Catastrophe in NJ area?

My mom tends to GREATLY overexagerate things. She just called me a few minutes ago all excited (bad news really excites her sometimes - in a sort of morbid way) She stated that due to severe rain in NJ thirteen dams broke in the Camden County area and that around Cooper Hospital the area is under water. I used to live on River Road in Pennsauken and did my clinical rotations at Cooper Hospital when I was a medical student and she says that area is completely underwater. I asked her to quantify and she couldn't in any meaningful way. Anyway, I'm asking my NJ bretheren on the board, is there really a disaster in the area?

A "disaster"? I wouldn't go that far. Several towns are underwater and have been since early AM hours yesterday (so almost 2 full days of being "underwater"). A lot of dams have broke and Route 70 is closed because part of a bridge was destroyed by the flood waters.

Lumberton was probably the hardest hit. Most of the bad stuff happened in Burlington County.

That's the last I heard, anyway. The rain that just happened an hour ago might have done some bad stuff I haven't heard about yet.

Just checked weather.com and we just had a huge storm pass by not too long ago that I'm sure made things worse, and if more dams broke, a lot worse. And it looks like we're about to get hit with another (but not as bad) storm. So by tomorrow it actually could be far worse than it already is.

Like I said, my mom greatly overexagerates these sort of news reports. She is a very sweet woman who is sadly stricken by hyperbole in these situations. What you are saying, sounds more in line with reality. However, I did live right off of the intersection of Route 70 and 38, so the area where I used to live may actually be experiencing some significant hardship.

Yeah, it's been raining non-stop for like 3 days after no real rain for about 10 days prior. Due to the population density, shit floods immediately around here (we've mowed down everything that would have soaked it up).

My basement is taking on some water, which is pretty f'in annoying.

The rain has sucked, but the question is: Will it be raining for my 11:40 tee time on Friday?

Good luck with that. I just hope the flooding basement doesn't get downgraded (upgraded?) from f'in annoying to something worse. I'd make a crack about not gameplanning for the Vipers, but flooding is a little too serious to be joking around about it. Again, good luck.

Oh, it's not even a serious issue in my county. I think it's worse North of here.

It's just an annoyance for me. My export has already been sent.

I grwe up in a number of the townships in Monmouth - Fair Haven, Rumson, Redbank, etc and frequented the shore at places like Bradley, Avon, and of course Sandy Hook. When I was driving the coast a few years ago I could not believe how bad Asbury Park looked. I was like a seaside amusement town suddenly had all the people sucked out of it 20 years ago and only a few straggles have wandered back in. When ever I see Chernoble pics I think of Asbury Park. It is a place that looks like it should be vibrant, but just isn't.

miked - i grew up in montclair, too. crazy.

as for asbury park - i also lived down the shore, and have thought a lot about buying property in AP. there are constantly stories about so and so putting a lot of money into renovating the city...and at some point, you figure its got to happen. its too close to new york and the shore NOT to come back. the question is when.
