mel gibson - michael moore

i take no sides, but boy, what a controversal year it could have been for mel gibson! (from imdb.com):

Moore: "Gibson Quit After White House Warnings"

Controversial director Michael Moore claims Mel Gibson backed out of financing his hit documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 after Republican sources told the actor he would never be invited to the White House again. The explosive Palme D'Or-winning documentary, which examines American President George W Bush's decisions following the September 11 attacks and the run-up to the war in Iraq, was rejected by their original financier Icon, owned by Gibson. Moore says, "We were just starting the film when I got a call from my agent who said he'd spoken to someone at Icon who was wondering if there was a way to get out of the deal. They said they'd received calls from several top Republicans - people connected to the White House. These people made it clear that Mel Gibson wouldn't get any invitations to the White House if they went ahead and financed the film." Icon dropped the deal soon after, but luckily for Moore, Miramax boss Harvey Weinstein stepped in and saved the day.

I'd file this right next to his claim that Disney notified him two weeks before Cannes that they wouldn't be distributing his film because the president's brother would withdraw tax credits.

Why would a obviously Religious Right person have funded a predominantly lefty film to begin with. This smells of crappola to me.

Sounds like Moore is trying to keep his movie in the news for a little while longer.

Can we send him after PETA or something? How about deep undercover on an expose of the turtles of the galapogos islands?

Actually, Edward the Longshanks offered to buy Gibson off with a chest full of gold, but instead Gibson scoffed and said "Slaves are made in such ways!" He then proceeded to boink the Princess of Wales, who was a babe but who was also French. This clashed with Mel's whole "Freedom" theme, so he backed out of the war in Iraq.

Or something.
