Cool OT: I'm eligible for advancement!

Woo!

I found out today I'm eligible for advancement to E-6! I previously believed I wouldn't be eligible until March of 2005. The advancement exam will be in September. I should find out the results in November or December. Looks like I need to get studying! Wish me luck!

If you'd quit hanging around racetracks, you'd probably be an admiral by now.

Example of a question on a test:

Which of the following solid-state devices has both gain and fast switching capabilities?

1. Zener diode
2. Tunnel diode
3. Junction diode
4. Point-contact diode

Kudos to the first person that gets it.

It's not Zener because I remember studying those and don't remember anything resembling "fast switching". So it's one of the other three. There's my contribution.

Kudos to the first person that gets it.

I'm very rusty with my electronics knowledge, but I'll go with junction diode.

Anyways, I hope you are one of the 103.

Heh. I didn't make it. I don't know the details (where I ranked in the promotion list) as of yet.

March is the next exam. I've been studying for it anticipating I wouldn't be advanced this time.

Bah, think of all the doorknob ET1s you know.

Out of curiosity, 103 out of how many eligible ET2s?

I'm not sure. The percentage of those that made it hasn't been released yet.

Attention workers, we have completed our evaluation of the plant. We regret to announce the following lay-offs, which I will read in alphabetical order: Simpson, Homer. That is all.

I did far better than the other three in my office on the exam. I did better than 70% of other electronic technicians that took the test. That made me feel good.

As for the final multiple (which factors my test score, awards, evals, and such), I finished 22 points off the pace. That was still good for first in my shop, which really ticked off a guy who has taken this test before.

Oddly enough, I only got 3 questions out of 10 on sexually transmitted diseases (this section was testable under "basic military knowledge"). Apparently, FOFC hasn't taught me nearly enough.
