woman, idiot, asphyxiates daughter, calls police to confess. Daughter lives.
4-year-old Miami girl survives after mother tries to asphyxiate her
By John Holland Staff Writer August 13, 2004 Sitting across from Miami police detectives, Janice Marie Miles explained she had a good reason for trying to kill her 4-year-old daughter by wrapping a plastic bag around her head. "Ms. Miles justified her actions due to her current financial decision," police officer William Moreno wrote in a statement released Thursday. And with that, police charged Miles, 32, with attempted murder and child abuse. The mother of three initially thought she had killed her little girl, and even called 911 from a pay phone to make a confession and direct them to the girl's body, police said. But the girl, whose name was not released, survived and was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition. She is expected to make a full recovery. The nature of the crime stunned even police, who said the case began when Miles called with "disturbing information." Miami Fire-Rescue workers went to the home and found the girl in "a semi-conscious state," police said. Police then began a frantic search for Miles' two sons, ages 5 and 11, who weren't at the home in the 2700 block of Northwest 183rd Street. Miles told police she had sent the boys to their aunt's home, and they were later found unharmed. All three children are under the care of the Department of Children's Services. Miles remains jailed on the attempted murder and child abuse charges, as well as two counts of child neglect for not tending to her sons.

"Idiot" isn't quite the word I'd use to describe her.

The moral of the story, as always, is to make sure you kill the people you try to kill... I can't stress this simple idea enough.
But yes, this woman is undoubtedly an asshat for trying to kill a 4 year old, and should never get out of jail. |

When folks like that have the uncontrolable urge to kill someone.... Why can't they just kill themselves?

Throw away the key, and get those kids out of there.
This article reminds me of a 9-1-1 call transcript once listed on News of the weird. It went something like this Caller: Hello my name is ####, I live at ####, and I just killed my wife. Operator:Excuse me? Caller: I just killed her. I strangled her. ....conversation continues as emergency personel are dispatched. Caller: Oh God.(with exasperation) She's breathing again. Hold on... IIRC the woman survived Last edited by Glengoyne : 08-13-2004 at 11:57 AM. |
