Cain's Ballroom and the Brady Theater are the places where the alt-rock bands typically play.
There's a pretty good art museum (Gilcrease). Ummmm.... there's a couple of malls there. And a minor league baseball team. You might be able to catch a University of Tulsa football game. That's about it. The only time I ever got up to Tulsa was to go get ripped at the Tulsa Press Club.

OH! I just remembered...
get on I-44 going East. About an hour northeast of Tulsa is the world's largest McDonald's. Now THAT'S entertainment. Also there are strip clubs... if you're into that sort of thing.

A lawyer I work with got sent to Tulsa on a case a few years back, and he said he couldn't believe how early everything closed. The streets were empty by 6pm. This guy isn't exactly Mr. Excitement, either, but even he was bored to tears in that town. Good luck.

Tulsa is a great place to live. (I shit you not.) But yeah it's not exactly full of touristy hotspots. There are some good bars downtown. I would also check out Cherry St. for some good food and a few other good bars. I'd check out www.visittulsa.com to find whatever you may be looking for. I grew up there, living on the east coast the last five years has made defending Tulsa's not that badness a full time job for me, and honestly, it ain't that bad. (End nostalgic delusions...)

There is the Tulsa Philharmonic and the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, both of which have some quality stuff. The shopping center of town (Malls and restaurants) is around 71st and Memorial if you're interested in that. Riverside is also a pretty nice area for leisure activities. If you like culture, there are a couple of museums (Gilcrease and Philbrook) that are actually pretty good as well. I think that covers everything. If you want to know something specific, just ask. |

Went to Tulsa last year to watch the UTEP mens hoops team spank the Golden Hurricane. My bro, sis, and I went to this 50's diner before the game to grab a bite to eat and we ordered Corona's to drink. They brought out Coroa Light's instead and gave us mugs filled with ice to drink them with.
Weird place, Tulsa...

"but Tulsa isn't a state" I had to go down to Tulsa to see it for myself. It was depressing. The river is a decent place in Tulsa to walk down. (be sure you are on the right side of it) There is a place called the rose garden or something that is very beautiful this time of year. You can always drive by the Oral Roberts campus and laugh at the strange buildings and the gigantic stone praying hands. No. Forget that. Alcohol. Alcohol will make the pain of Tulsa go away. Maybe. |

Same with Sam Adams and other less than mass market brews. I lived in Tulsa for over two years, and I can assure you there is nothing fun to do. Unless you have fun going to church. You could probably do that any day of the week, and never get to all the churches during a tourist or business trip length stay. Of the museums mentioned, I would suggest the Gilcrease, as it concentrates on western and Indian art (note: while in OK they are Indians, not Native Americans) and what they hell, you are in Oklahoma. The minor league sports teams are all fun, but the baseball team ends the week before, its out of Arena season, and the hockey team starts in October. The state fair is late September/early October. If you like to play bingo, you can many nights at the creek nation bingo. It is just south of ORU. The 40 ft high bronze praying hands statue in front of ORU is a must see, if you insist on visiting Tulsa. In a way, I joke about there being nothing fun to do (the Oktoberfest is probably the best civic festival I have ever seen) but in all seriousness, it is a very quiet town on weeknights, when you will be there. It probably is a very nice place to live - if you were born there. If not, the locals will reject you, and you will live a lonely, miserable existence. What are you doing in Tulsa for a week?
