The FOFC Enigma Puzzle #5
Sorry for the long delay. Why so long remains a mystery.
Here is a puzzle for you. It could be really easy, it could be really hard. I don't know, but I'll try to give nudges as needed. It is in two parts. First find the answers to the clues. Then if used properly, the answers will describe a place. That place is the new enigma password. Trumpeting Ranidae Under Eighteen Rouge Bandits Feidler Sells His Wares Noisy Snakes, for short Angry Swampers Condoms Chicken Coats Red Evenings Naval Commanders Inexperienced Greeting Web Weavers Lupus goes on a trip Wing Chain Mascot Furnace Producers Untame Kittys Lightless Evenings Frugal Fighters Property Destroyers Sad Chickens Willing Richards Rouge Bandits Central Sailor Guys Damn Constructors! Depressed Demons Not Laters Avoids a Toss Swamp Lizards Ford Horses Key Lime Prices Blade Returns Confederates in Motion

That makes more sense than Dodgers because they all look like clues to college team mascots Sad Chickens = Blue Hens?

I've got the puzzle solved, but can't figure out exactly what place is used for the password.

The answer to this one was "New Brunswick". The previous enigma should be hit in the face with a trout for not following the enigma rules!

By the way, I vote that when we hit 10 enigmas (and every 10 thereafter), we have an Enigma Reunion Tour. Everyone who has posted one reveals themself!

Prolly the fact that we are all, for the most part, honest folk. And it's a meaningless game, that gives us a little fun. And coming up with a buttload of puzzles in a row would get really damned hard, unless your name starts with Q and ends with uikSand. |

I'd also point out that if that happened (assuming that the correct answer was posted at the end), someone has the opportunity to jump up and say "Wait a minute, I tried that as the password and it didn't work". This isn't as easy to rig as Florida election results. |

And here some of us thought the whole point of the "enigma" account is that you wouldn't know who we were! For the record: 1) In the very first puzzle of the five that have been presented, the possibility was raised that Quiksand was posting in the thread of a puzzle he created to try to throw us off (or, conversely, to steer us gently in the right direction). The idea that we never find out who wrote these is a good thing. I certainly don't need the adulation, and I need the grief even less. 2) That said, when puzzle number four was solved without the solution to a few of the clues (as I kind of intended; make 'em tough and give several paths to the final answer), people wanted to know what the hell I was thinking. The problem was, I didn't control the enigma account anymore. I couldn't publicly post the answers without breaking cover, which IMO completely defeats the purpose of the anonymity. 3) I sent a PM to enigma just after I read the first request for help, but how would he know to read it? The email address for enigma is a yahoo drop box, so who's going to be able to read email and get the PM? The person who controls enigma is going to do the following: Log out from their regular account, log in under enigma, write the puzzle, and log out. They could EASILY miss the presence of a PM in their box, and if they did, then nothing I write to them anonymously will help. 4) Not everybody posts from work. I've been out of the house since the messages began to turn a little nasty in the enigma threads about me not breaking cover, so all y'all can blow me - I just got back. ![]() 5) My wife has just informed me that none of y'all can blow me. Except for Coffee Warlord. She thinks the penguin hat is kinda cute. 6) Coffee Warlord may not blow me. Last edited by Shkspr : 08-18-2004 at 08:37 PM. |

It should be the responsibility of the new enigma to post the answer to the puzzle they solved. Enigma #5 was bad. He didn't follow the rules and never posted the answer that got him the account.
