Anyone buy Chaos League?

I just saw that the game was released last month, but I have not heard anyone talk about it. Has anyone bought it?

There's a thread somewhere around here about it. I think the consensus was that its a really fun game. The downside is it installs a spyware program to prevent pirating.

Have they gone with a different copy protection scheme than the one talked about here a while back? If not, there's no chance I'm getting it.

ACcording to their website they are still using Starforce and given the talk on the forums it would seem that they have little desire to change it. The current vibe seems to be you can either like it or lump it. I chose to lump it.

I'm personally going to get a copy once FM has gone to Gold Master (can't risk getting it before then ) ... the demo was cool and while I would personally prefer a more 'management' based game (surprise surprise ) I think its worth a go.

I'm aware of the ruckus over StarForce and its not a system that I'd personally advocate using, however having installed the demo and checked for ill-effects on my system I don't think it will do anything untoward (at least on my PC setup). My CDR and DVDR all appear to be working properly, although I have to admit I don't attempt to burn overlength CD's or anything clever with them.

Just think of it as buying a nice spyware program and getting a game thrown in as a bonus.

I think the problen with Starforce may be less to do with how it works at the moment (I don't doubt you have no problems with it at all Mr. Vaughan) but what it represents. If companies are allowed to simply stick in programs onto our computers at will without having the deceny to inform us of it then this is the thin end of the wedge. I would imagine that the growth of open source browsers (just like firefox which I am using right now) is partially fuelled by the inability of the bigger companies to be able to combat more intrusive elements gaining access to your computer.

Even though as a big fan of blood bowl I was very interested in buying the game it has become a matter of principle that I will not buy it. My how grand of me eh...

Marc,

It added nearly 20 seconds to my computer startup time.. and basically shut down my dvd burner.. i think if you had the experiences i had with it.. you'd probably be of my thinking..

With all the bad experiences I've heard people having with this copy protection scheme, I'm skipping it. I have enough problems screwing things up myself on my computer without downloading something that will do it for me. Since the demo has the same copy protection, I'm not even going to give the demo a try. Too bad, it sounded like it might be a neat little game.

Won't even consider it after my Starforce experiences.

Wow. I totally missed this one. I've been dying for a "Blood Bowl" type game for ages (a new one). I used to play in a "career" Blood Bowl league back in college. We had a draft and everything. It was great fun.

This Starforce thing does seem to be an issue... A mighty big one. I see they have a "Starforce uninstaller" on their site. Does this pretty much take care of things?

Works for most, but you can't play the game after Starforce is uninstalled.

Blue.. look for the Java BBowl client, there's a whole bunch of online leagues

I looked around at those a few weeks ago. Looked like fun. I may just have to install it and see where it takes me.

I really wish there was a solid "Blood Bowl" type sim. A deep managerial game with turn-based action for the actual game play (nothing too fancy needed here really). Could really be a fun dynasty type game and doesn't seem like it would be that complicated to make. Then again, what do I now about making computer games...

I used to play in the fumbbl.com league. It was great, when you had time, you fired up the chat, looked for a game, and played. They had separate divisions, and ran tournaments regularly. All games were played using the JavaBB client. The server kept track of stats for all your players, you gained skills just like in the tabletop game. Plus, at the top corner of the website, they would tell you of random records and stuff. Most games played, most casualties inflicted, most interceptions, pretty cool and immersive stuff.

Wish I had more time to kill on it.
