Pay It Forward, FOFC Style

I got this idea from Gone Gold and wanted to see if it'll work over here, with a couple of changes in the rules.

Here's the concept:

I'll offer two games up for free. To claim one of them, you must post next and offer up some PC game that is current and of like value. Then someone will claim that one and offer something else up.

There will be two "tiers" of games - ones that are current (and expensive) and ones that aren't.

Please note that I won't be getting anything back - I'm essentially giving away two games for free. If you want to take pitty on me, I'd love to find a complete version of HOMM 3 and the expansion to SMAC (but I don't have any more games to send back to you). In some way, I'm doing this to pay tribute to Jon and Sovereignstar - Jon sent me SMAC free and Sovereignstar gave me a good deal on CM 03/04.

The Rules:

1. I'll moderate this thread to make sure that the games being offered in a given tier are of like value - that way someone can't claim a Far Cry and then offer up Deer Hunter or some crap like that.

2. Once someone claims that a game you've offered, you must ship the game out in 48 hours. Please use USPS 2-3 day shipping since it can be tracked.

3. You must trade one at a time, but you may trade multiple times. This isn't the "karma" system found at Gone Gold where you can offer 6 crappy games and then try to claim 6 good ones.

4. You must be registered at FOFC for 3 months before participating. Exceptions may be made but you MUST e-mail me for an exception before participating. This is so no one creates an account to "steal" a decent game.

5. Once you've publicly claimed a game (double-check to make sure no one snuck in before you, please), PM the the person sending it with your shipping info. Remember, they have 48 hours to get it out to you.

6. PLEASE, do not break the cycle. We're all really on the honor system and it would be a great disrepect to the members here to try to cheat the system.

More rules may be forthcoming, but I hope not.

So with that, here are the two games being offered up for free:

Expensive Tier Game: NeverWinter Nights with both expansions - I may or may not have the manuals but I do have all the CD keys.

Lower Tier Game: Civilization 3 with manual

So, the first person to post to claim one or the other must at the same time offer one up themselves. Have at 'em and good luck!

What a cool idea!

I'm not interested in either of those two (since I have them already), but I'm definitely in when something I want pops up.

*wipes the dust off of his OOTP5 disk*

I'M KIDDING!

I heard that the last person to break the cycle died three days after they didn't ship out the game!

Also, for every post you make in this thread, Bill Gates, McDonald's, the Democratic National Committee, and the Republic of Taiwan will each pay you $75648 dollars

Seriously though, this is a good idea. Great way to play some games that you never got the chance to.

Cool idea. Unfortunately, I already have both games Blacki offered up, so I'll sit out until one pops up that I don't have yet.

I keep thinking about getting Neverwinter nights, but all I have to offer is Galatic Civilizations which is probably a mid tier game.

Good idea though and I'll also be watching.

Thumbs up

Here's a good laugh for the day. My list of computer games minus the FOF, OOTP, and Fast Break series:

Stable Masters
Chessmaster 5000
Baseball Pro '98
Baseball Pro '94
Civil War Generals 2
Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within
Diamond Mind Baseball 7 & 8
Football Pro '96

heyo!

And I've got a number of unopened CD's and a few music DVD's that people would probably be interested in. I'd even gladly to a 2-for-1 or more on something like that, they've just been collecting dust for over a year, and you get such little value when selling that it's not really worth it to do so.

I like the idea too, but again, I haven't bought a computer game (outside of text sims) in a couple of years.

Perhaps an FOFC Swap Shop is in order?

I would really like to try out neverwinter nights, but the only "newish" games I have are xbox. And they're not even really that new. If I had more to offer I would be up for it. (Story of my life)

I've got to go through my collection and see what I have that's new enough. I'm interested in Neverwinter Nights (already have Civ III), but I haven't bought a PC game in a bit. I do have LOMAC and IL2: Forgotten Battles, but I'm not sure if they are new enough.

Since those two games aren't getting much play, perhaps someone could offer up a different set.

I'll offer up:
Port Royale (PC) {Claimed}
Tropico 2 (PC) {Claimed}

I'd consider both to be lower tier games.

It is a long journey from Gondor to Rohan, but the Nazgul Express will fly with great speed to deliver the artifact you have requested.

I would say people can feel free to just offer up console games. We don't need Blackie's approval dammnit!

Yeah, I think the more offers that are hanging out there, the better this idea will fly. If your game is taken just go back and edit your post to reflect that.

Buzzbee,

I'll take Port Royale off your hands. (PM with info on the way)

To help jumpstart this idea a bit more, I'll throw up for grabs 3 low teir games (also to try to make this multi-platform, I'll offer 1 PC, 1 PS2 and 1 XBox game)

Low Tier PC Game: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (manual, no box) {Claimed}

Low Tier PS2 Game: ESPN College Hoops (last year's version) {Claimed}

Low Tier XBOX Game: Hitman 2 (Platinum Collection)

Ok, I sent two games to fellow FOFC members for FREE. Don't let this act of charity go to waste. Someone either claim a game that has been listed or offer up one of your own dust-catchers. College and Pro football are upon us. If you haven't played that game in 6 months, you ain't gonna play it now. Give someone else a chance.

The idea is to offer up some sort of equivalent. In other words claiming Civ III and offering Virtual Pool would probably be considered bad form. As far as offering up only one game, that is up to you. Feel free to offer up more, if there are several you don't care about parting with. Since you claimed one, offering one equivalent is perfectly acceptable.

You might want to PM Sabotai to arrange the shipment.

I'll claim NCAA March Madness 2003.

I'll offer -
Mid-Tier PS2 Game: NCAA Football 2004 (could be considered low-tier with the new one out, I guess)
Low-Tier PS2 Game: Final Fantasy X

Well my main question is:

Is NHL 2k3 for PS2 about the equivalent? Both are pretty old, but I dont really know. I also have Winning Eleven 6 (PS2), so I can part with that instead if someone wants it.

I'd say NHL2K3 is a little low for Jedi Knight 2.

But it's really up to Sabotai to decide. JK2 is his and he can make the decision whether NHL2K3 is worthy to be ponied up for his game.

It's a little hard to judge. I would say NHL 2k3 would be below "Low Tier". In general, I see Low Tier as games released 1-2 years ago, or older games that stand the test of time. High Tier would be within a year, roughly.

But with sports games, especially the "Big 4" sports, every year a new version comes out. Even though it's been less than 2 years since NHL 2k3 came out, with a version last year and a new one coming soon, I'd say it gets delegated to "Very Low Tier" and just say if a sports game is a year old, it's Low Tier (like above, I listed ESPN College Hoops as Low Tier).

I'd say Winning Eleven 6 is good.

VPI97,

PM me your address and I'll get it out soon.
