Madden out today?

ESPN Sportscenter just had a bit with Madden talking about the NFL and twice the announcer said that Madden was hitting a store near you today. Was the announcer just poorly informed or am I somehow missing this news?

I think you somehow missed the news that ESPN announcers are for the most part poorly informed.

Perhaps the announcer was told to drop bad info on the competition's game.

Yeah, so they get kids to demand their parents bring them to Best Buy to get the game. The game isn't there. The kid starts screaming. The parent sees ESPN NFL 2005 on the shelf (for only 20 bucks). They get that for their kid, just to shut them up.

Brilliant marketing campaign.

Esp. when the parents go "Hey, this other game is less than half the price of that other one...Timmy, you're getting this one."

Madden was on the air and he didn't correct the announcer either time. Otherwise, I like this marketing conspiracy theory

The theory I saw over at OS is that it was a canned segment that they meant to air on the actual day of release.

That makes sense. It didn't talk about anything specifically current. It felt like a canned segment.

Dola -

Actually he did talk about Ricky retiring in the segment.. that was the only semi-current news in the segment.
