Anyone have an iPod?

Thinking of getting one on my next overseas trip.

Any reviews, thought, etc... good or bad.

This has nothing to do with sport... but I know there are lots of... well some... bright people here.

Thanks

I have one, a 40 gigger, and am super happy with it.

Good to see you around. Have I just been missing you or is this a rare appearance?

I got one for my birthday. It's awesome. I don't leave home without it, plug it in at work and hook up speakers to it, and play it. I had to bring it back once and they exchanged it no hassle, so the warranty is good. I only have a 15 gigger, but it works for what I have.

Thanks for the info.

Was there some issue with batteries? I seem to recall something...

Fritz - thanks for noticing - I am making a somewhat rare appearance... but hope to be around more often in the future.

I have one too (15 gb) and very happy with it. I have a dock at work that I plug into, so I really never use the battery. But the "knock" on the iPod is that the batteries can die out pretty quickly (some reports had them going at 18 months) and it's not something that can be easily replaced. In response to this criticism, Apple has made available a 3 year warranty (applecare) for $60, the biggest benefit of it is that it covers the battery. I personally don't have this, and, truthfully, most people who buy them pass, but if battery life is a concern, it might be something to think about.

Definitely invest in something to protect it. They get scratched really easily, especially the screen. I picked up a clear case from Speck Products (http://www.speckproducts.com/newflipstand/index.html) that I like quite a bit, but there's a ton of stuff out there. After I got that case, I found a site where they cover your ipod in some sort of protective material in various colors which I was pretty intrigued by. I can't find that link anymore.

ipodlounge.com is a GREAT resource.

I have a 40 GB one and I love love love it.
Ditto on ipodlounge.com (it's actually in my bookmarks toolbar!).

I only had one issue with it. When I upgraded the hardware by downloading what I needed from apple, it reset my preferences so I ended up "sync on connect" and thus wiping out a good portion of my songs (since I rarely store much of anything on my computer music-wise). It meant I had to go through and re-install a lot of music, but that has so far been a one-time thingie...

Ditto what everyone else said - iPods are lovely things. The battery and scratching issues are the main things to be aware of, in my opinion.

does the Ipod have a way to use it with an AC adaptor? I was thinking about getting one for work, but I need something that can last 11 hours without being recharged.

I posted a threat a week or two ago about which mp3 player was the best. It was pretty much a unanimous vote for the Ipod. Got a 15 GB and love it to death. Pricey, but worth it. My dad thought it was so cool he got my mom to buy him one for Father's Day.

The Ipod is great. I have a 10 gig (not big enough). Make sure to get a case for it. The flip stand is really nice.

yep - they all come with one.

I do the same thing - I keep the dock and AC Adapter at work. when I get there, I just pop in the iPod and leave it plugged in. I bought a 2nd firewire cable to plug into my PC at home, so when I take the iPod home to load on more songs, I don't need anything else.

If you go to audible.com, and sign up for a year subscription, you get $100 of an ipod or ipod mini. I would get the ipod since it has more space.

thanks for the replies...

...here is a silly question... can you go jogging with them? i.e. does the bouncing around affect the music in any way (skipping)?

A friend of mine that I run with has it clipped onto his while he runs, and he has never complained about it skipping... so as far as I know, the bouncing doesn't affect them.

they can also be kept in the human rectum for at least 72 hrs, with no ill effects.
