Vikings Sign Lesner

Just read it on KFFL. Personally I'm surprised by this, I didn't think he'd get a contract with the Vikings.

Minnesota? Makes perfect sense. Well, maybe Green Bay would've been better, I don't know.

Terms not disclosed, but I doubt they paid him too much.

Vikings sign former pro wrestler Lesnar

By BOB SANSEVERE

Pioneer Press

Vikings coach Mike Tice said the team will sign former NCAA champion and pro wrestler Brock Lesnar to a contract and bring him to training camp, which begins Friday in Mankato, Minn.

Tice made the decision after putting Lesnar through strenuous 45-minute workout this morning. Tice said Lesnar, who hasn't played football since high school, would play the same defensive tackle position as veteran Chris Hovan.

"I'm excited. All I ask for is the opportunity, and he's given me that," said Lesnar, 6-foot-3, 286 pounds.

Tice said Lesnar will sign a contract after taking a physical later today.

Hey, if nothing else, if a touchdown celebration is getting out of hand, he can F5 the offending party and get the game back on the go.

when they are playing green bay, he should run out onto the field while they vikes have the ball and blindside culpepper, then rip off his jersey to reveal a packer jersey underneath. they could have screaming announcers and everything

Post of the day in my opinion, especially being a Packer fan.

How old is this guy anyways?

I just hope his first touchdown isn't overturned because the ref had been knocked out with a folding chair.

Glad to hear it. I've been rooting for him since he decided to give the NFL a shot. And wouldn't it be soemthing if he did reveal another team's jersey underneath his Vikings jersey.

He will just wear a mask like Ray Mysterio Jr instead of a helmut and shoulder pads like the Legion of Doom. When he becomes a bad guy, he won't worry about offsides penalties that are really obvious, but the dipshit ref misses.

He'll have a wrench in his sock, and clober some guy over the head. I think that would beat the Sharpie talk.

Swami says...

He will be either make the developmental squad, have an "injury" that puts him on the physically unable to perform list or will not finish training camp.

ESPN says the deal is for 1 year 230,000 dollars. Seems like a good gamble at that price.

This thread is full of funny quotes. From "everybody jobs to Triple H" to giving the F5 to a TD celebrator, it's classic.

I'm surprised he didn't sign with Jacksonville to chop some wood.

If nothing else I suspect they'll make a decent amount of that back in Lesnar jersey sales.

If he makes it with the team, it will most likely be on the practice squad or physically unable to perform list for this year.

I doubt seriously he could make the team, but i'm pulling hard for him just because of the visuals he could provide if he turned out to be half way decent. Holy crap! I just realized that this could get me to watch a meaningless pre season game that doesn't involve the Eagles.

Would he really be an RFA? I thought that only happens if the team drafted the player.

I'm pretty sure he would be an RFA. But since he wasn't drafted, it wouldn't cost other teams anything to sign him away (Vikes do get the chance to match though).

Does this mean Lesnar is totally done? Or can he still be assigned to NFL Europe or something?

The ESPN article quotes Tice as suggesting NFL Europe for him "hopefully as a Viking", and Lesnar's agent says either a practice squad or NFL Europe or maybe some combination of both is what he's planning.

From Vikings Update:

DT Brock Lesnar will be cut Tuesday. That will bring an end -- at least for this season -- to the experiment that saw the former WWE champion try to make an NFL roster after having not played since high school nine years ago. It's doubtful Lesnar will be put on the practice squad. He earned the Vikings' respect because of his work ethic and professional attitude, but he's too raw to take up a valuable spot on the practice squad. Lesnar hasn't ruled out a return to pro wrestling, but he might try other avenues in football. One possibility is NFL Europe next spring. The Vikings might re-sign him and allocate him. Or Lesnar could try to join the league on his own with a recommendation from the Vikings.

Lesnar comes on KFAN quite often, and he was on this morning and Tice called in and said that he would probably be getting a practice squad spot soon.
