Hey guys, long time no see. I was curious if any of you were familiar with the Lexington, VA area, or W&L University. I recently accepted a position there as an assistant volleyball coach, and wanted to see if anyone new much about the area...

I've been there a few times, it's a very beautiful town and campus, I can tell you that much.

Ditto. I almost attended W & L because they wanted me to join the wrestling team. But in the end, they just didn't offer what I was looking for academically (W&L - top notch liberal arts; VT - top notch technical). Despite having two colleges (VMI is located adjacent to W & L) Lexington is basically a small, peaceful town, so I hope you're used to country life.

I stop there often to spend the night on the way to visiting my family in WV, I also went to a work conference at VMI for a week. It's definitely got a small town feel to it. To be honest, it's not someplace I'd like to live but I prefer larger cities. If you like the small town feel, it's probably a nice place to settle down.

The college kids will make more than you, I know that.

Lexington itself is a neat little town, with some very good dining and interesting shops. exMrsFritz and I liked to go up there for weekends from time to time.

There are four absolutely fantastic, idylic college towns in Virginia - Charlottesville, Williamsburg, Blacksburg and Lexington - congrats on getting the opportunity to work at one.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm really looking forward to it, from all that I've read/seen it seems like a nice quiet place to live.

Yeah, my aunt and uncle live there, my uncle works for VMI and my cousin went to W&L on a lacrosse scholarship. Great town, very old time feel to it. Doesn't have the usual college town craziness which can be a good or bad thing depending on what you're looking for.

The wife and I did a B&B outside Lexington one time for a few days. I loved it, she hated it, then again she was 7 months pregnant with our first boy and prone to hate pretty much of anything. If you like small, out of the way towns this is THE place. If I could figure out a way to make a good living there I'd move to it in a heartbeat. If you need city life, stay the F away. VMI will offer it's own form of culture shock, regardless of your background (VMI and W&L are right up against each other, so you cannot avoid them).
