fixed salary and possible free agent reports. The latter now displays players who have reached 6 years of MLB service
and so are definitely FA at the end of the season.
- Fixed pinch-hit for DH bug
- Improved pitching change logic
- Fixed promotion days importing bug, the game deducted too much cash from teams
- Removed financial figures/options in non-financial leagues
- Tweaked player development to allow slightly more young stars
- Fixed small bugs

Enjoy!

Cheers,
Markus

Example from my test league last night. He hit .300 at age 19/20, 200 hits by age 21/22.

Same here, at least the first part.

I'm glad to see that kind of player is possible now. Not that 4000 hit guys should be a common occurrence, but I've simmed about 200 years in several careers, and never saw anyone get beyond 3600.

He was the only 4,000-hit guy in my overnight sim last night that ran 90+ seasons. Sounds good to me.

Further data on that league...

(and actually I was slightly incorrect. It ran from 2004-2091: 88 seasons.)

3 hitters had 3,500+ hits....4279, 3904, 3659 were the top 3.

7 hitters had 700+ homers....top three were 849, 777, 737 (before y'all go gettting alarmed, keep in mind that this is 88 seasons run with current home run hitting totals.)

4 players had 800+ SB's.

One pitcher had 300+ wins: 356! (another issue with playing all Modern Era...I use 250 as my HOF benchmark when using Modern...7 had 250+)

Hey Ben, these guys with the records, are they from the intial player pool or are they players that come along during your 88 year?

I see now that the 4000 H guys come along in 2037. What about the others?

I'll have to check, but I'm pretty sure most have been created players.

Most are created players, but #8 all-time HR guy (689) was in the original pool. He was 24 when the pool was created, and was in the bigs from day 1. Why?

I just wanted to make sure they were created.

You get the 19-22 year olds in the intial player pool that are ML ready as superstars. I was wondering if any of those guys was one of those.

Oh yeah! I had one of those in the league I used for my first OOTP Dynasty thread. He was 19 or 20 and hit 30ish HR's in his first year. I didn't run across any guys like that in this patch.

Why y'all just focusing on player development? How about some comments on AI roster management and GM stuff?

Just looking over the HTML from the test league I'm running right now, it appears that there's another good sign for player development. I'm seeing more under-30 players among the league leaders than I saw in previous iterations.

One thing I'm noticing fairly consistently with this patch is that 24/25 is the "magic age" for most big-time power hitters, meaning that even if they hit the bigs at a younger age, that tends to be the first 30-HR year. I've seen a few exceptions, which is good.

Anyone hit the wall at age 21 like Andruw Jones?

I was thinking the same thing. I haven't seen anyone like him ever in OOTP. Of course, I don't know if there's ever been another player in MLB with a development curve quite like his...

My understanding is that it is going to be in an update, not a patch.

Minor league Free agent stil broken in Patch 6.03

the minor league free agent seems broken still..

if you have it enabled in league setting and goto salary reports , the report dont show some minor league players listed as "Minor League FA next year"..

but if you have it disabled in league setting and goto salary report in front office, the report will show some minor league player listed as "Minor League FA next year"

Also the ones that says "Minor league Fa next year" on the salary report and you click on there player card or player html card it shows Minor League Free Agency : Not eligible yet... why the player salary report saying he a minor league free agent next year and the player says not eligible?

check this out and you will see..

Also Markus said "Fixed Minor league FA toggle, it was reversed." for patch 6.03. Now that making me wonder if that was really fix too...

Re: Andruw Jones.

There's another plausible explanation beyond a weird development curve. Birth date.

His OPS has been better than age 21 in 3 of the 6 years since then too.

Now maybe you meant "hit the wall" differently than I took the phrase.
When I hear that, I usually associate it not only with the end of progress but also with a subsequent decline. What Jones look like to me is more of a case of "hitting the ceiling", he's been only a bit better than at age 21, but there's not been any sort of sharp decline either.

Maybe I should have used the term "plateau." I meant it as, he hit the wall and just leveled off.

That works, and I certainly wouldn't argue against it. I was just a little confused (not exactly a unique state for me either ) .

Yeah. I guess I should have clarified as well. I don't recall a player being as good offensively as Andruw at 20/21 who hasn't gotten much better.

Postscript on this. I'm now up to 2082 on the career that I uploaded in 2054. There is one 4,000-hit guy, and no one has eclipsed 700 homers (although there is a 35-year-old with 649 who looks like a virtual lock, considering he's hit 50+ in each of the last five seasons). Eight guys have 600+. #'s 2-19 in all-time wins have 278 down to 218 wins, but the top pitcher has 359.

Sigh. It appears only fast-simmers need to apply.

Much of the talk regarding 6.0-6.02 was focused on waivers, 40-man rosters, trade AI and the like, and then all I see here is focusing on a player 50 years from now?

Playing historical leagues with Lahman (or Ankit) consist of much different player development equations. But common to all solo play, regardless how one does it, is the competitiveness of the AI. That's why I asked.

andy m: That's not true. Go read my 1960s St Louis Cardinals dynasty and see how someone can have great fun playing solo OOTP. It's not as competitive as MP OOTP but it is fun in many other ways - for some.

After 100 years...

1 player with >4,000 hits (4094)
12 with 3,500-3,999

1 player with >800 homers (888)
3 with 700-799 (737, 741, 796)
9 with 600-699

Ksyrup will like this: 4 players with >1,000 SB's! (1182, 1070, 1007, 1005). The career leader, with 1,182, was somewhat Henderson-esque. He had only four seasons of >20 HR's, but had a career .382 OBP. The game seems to cap SB's by computer players at around 80. This guy had 65 or more 7 different times. He hit the bigs at age 21, played a full season (with 53 SB's) at 22 and (unlike Henderson) hung 'em up when he was still a pretty solid everyday player. He scored 89 runs, stole 40 bases, and won a Gold Glove at age 41 and hung 'em up after that year--the only time in his career that he struck out over 100 times.

I'm leaving the office now. I'll start this career uploading to the same link. It should be up in an hour or so if all goes well.

So have we confirmed the waiver issue is fixed? No more 5-star prospects being waived and then not pulled back when another team claims them?

As far as I can tell, it is much improved.

The 100-year league update appears to have finished uploading. Have a gander.

Look at your number 2 prospect in the league. Tiger Molina. This is what bothers me about the game.

321/425/588 32 home runs in A ball in 2102 3rd year in single A.
I've got an idea, let's send him back for a fourth year...

95 home runs in single A in 4 years and no promotion?

Here's a completely unrelated question: does anybody know why, in the player's career stats summary, some years include the league abbreviation next to the team abbreviation, and why some years don't? For example (from SkyDog's league):

2031 157 614 185 44 0 10 95 71 45 95 0 0 .301 .349 .422 .771 TB
2032 158 630 203 61 0 26 118 91 45 97 0 1 .322 .367 .543 .910 TB,L1

I see this all the time, and have no idea if it is supposed to mean something or not. I remember this being around back in earlier versions of OOTP as well.

It is included when that player makes the all-star team.

You know, this feature seems like the kind of thing that might best be explained in the documentation that comes with the game. Like in, say, a manual or something.

I thought I'd write a little history of the sub-plots in the career of the league's greatest slugger, Jose "The Sheriff" Gonzalez.

Quote:
Drafted in 1st round, 2nd overall pick, by Toronto in 2070...
Toronto drafts the league's greatest player ever as a 19-year-old second overall, forever sparking debate in New York City, where SS Albert Kamm was drafted 1(1) overall by the Mets. The name "Albert Kamm" appears to be a mere footnote to history, as it can not be found anywhere in the league's rich history--not among team leaders, league leaders, Gold Glove winners, etc. I'll have to check the Almanacs when I get to the office to find out whatever became of "Dat Bum Dey Drafted Insteada Da Sheriff", as Kamm is and forever will be known in Queens.

The Sheriff spends one year in A Ball, and part of another rapidly ascending from AA to AAA to The Show, where he arrives and has a solid half-season at age 20:

From age 21 to 25, he becomes a solid player, his power numbers rising in particular.

At age 26, (his contract year, of course), he breaks out BIG-TIME, putting up bona-fide superstar numbers!

20771565711954515113514512311620.342.458.6921.150TOR,L1

Would this young star stick with the organization that drafted him and nurtured him, and the city that grew to love him, or follow the lure of the almighty dollar? Looks like the choice was easy:

Quote:
Signed as a free agent by Baltimore on 2/22/2078 to a 5-year deal worth $25,265,300 per year...
$25M when he has only had one superstar season! An outrage! Owners all over the league mock O's owner Cal Ripken IV and GM Quint Ripken (Cal V) for this lavish overspending. The Ripkens rationale is that The Sheriff could be the piece that puts a financially successful franchise over the top on the field. After all, they'd turned nice profits for the previous three seasons:

YearWinsLossesPCTPosAttendanceRevenuePayrollProfit/L

20778281.50313064728$89,674,559$71,475,647$18,198,912

20748280.50623324790$91,638,106$93,858,980$-2,220,874

Gonzalez, if it is possible, earns every bit of that $25M with his performance, but the O's can't win the big one despite three division titles in the next five years.

The O's lose in the ALCS to (ironically...) Toronto in both 2079 and 2080. The Sheriff is booed and ridiculed unmercifully in Toronto in 2079 as he struggles to a miserable 2 for 22 (.091) in the ALCS against his former teammates. He redeems himself in 2080, though, hitting .300 with a 1.381 OPS in the ALCS. However, the rest of his team can't do much as they lose again. Finally, in 2081 the O's advance to the World Series after a stirring 4-games-to-3 ALCS over Toronto. However, they fall meekly, 4 games to 1, to the Marlins in the Series. In 2082, the O's miss the playoffs, and Gonzalez has to sit at home and watch Toronto win their third title since he's been gone. (They only made the playoffs once in his seven seasons in Toronto, losing in the '75 Series.) It is too bitter a pill for him to swallow, so after five straight all-star appearances and four MVP's in Baltimore, he decides it is time to move on once again.
Quote:
Signed as a free agent by Montreal on 2/12/2083 to a 6-year deal worth $20,691,000 per year...
The Expos were a recently-profitable franchise that appeared to be on the rise:

20807983.48822938670$96,639,924$63,492,506$33,147,418

Gonzalez stuck with him through nearly the rest of his career, and was rewarded with two World Championship rings finally, at age 35, and again at 40, while finishing out a career that would give him the best power numbers in the 100-year history of the league:

So let me get this straight...the guy hits 80 HRs, drives in 192 runs, hits .357...and he still ends up with a smaller OPS than Barry Bonds has this year?! Ironically, Bonds is hitting exactly .357 right now.

Perhaps by the year 2080, baseball will have done away with the intentional walk...

I just did a quick search for him on the "players" report - nevermind the league leaders, this guy doesn't even show up as having played in the majors.

You gotta love it!

Yeah...the fact that as of now Bonds is on pace for over 220 walks definitely helps his OPS.

I *think* the "players" report only shows active players and guys who are on the all-time leader board. We'll know in a few. I'm at the office now. Going to look at the almanacs...

OK...so Albert Kamm wasn't actually a bum, but it made for a good read, didn't it? Plus, considering how little production the Mets actually got out of him, I'd imagine that despite 300 career homers he was nonetheless STILL known as "Dat Bum Dey Drafted Insteada Da Sheriff"
