OOTP-Retirement Issue
With no injury, at the age of 37, coming off an MVP season, on the verge of the home run record, Sammy Sosa retires. He still have great ratings, anyone else notice players that retire early? And is this common for players to retire like this in the MLB today?

It happens sometimes. If anything, OOTP6 may let stars go a little TOO long. Overall, though, it does a pretty good job. Sometimes in OOTP6 (and IRL), guys retire early.

Maybe 2005 saw a severe shortage in the world's cork production.

I think there is an unretire utility somewhere. Not sure if Pierre (or whomever did it) updated it for v6, but you can unretire anyone, especially people who are close to milestones or something. Maybe he's like Sandy Koufax or Barry Sanders and wanted to go out on top.

Was he under contract at the time, or would he have been a FA?

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe he was still under contract. |

I agree. OOTP6 is better than its predecessors in keeping guys from hanging around too long, but there are still too many hangers-on. IRL players like to leave while they can still play instead of waiting until they are a shadow of their formal greatness. Call it pride. |
