Defender secondary help

Now that I actually have money to buy trainees that might have a few secondaries, Im trying to figure out which secondaries are most popular to the people purchasing defenders. Im sure this will be helpful for all defense trainers as well.

So the scenario is...
You are buying a defender that could be used in either your center back or wing back positions. Which secondary will most influence your purchase...

Edit: I should probably also add to the scenario that the defender has a skill of defense at least formidable or outstanding. I'm not sure if that makes a difference to peoples decisions or not.

I said passing but realistically it could be any of Passing, Powerful, or SP (or a combination.)

The thing with passing is that if you get defenders with good passing, you need a bunch of them or else your CA is still kinda worthless. So teams who are looking to CA will pay a hefty premium for it and other team's won't bother.

Powerful is always good but not as important because you don't need as many powerful defenders, and most teams don't emphasis pressing.

Set Pieces are something I always look at but it doesn't really affect my bidding. And from what I can tell it doesn't affect prices in general to any reasonable degree. Unless he's very high level.

It depends on which position I'm looking at.

If its Central Defender, then:

1. Defense
2. Passing
3. Playmaking
4. Stamina

If its Wingback then:

1. Defense
2. Winger
3. Passing
4. Stamina

Not many people care about stamina on defenders. I'm strange that way. I do. Since I train forwards, I don't train stamina at all, which means that I have to buy it.

Chapter 10. The Match

Powerful gains Scoring, Defending and Playmaking skill in rain and loses scoring in sun, and also get more tired in sun.

Chapter 11. Tactics

Two things can greatly increase your chances at successfully reducing the number of attacks in the game: Total defense skill of all your players (including forwards, but not the keeper) and if a player has the "Powerful" specialty, his defense skill counts as double for this purpose.

Are there any other specialty + tactic combo that doubles a primary skill?

Yes I know defense doesn't win games, but, and just hang in there with me, imagine a match with an all powerful back line, in the rain, pressing.

Could be impressive, for a div VI team anyways.

my normal line up has 2 powerful midfielders and sometimes 1 or 2 powerful defenders. i have never had a rain event happen to one of my players. but i think my pressing would be pretty high if i ever needed to use it
personally, even as a defense trainer, the powerful speciality has been useless in my matches. but i agree, it appears to have great potential.

I like some winger skills on my defenders so I can switch them around a little bit depending on form and injuries. For me some = around inad.

Stamina inad+. Powerful is a nice additive but not necessary for me.

very nice player frogman
at the end of the season, ill have a passable winger and formidable defender with a powerful speciality for sale. i should make some descent money on the guy

in the last few weeks, ive picked up 3 17 year old trainees. one with solid passing, one with solid winger, and one with powerful. ive just been trying to hit all the the secondary types to get a good average for my sales. i started this thread to find out really to see what non-defender trainers look for in a new player.

well, this poll has been pretty informative. oddly enough, it seems the highest vote was that secondaries dont affect your purchase. "none" is winning by a few votes at the moment.
i personally thought winger would be the highest with passing coming in second. they were both high in votes like i expected, but the "none" really surprises me. according to the results though, people in general prefer secondaries over none if you add up all the secondaries and compare that to the "none" votes.

so what did i learn...
1. There is always a "descent" market for players with no secondaries.
2. Passing seems just as popular as winger. So people are thinking about tactics, even if they dont regularly use them.
3. I can purchase trainees either that fit my needs or seem to be the best deal at the time. There isnt always a need to get a solid/passable secondaries since there are people out there willing to purchase players with no secondaries.

anything else anyone can see in this poll?
