OT - I can't post from my own computer

But at least my wife's laptop works just fine.

Here's the deal -- all of a sudden, like starting last night, I can't post anything from my usual computer. (WinMe, Mozilla)

I can log in fine, I can read posts fine, I can do everything right up until I try to post reply. At that point, I get the reply screen, I can enter text into the "Title:" text box, but I can't get into the text box where the post goes. Same result, same problem with both WYSYWIG editor & quick reply options. I simply can't get the cursor to go into the box. Worth noting perhaps is that the WYSYWIG editor does _not_ show the quoted text of the post I'm replying to, it's like the message part of the reply isn't ... fully loading? or something.

My first thought was that it was some sort of new-found (for me) firewall issue, but since this computer is running on the same network, I don't guess that's it.

The only thing that's changed on this computer between posting at 430p yesterday afternoon & last night is a anti-virus update auto-downloaded from McAfee. But I didn't reboot & restart to install that until the morning, well after the problem began sometime last night, so I'm not sure if that's it or not either.

Ideas? Suggestions? I've rebooted, so I don't think that's it. I'm kinda stumped (okay, granted, that's not always hard to do with me & computing, but still ...).

Thanks in advance, otherwise I'll be lurking.

Jon

Okay, I've narrowed down the problem. I'm now posting in basic mode, not advanced WYSYWIG & it'll post just fine.

And it appears that "standard" mode works fine too.

Which means I'm at least as confused, if not moreso, than I was before.

It's something to do with the WYSYWIG version. At the point it normally loads in the message box, fills in the quoted post, etc, there's a rapid, repeating flurry of "transferring data from ..." indicators, it's very much like some part of the data transfer is being rejected/blocked, and therefore isn't loading.

Is there a firewall and/or anti-virus expert in the house?

BTW, dumb Jon realized he ought to try the whole sequence with anti-virus turned off. Alas, it changes nothing.

I have to use basic mode at work. ActiveX controls are turned off due to an IE security hole that has yet to be plugged by Microsoft. Likely the AV update is trying to plug that hole as well.

Thanks gstelmack, it's at least encouraging to know I'm not the only single person who runs into something like this.

The thing that has me puzzled right now though is this -- if it was the AV update that created the situation suddenly, shouldn't things go back to "normal" if I disable the AV?

Another possible clue (for any inspired sleuths out there) -- I'm now unable to get to my customized page at myway.com -- for that matter, I'm intermittently unable to access anything from myway.com at all. FTR, they had the same sort of problems last week (the day akami or whatever its name is got hit so hard), so I'm not sure whether it's related to my FOFC posting troubles or not, could be pure coincidence.
