you should send him a PM to alert him to the presence of this thread.

FWIW, I have e-mail notification of PM's. A "ping" thread is superfluous.

Considering I responded BEFORE I saw the "Ping", no it isn't.

I was thinking of something more along the lines of "Guy that grated on SkyDog's nerves so much that he left the DKBL."

Consider this my resignation.

I dunno. Apparently I posted there once as a guest, but it seems no one wanted to send me a link after I got back in town, and the first return-of-DKBL sim was done while I was out of town, without any announcement before I left town.

Not that I'm frustrated or anything...

I could go into a fairly typical kcchief-esque rant, but I will just say that I don't believe that sentiment is fair. There were numerous threads here alerting people the league was restarting. Once the decision to restart was made, I don't think you need to wait for one person to respond. Hank and Kyle have done a great job resurrecting the league.

Well my bad. I must have missed. All I saw was the one thread saying that we would be restarting eventually, and I asked for a new one alerting us of the first sim. I must have missed the new one, or it happened after I left town.

Strangely enough, that's why I never got going in that league the 1st time around. After waiting weeks (months it seemed) for some activity, everything happened within the span of 2 days while I was in Vegas. I got back from my trip with about 20 PMs telling me I missed the first sim.

That didn't sit well with me, so I figured, "Why bother?"

You are free to do what you'd like Skydog, I can't make you do anything you don't want to be a part of.*shrugs* I a PM to you before you went on vacation, after you went on vacation (apparenlty), and 2 since you've been back. I replied to your message as soon as you sent it, with the link to the message boards so you would be able to register, and you resign from the league. But blaming it on me because I was "Guy that grated on SkyDog's nerves so he left the DKBL."? Wow, that's real classy of you. So instead of PMing me saying you don't have the interest in the league anymore, you'd thought it would be the right thing to do by post in this thread, while taking a pot shot at me? Let's be a little bit reasonable. I figured you'd be interested in the league from the start so I'm trying to make sure you are set up in the league and everything is picture perfect. But then again, responding to PM's, to myself at least, hasn't been your strong suit.

Forgive me for caring....

A post from the DKBL thread from earlier. Linky

Quote:
Will you make sure to post here when the league is ready to roll again, including giving us at least 48 hours' notice before the next export is due. I'd rather not have to check that message board every day for no new information.

Now, I was doing just that. I also did that to the other owners as well to know if I should keep them or not as owners. Goseahawks hadn't responded in a while and he let Hank know he had computer problems but still wanted to be in the league.

We have this link For the message board

This one
Which gives information on the next sim

The Endless bumping thread
Which has your team saved still and is a reminder about the league

And the last one
Which has you posting in a forum, banning someone, and giving instruction on what to do and the address of the message board.

Ah. I now see what happened and how the misunderstanding occurred.

Quote:
We have this link For the message board
That must have been the one that I saw early on, but since it was just a message board, I didn't follow it.

My trip (not a vacation, but a work trip) left on 7/13 and returned on 7/18. If I recall, based on the speed in the past, and the comment that we were waiting on BOSI, it never occurred to me that things would be up and running that fast.

Given that it started on the night before I left, initially didn't have any new information in it, and essentially ended 2 full days before I returned (with one bump three days later--after I'd already figured out that I missed a sim)

That's the one where I posted requesting notice of the sim starting, then didn't read again until someone reported to me that someone needed to be banned. As a general rule, if there's a long thread of no interest to me (which that one became after the "BOSI is easily weeks away" comment), with no posts from me for a while, then a disciplinary action, it is safe to assume that someone alerted me that action needed to be taken--and that was the case in that thread.

At any rate, perhaps my frustration should be with the league in general, and not you. All I know is that in this league....

1. I was chastised multiple times for not posting IMMEDIATELY to the message board back when it was germinating (no sims, mind you, just a message board).
2. There was some kind of scandal and bad name-calling, and I'm still not sure what that was all about, and where culpability lies (nor do I care), but the bottom line is that it caused a slow-down.
3. I submitted sims, yet my team remained set to be managed by the computer, causing the computer to make some moves I didn't want made.
4. It seemed that every time I checked the message board, it didn't see my cookies and I had to re-login.
5. I mentioned problems 3 and 4 more than once, with very slow help getting them fixed.
6. I was told that we'd re-start once BOSI came out, and the earliest date mentioned was "easily weeks away still."
7. I left town, and returned to find that BOSI was released while I was gone, and another sim occurred.

Now, I fully realize that 6 and 7 were cases of unlucky timing, but after dealing with 1 through 5, they just became further frustrations--not with any individual, mind you, just the whole thing in general. So, when I saw the PM along with a "PING", it just grated on me the wrong way. Sorry that I probably miscast some of the general frustrations on one person.

I'm not sure where this comment comes from. Looking back, I received mass informational PM's (that didn't ask for or require any PM response) from you on 7/10, 7/15 and 7/20. The only PM I'm seeing from you that was to me individually was on 7/22--the one you pinged me about. You sent it at 9:32PM, and I responded at 9:33PM. I don't refresh the message board every minute, but my e-mail client does d-load e-mail every minute, so I get PM notifications very quickly, and if it is something that requires a response, I try to do so. I have checked my inbox dating back to before OOTP6's release, and I don't see any others besides those I mentioned. Am I missing something?

Now I'm going to start by saying that I obviously don't have a dog in this fight, so anybody & everybody can feel quite free to disregard my comments as being totally irrelevant. But from the outside looking in, I'd say you are missing something here ... but maybe not what some people think.

You said:
Quote:

With that in mind, it strikes me that what you're "missing" is that points 1 thru 3 seem pretty par for the course for every MP league I've ever been involved with or particularly aware of. If not in specifics, then at least in general areas of problems. Granted, maybe it's just the ones with ... "issues" that get more publicity & therefore give an unfair picture, but that hasn't been my experience, and I believe my first MP league was an FPS Baseball league, so it's not exactly like I'm 100% new to the niche.

It's really a pretty simple formula IMO -- MP leagues involve people, people are both falliable and prone to being PITA's in some form or fashion. The more people involved in pretty much anything, the higher the odds that you'll encounter those failings and seem to increase the odds on finding at least one major PITA exponentially.

After seeing this thread last night, I went back & searched up the DKBL threads from the past 2 months & it looked to me like one of those cases where timing met opportunity and a situation just sort of happened. Not quite human error, not quite anybody being a jerk intentionally, but just a convergence of circumstances that created a bit of a PITA.

I guess what I'm saying here, from the outside looking in, is that I understand your frustration even if there wasn't anything intentional done by anybody. I'm just not quite sure why any of this comes as much of a surprise to you, it seems to be the SOS I've seen from more MP situations than I can count. As you referenced yourself in another thread, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Just .02 from the peanut gallery.

1. No one ever chastised you. The point of getting people to post on the new site was to see who we retained from the old DKBL site.
2. who cares?
3. that was fixed ages ago.
4. you never even made a forum account on the new site, so it cant remember what doesnt exist.
5. Atlanta was set to Human controlled. Its been fixed since Bug took command.
6. Someone mentioned BOSI, but not the Commish or myself.
7. See 6. Also, i will not deploy BOSI until they fix major security issues.

I see no reason to be frustrated. How can you be frustrated at someone whos only getting your attention so you dont miss out on something you wanted to be a part of? It seems like youre holding onto issues from the 'old' league that have nothing to do whats going on right now.

1. Yes, someone did. The first league message board went up right around the time of the initial druez/Joe Stallings blow-up. Because of that, I didn't have time to register for the board to vote in some poll or another, and some guy seemed ready to kick me out because of that.

Quote:
2. who cares?
I don't care about the blow-up itself, but I do care that it cause the already-waning interest I had to lower even more.

Quote:
3. that was fixed ages ago.
Good, but I'm talking about the entire history of the league. It was a factor that was frustrating.

Old forum.

Again, that's fine, but it was another thing that added to the accumulated frustration.

Is MrBug not the commish? He seems to have been the one driving the re-start and he sure mentioned that we were waiting on it.

Unless we had done a complete re-start, then it is the same league. I had a team that had several players who were dropped/added by the computer. That is going to taint my view of the league, and cause me to lump all of it into one.

Guys just don't worry about it. Skydog obviously doesn't really want to be a part of this league anymore, and its his right to do so. The league is doing great on its own. We actually have 3 sims a week, and on schedule to boot! I'm plesantly surprised. I thought that the league was totally in the trash after the old crew decided to stop running it. Instead thanks to Bug and Chinaski I think we are in much better position that we were before. Thanks guys!

Who cares if he's not in this league? Why is it so important that he joins? Obviously every attempt to attract him to re-join has been made, and it' just not meant to be. Everyone may kiss up to him here, but I see no reason to treat him any preferential treatment over at DKBL.
