THE Fantasy Football League

I don't know how many official FOFC Fantasy Football Leagues there are out there but I want to make one that will blow an "others" there might be!

I am talking about a huge Fantasy Auction-Keeper league that will become the focus of much discussion around here for years to come.

I am thinking 12 teams (could be 14 or 10 depending on interest).

We will host the league on Fanball.com or some similar league manager. We will have a $50 entry fee that will help pay for the league manager and also have a nice, reasonable pot for the winner. It is my experience that fantasy league do not generate much owner participation without a little something behind it. That $50 can be made lower (as low as $30 or up to how ever high we feel comfortable with). We will put the money in a paypal account that will not be touched until the end of the season.

We will have an auction-keeper league format with an extended draft procedure. This means that we will set up a league forum and start bidding on players as soon as we get the official league constitution with league scoring, starting positions, and many other rules established and ratified. What this does is makes sure everybody gets a fair shot at the players they want and we wont have to worry about getting the whole league into a chat room for a clustered, 8-hour draft session. We will have a few players every few days until the season starts and people can do what they want when they have the time!

We will work out all of the rules together and then start the league. We will most likely have a protection plan and auction off the players that were not protected and the rookies in the off-season(s).

This is serious. I have talked to a few other FOFCers that might be interested in doing something like this and we could really start something special for years to come!

If you are even remotely interested in this please post here or feel free to PM me for more details. Suggestions are welcome and we will see what we can come up with (including a league name).

Yeah, we will go slow with the draft and that way people will have time to do a little research before they make all their picks.

I'd potentially be very interested, pending the keeper rules, as I'm already involved in a couple keeper leagues so I'd probably shy away from another similar such league, but I am actively seeking a dynasty/contract league whereby entire rosters are kept from year to year, complete with salary caps and contracts, etc etc.

Absolutely, we want to make this as realistic and involved as possible. Could you help with that part of the league constitution?

Any chance on not doing an auction? If so, I'm game.

Yeah, I'd prefer a non-auction also. I really like the career league thing, but I think that the salary will really hurt alot of people who aren't used to playing in such a league.

I recently ran across a very interesting way to draft a new dynasty league - silent auction. The one caveat is that it requires the use of a 3rd party, independent of the league, so the commish couldn't run it - we'd need a 'draft administrator' if you will, but I wouldn't think that would be a problem to find in this community.

I haven't actually participated in this type of drafting style, yet, (we're still a week or two away from it) but it seems to me the main pros include: efficiency (speedy draft), salaries/contracts are set during the draft (through the bid process), and fairness (everyone has an equal chance to every NFLer).

I won't hash through all of the gory details behind the silent auction approach, but basically, as this particular league did it, everyone filled out a spreadsheet of 20 NFLers they want, plus their bid on him, and the draft admin went through and assigned the winning bids. If two people bid the same amount, the one who placed him higher on his draft sheet got him. If both bid the same amount AND had him slated in the same position, the next step was a 'bid-off' (also silent) b/w the two tied dudes. After this round is complete, including any bid-offs, then another round of 20 NFLers were bid on in the same fashion. There are some other caveats we could tinker with, but that's the nuts and bolts of it.

I would love to do a FOFC dominated EFS league. I have another team in it, and its awesome.

The auction part was one of the main features that I wanted to have in the league. Believe me, last year was my first time doing an auction draft and it is not very hard at all. If you do a little research and read some good articles, you will be just as far as the next guy. We will go slow and any questions will be answered.

This looks good from what I saw. Any more information you can give us on it other than what the site says?

This is another intriguing idea. Let's look more into this.

bryce and MrBug - I have added you guys to the committed list, is that cool?

A question about the EFS leagues. It seems cool, I am reading the rules and all that but is it $65/per team? If so, is there a pot to be won or not? It just seems like a lot without winning anything, although it does look like a ton of fun!

Nice. We are generating some nice interest. I sent out some PM's, hopefully we can get our 12 and start nailing things down.

Again, if you are even remotely interested in joining post or PM me and we will talk further.

The $65 is just for the service yes. Any 'pot' would need to be done externally. I have a team in it, and it is so much a better value than the $20-$30 per team that ESPN/Sportsline charge. But I can certainly understand people balking at the price.

Sounds like a great time but it will probably be too much money. I am going to talk further with bryce about this "silent auction" idea he is proposing.

We are not counting this out yet though.

Awesome. I have sent out a few more PM's and a couple other guys have committed!

I am looking into the "silent auction" to see if it is a viable way of doing things. I will post the link here for the rest to check out. Post if you feel it is something we should do.

Oh we will. This is a whole other matter. We are still waiting for the new version of BOSI to come out and we will get that back up and running, believe me I am looking forward to it.

As for this league. We have six definate owners and four on the fence. Current owners feel free to invite or scout out a couple more. If they want in that is cool.

I have extended some invitations to non FOFCers (from FFToday and Fantasy Football Cafe boards) to join us in the discussion and set up of our fine league! This should get us closer to completing registration and start up on the season!

Another thing that was brought to my attention was the possibility of doing our auction on fantasyauctioneer.com which would let us do it for free. Yet another possibility.

I want in. You can count on another slot filled. This sounds cool and getting in on the ground floor is awesome.

I'd like to do an auction silent or live. If people are interested in a live auction I found a site that would make it take about as long as a normal live draft. It is www.fantasyauctioneer.com and it is free until Aug 20th if people are interested. It's seems like a fun way to go as long as people have given it a test drive before hand and know how it works.

Either way this is sweet.

Awesome. Nice to have you guys. You have been added to the list.

Look for our own message board coming soon. Anybody have any suggestions on a good one. We can use MrBug's webspace for it.

I like the fantasy auctioneer and that is another possibility. Again, we would have to find the time to get all 12 owners there at the same time and that could be hard. I am leaning towards the idea of having an auction on a message board. Something like 10 players a day...if a bid is idle for 24 hours the person gets the player...again, we will work it all out when we get our own board set up!

Phillies- we will hold a spot. If he is in, we will be at 9!

UPDATE! We have our own league forum! I just set up a free one and while it isn't the prettiest thing in the world, it will do. If we find something nicer we can go that route but right now we just need our own place to start nailing things down.

Check it out at: http://ffauction.proboards34.com/index.cgi

We will obviously leave this thread going until we fill up. Right now we have 9 members and need 12. I know a few of you guys are on the fence but now is the time to act and get in this great league!

I will send out PM's and start getting all of the owner information, including e-mail, AIM, best ways of getting a hold of you...stuff like that.

Also, start thinking of a league name and your team name!!!

We are getting some damn good discussion over at our boards about contracts, starting lineups, scoring system and all that. If you are in the league make sure you get your votes in!!
