Braves seize first place alone with sharp performance

John Smoltz picked up the save -- with a little defensive help from Rafael Furcal.

Mike Hampton is beginning to look like more than a weak link in the Braves' starting rotation, and the Phillies look like something less than a formidable obstacle to the Braves' divisional reign.

With a stirring 4-2 victory against Philadelphia on Monday night at Turner Field, the Braves moved into sole possession of first place in the NL East, the first time the 12-time division champions have been alone atop the standings.

"The important thing is to be in first place when the season's completed," Bobby Cox said after his 1,600th victory as a major league manager. "That's our goal. We'll try to stay there until then."

The Braves' 16th win in 20 games wasn't secure until shortstop Rafael Furcal leaped high to grab David Bell's liner with runners at first and third to end the game, giving Hampton his fourth win in five starts and John Smoltz his 18th save.

"I had to stop that ball any way I could, because we've got runners on third and first," said Furcal, who timed his jump perfectly. "I feel so good. It's the first time we've been [alone] in first place."

Hampton (5-8) allowed a run in the first inning and no more until Jim Thome's homer in the seventh. He's 2-0 with a 1.25 ERA in three starts against the Phillies this season, including two wins in the past nine days.

The left-hander benefited from more than nine support runs per nine innings in his previous four starts, but support Monday came from flashy defense, including spectacular outfield catches by Andruw Jones and Charles Thomas.

"I'm throwing more quality strikes, getting ahead more often and challenging hitters," Hampton said. "Give all eight guys behind me credit tonight. Every time things looked like they could have gone bad, we had guys putting gloves on the ball."

The Braves (49-43) moved to six games over .500 for the first time. They had been locked in a first-place tie with the Phillies, who've lost 16 of 31 and fell to second place, a game behind the Braves and two games ahead of the Mets and Marlins.

The Phillies are 10-21 against the Braves, Mets and Marlins and haven't won a series against any of them.

The teams conclude their two-game set tonight. The Braves then have two games against Pittsburgh to end the homestand before going to New York to face the Mets.

After Hampton gave up two runs and five hits in seven innings, Smoltz was overpowering over the final two innings, allowing one hit and striking out four.

"Games like this don't come around too often," said Smoltz, who has worked 1 1/3 innings or more in nine of his past 17 appearances, with three two-inning saves. "The crowd was into it; the team played great defense. We did what we had to do to win it."

But not without some moments of consternation.

With two outs and a runner at second in the ninth, Smoltz struck out Ricky Ledee swinging at strike three, but the ball got past catcher Eddie Perez for a passed ball, and Ledee went to first base, putting runners on the corners.

Bell lined a two-strike pitch toward left field, but Furcal leaped to bring it down.

J.D. Drew extended his career-best hitting streak to 16 games with a fifth-inning single, and Chipper Jones drove him in with a double to give the Braves a 4-2 lead.

After Thome's homer, the Phillies had runners at first and second with one out in the seventh. Hampton induced a grounder from Mike Lieberthal, and Chipper Jones started a nifty double play that drew a roar of approval from a crowd of 25,790.

Thome's homer was his major league-leading 31st and the first that Hampton has allowed by a left-handed batter this season.

Paul Abbott (0-4) was charged with four runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings and fell to 0-8 in his past 14 starts with Tampa Bay and Philadelphia.

Atlanta took a 2-1 lead in the second inning when Johnny Estrada drew a leadoff walk and went to second on a wild pitch. Adam LaÂRoche doubled to the right-center gap to drive in a run, and Andruw Jones singled to center to score LaRoche.

The Braves scored a run in the fourth when Andruw Jones hustled on a bloop double up the right-field line and scored on Thomas' single.

I dunno... I know it comes built-in to Mozilla FireFox... Once you try it, you'll never go back.

SPENDING MONEY >>

You will be responsible for your meals on our trip to Crooked Creek and back home. This amounts to 8 meals. You will also want money for snacks, souvenirs, etc. on the trip. $125 would be a good figure to start with.>>

> >

HEALTH AND CONSENT FORMS >>

The health and consent form must be filled out and signed by your parent or guardian. You will not be able to board the bus unless we have these in hand. Please make sure you have included the name of your insurance company and your policy number. You must also fill in all the dates of your immunizations as closely as possible on the health form. For these forms to be valid, we need all of the above information, as well as a parental or guardian signature, and a doctor’s signature. This is required by Colorado State Law.>>

> >

ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT POLICY>>

All personal electronic equipment, with the exception of cameras, will be collected and stored for the week we are at Crooked Creek. Please mark your equipment with your name and “Northlake—GA162.” This policy includes cellular phones as well. >>

> >

PACKING LIMITS>>

We have two nearly full buses (less than 10 empty seats total) and therefore space in the cargo bays will be at a premium. We are asking that you PLEASE limit yourself to ONE large suitcase and ONE carry-on bag. Your carry-on needs to be small enough to fit under your seat, or above your head in the storage space on the bus.>>

>>

HIPAA ISSUES>>

Due to new regulations, only our Administratitve Assistant, the camp medical staff, and Ben will have access to information on your health form. In the past, if there was a student with allergies, an inhaler, etc., Ben would have passed that information on to the student’s cabin leader. By law, he is no longer allowed to do that. The point is this: with over 90 students going on the trip, it is important that if you have health information about yourself that you think it would be important for your cabin leader to know, it is now up to the student or parent to pass that information along.>>

> >

WEATHER>>

Crooked Creek Ranch is located approximately 9,000 feet above sea level. Therefore, the weather is extremely unpredictable, and will often change rapidly. Be prepared for shorts-and-t-shirt weather, as well as jeans-and-sweatshirt weather. Yes, snow is a possibility, but due to the dryness of the air, it doesn’t feel nearly as cold at 30-40 degrees as it does in lace>Georgialace>. Be very wise with your packing, and again, PLEASE don’t bring more than one suitcase!>>

> >

WATER>>

Because of the dry climate and altitude at Crooked Creek, dehydration can become an issue. You would be wise to begin hydrating yourself between now and then. We’d recommend drinking ― gallon of water per day every day between now and then, and when we’re on the trip.>>

Thanks. Going after those right now.

Looks like the Microsoft Word issues exist regardless of browser.

But you can't post from Office documents - I always get the smilies from Word and random garbage from excel.

I use OpenOffice's spreadsheet to post stuff from spreadsheets. Not sure if their word processor will also work better.

Hmm... there's gotta be a workaround for that... maybe save the document as HTML first?

It doesn't appear to be built-in. When I do a Control-N, I get an entirely new instance of FireFox.

That's a good idea. I'll try that. I've been doing my dynasty editing in FrontPage, but it leaves something to be desired. Lemme try that...

Introduction

> >

Robocopy is a 32-bit command-line utility for file replication. This tool helps maintain identical copies of a directory structure on a single computer or in separate network locations.

> >

> >

Important>>

Robocopy version 1.95 requires Windows NT version 4.0 or later.

> >

Using Robocopy, you can copy a single directory, or you can recursively copy a directory and its subdirectories. The program classifies files by whether they exist in the source directory, in the destination directory, or in both. In the latter case, the program further classifies files by comparing time stamps and file sizes between the source file and the corresponding destination file. You control which classes of files are copied.

> >

If a file exists in both the source and destination locations, by default Robocopy copies the file only if the two versions have different time stamps or different sizes. This saves time if the source and destination are connected by a slow network link. You can also specify that copies are restarted in the event of a failure, which saves even more time when your network links are unreliable.

> >

Robocopy allows you to do the following:

· Use file names, wildcards, paths, or file attributes to include or exclude source files as candidates for copying.

· Exclude directories by name or by path.

· Delete source files and directories after copying (that is, move rather than copy them).

· Delete destination files and directories that no longer exist in the source.

· Control the number of times the program retries an operation after encountering a recoverable network error.

· Schedule copy jobs to run automatically.

New Features in Version 1.95

Robocopy version 1.95 includes a number of enhancements. For example, you can now do the following:

> >

> >

> >

>>

> >

> >

You can also right-click on any of your bookmarks from the drop-down menu and select "open in new tab"

It kicks ass.

Hmm... well, I can't seem to get it to work no matter what I do to it (HTML, XML, RTF...)

There's got to be a way...

Two things to try..

Try saving it in word as a .txt file before copying and pasting

or

Copy it from Word to Notepad and then to the board. Might fix it.

Introduction

Robocopy is a 32-bit command-line utility for file replication. This tool helps maintain identical copies of a directory structure on a single computer or in separate network locations.

Important

Hmm... opening the .doc file with wordpad and then copying seems to remove the crap... but some of the formatting is lost...

i'm in the process of making the switch - been surreptitiously using firefox at work (where I do 90% of my surfing). just installed it yesterday on my home machines...very close to making FFox my default browser.
